I have been a loyal customer of Langrick and Coe opticians in Oakham Rutland for many years, so when I noticed a display of hearing aids whilst having my annual eye test I enquired about having a hearing test.
My wife had been complaining about the volume I had the television on in the evening, so it was a sensible idea to investigate the new types of hearing aid available
In early May a made an appointment to see Elaine Clifford. She was very knowledgable and professional and carried out a thorough test of my hearing using numerous pieces of equipment.
I researched the Oticon systems and set my mind to a level of expenditure I was prepared to go to.
At the next meeting, with my wife accompanying me, the benefits and facilities of the Oticon More 1 we’re shown to outweigh the cost I had set so and I ended up choosing to most expensive version (I convinced myself this was a lifetime purchase and that I would regret it if I didn’t)
I am glad I did
The sound quality is superb and the control you have from the Oticon App is great (I use it a lot)
There is something that anyone new to hearing aids must be aware of though, as I am still struggling with it, is the amplification of your own voice, and the occlusion of your ears (try talking with your fingers in you ears and you will see what I mean)
This is not an issue when conversing with others but is a disturbance when you are reading a story to a child. Your own voice gets in the way of the intonations you would normally use.
I have had the hearing aids for a month now and often forget I have them in. I hear the birds and the traffic and no longer live in a quiet bubble.
However, When I take them out at night and pop them in their little charger unit, which looks like a rabbits ears, I am back to wondering what my wife is saying and not being able to hear again
