The reply below from Box42 appears to be deliberately misleading to anybody else reading this:
“ A replacement was sent out when we were made aware of the issue and additionally I have checked our systems and your refund was processed as well.”
To clarify, this TrustPilot review was submitted at 20:31 on the 29/12/2021. The refund was not processed until this review became public, directly afterwards, at 20:52 on the 29/12/2021.
Mistakes happen, that’s life. But just own up and say sorry when you mess up. It is far better received than always deflecting blame! Sadly my experience with Box42 were numerous cock ups, and they never just fessed up to them, but rather tried to blame everyone else. I hope they can take this feedback constructively and not treat other customers like this in future.
I ordered 2 date night boxes as Christmas gifts for my sisters at the beginning of December. After a week and a half I had not received the boxes, or any indication of when they might arrive, so emailed to ask for tracking details. I was advised that they had been despatched the previous day, and should arrive within the next 48 hours. Sadly the boxes didn’t arrive so I emailed again and asked for a refund, but the response reassured me that they would turn up anytime. 2 days later, 1 box arrived and had been damaged in transit (there was a sticker on the front advising the contents were fragile, yet no protection actually put around the box, and just put into a plastic shopping bag!) I emailed again to advise of the damage, and that 1 box was missing and I asked to be refunded for the missing box.
The reply was rather deflective, and all of the blame was placed on the courier. However I was offered a 10% refund for the damaged box, and again told that the missing box was in transit and should arrive within 48 hours. Obviously it never came!
I was then offered a gift voucher to gift to the recipient of the missing box so that they could redeem it directly. I asked Box42 to email me the gift voucher, however what I received was not a gift voucher, but a picture that said “your date box is on its way!”
I was beyond irritated by this point and asked for clarity on how on earth the recipient was meant to redeem this “voucher” (that was actually just a meaningless picture!) The reply was that it was infact just a “placeholder” but when they box arrived to me, to let them know and they would cover the cost of shipping it to my sister (even though Christmas would have been and gone by then!)
I asked for a refund. Again. At which point I was told a replacement box had been sent out for me, at a cost to the company - which I was never ever told during all the previous emails. But they still didn’t refund me.
So here we are, nearly in the new year and I still haven’t received a replacement box! Or a refund!
I wish I could recommend this company, because the idea is great. But the customer service is significantly lacking, and I’d go so far as to query whether it’s lawful to not give me a refund when I’ve requested one multiple times…
Reflecting back I suspect they never processed the order correctly (and only processed the 1 box originally, instead of 2) but rather than be transparent about it, they blamed the courier, sent out the second box when they realised the mistake and that then got lost. But not my problem. Just give me my money back please!!

Great service from start to finish. Our box got damaged in the post and we were instantly offered a free express replacement. The contents were amazing at this price and kept us busy for multiple dates! Such a cool experience and ticked a lot of boxes (ha!) for what we want out of a memorable date night. Will be doing many more :)
We cannot praise box42 enough! We have had four date nights courtesy of Box 42 to date and we honestly cannot stop recommending them to friends, colleagues and family! Tuscan Pottery and Undercover agents being our favourites thus far.
With busy jobs and family life, we found that it can be really hard to plan date nights.. Now Box42 allows us to set aside quality time for each other and to either dress up or dress down and remain in the comfort of home whilst doing something new and fun together. As well as tasty snacks, artisan drinks and fun activities; we have cooked each of the menus, from the cards provided and done some of the optional activities too.
We have a regular subscription now and we really look forward to each new box! Keep up the good work Box42!
It's a lovely idea to be honest some activities in the Japanese box were a bit more complicated than the instructions allowed for so went wrong for us! We were a bit disappointed 🙈
Been receiving a Box 42 subscription for the past few months - fun and enjoyable product with great communication from the team and well packaged! I even bought my friends them for Christmas and they came all packaged together in a big box! I couldn’t tell which one was which, and the team helped me figure it out so that I could wrap them up! Great small business to support!
Absolutely loved our date night from Box42! When we first opened the box we were a bit apprehensive about the theme of fun fair, but we both absolutely loved it, even the face paints! We've recommended it to everyone we know!!
Lovely idea with thoughtful and interesting things in your box.. you get your fun things to do, drinks, snacks & also a QR code with more info & music & food ideas on there! Would definitely recommend and not bad value if you compare to going out for a date night! Entertained us for the evening!
