Great stay at the Tempest Arms

My hubby and I were celebrating our 70th birthdays must say our stay was very good from the moment we arrived reception staff great room very spacious and comfortable and well appointed. Drinks at the bar excellent great choices and lovely staff
Shame about our meal in the restaurant one of us had no complaints but my hubby had the small fish and chips which weren't the best fish needed cooking longer hence the batter being very soggy and fatty
The problem was rectified immediately with an apology and offer of a free sweet of our choice for both of us this in my opinion is the way to do business and didn't disappoint us too much
Breakfast next morning excellent with very good choices plus staff very helpful and welcoming.
Thank you

Slow service

Booked the Christmas Faye for 8 people, 4pm, on its first day (29th November). No Christmas crackers on the table- had to ask . It was an hour before food arrived. Service very slow . After 2 hours when we should have been leaving the table, the kids were served their ice cream! Very frustrating. The meals were mostly good on the Christmas Faye menu.

Ordered two main meals that were only average. When they served the main there was no cutlery we did not realise we had to go and get our own. When they took the plates did not ask whether we enjoyed it. Ordered two desserts that never arrived. Decided to leave and pay our bill there was no apology or reason given for the desserts not arriving. Very poor

I just love this place

I just love this place. I regularly stay here for work and it's simply one of the best hotels across the country. Why, there are some beautiful hotels, right? This place is the right mixture of location, cleanliness, staff, food, rooms....

It was great before but now it's been refurbished, it's even better. The food is always great, the team are welcoming and friendly and the rooms are so very relaxing and comfortable and, on top of all of that, it's very reasonably priced. So many hotels are too expensive and, frankly, very poor for what you're paying.

Tempest Arms, see you soon :-)

Beautiful place and excellent food.

Tempest Arms has recently been refurbished in side and out. Looks beautiful, very in keeping with the old building. Booked lunch for 3 people to celebrate my friend’s big birthday. Staff helpful and friendly. Food was first class ( hope the chef reads this). Presentation of the food was amazing and portions were value for money.
Puddings ,especially sticky toffee pudding was ‘ to die for’. Plan to try the meringue and raspberries next time. Couple on next table had it . Looked like a mountain, delicious 😋 😃

Well I never write bad reviews as I…

Well I never write bad reviews as I normally just get on with life but I feel I have to on this occasion. I have been visiting the Tempest Arms for a number of years and had I-known the ownership had changed I would have just kept my £460 it cost to stay and eat there . First of all I know we are all struggling with Covid and businesses especially but my anniversary was spoilt by really slow service and the fact we tried to check into our executive suite and someone was already in there now in normal circumstances this is worrying I had to wonder do any keys fit any door NO the staff had left the door unlocked for anyone to just walk in and make themselves at home . So my excitement to show my hubby our super dooper expensive room I had booked was short lived let’s sit out side while the squatters pack up and the looks we got because we wanted the place wiped down because of Covid well if looks could kill. Did we get nice bottle of cheap plonk or money off our meal or even happy anniversary NO not a thing .
I have emailed Robinson’s no response they own it apparently even spoke to new manager he laughed at the fact people were squatting in our room ?
I won’t give up though until I get a response I have to ask myself who would have been charged if the squatters had trashed the room and just left it for us to walk in and get blamed
REALLY NOT HAPPY

WE HAD GIVEN THUMBS DOWN TO THIS EATING…

WE HAD GIVEN THUMBS DOWN TO THIS EATING PLACE DUE TO MY SISTERS WELL BEHAVED DOG BEING ATTACKED BY ONE OF THEIR REGULARS AND VOWED NEVER TO GO IN AGAIN THAT WOULD BE SUMMER 2018. I NO LONGER LIVE IN THE AREA AND WAS TOLD THE PLACE HAD BEEN TAKEN OVER BY SOMEONE ELSE AND THE ORIGINAL MANAGERS WERE NO LONGER THERE, SO WHEN I CAME OVER I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY SON AND HIS PARTNER OUT FOR A MEAL. I SUGGESTED WE GIVE THE TEMPEST A TRY, WE WENT IN WITH MY FRIEND AND FOUND A TABLE THAT NEEDED CLEARING WHO EVER HAD BEEN SAT THERE HAD LEFT PLATES FULL OF UNEATEN FOOD, THEN JUST READY TO SIT DOWN AND NEXT THING ONE OF THE ORIGINAL BAR STAFF CAME UP AND SAID YOU ARE BARRED AND I REPLIED MARTIN AND VERONICA NO LONGER HAVE THIS PLACE, TO WHICH SHE NASTILY SAID THEY DO AND ARE ON HOILDAY AND IVE BEEN TOLD IF YOU COME IN TO BARR YOU, WELL HAD I KNOWN THAT THEY STILL HAD THE PLACE I WOULD NEVER HAVE SUGGESTED IT. TO BE BARRED FOR WRITING A HONEST REVIEW SAYS IT ALL. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN REALLY BECAUSE THE ENTRANCE IS SO DIRTY WITH WOOD PILED UP AND COBWEBS AND THE SAME DIRTY CARPET AND CHAIRS.WENT TO THE BULL A FEW YARDS ON THE SAME ROAD AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE, IN STAFF,FOOD AND CLEANLINESS.

This really is a gem of a place

This really is a gem of a place. Not too far off the beaten path, but still a feel of a quaint, remote North Yorks pub. We were a mixed party of 5 colleagues and friends and had booked a table for early evening. I have to say that I travel very extensively and have some memories of exceptional food in equally exceptional surroundings, but the combination here of the hospitality from our waiteress, Sue and her colleagues, the quality and presentation of the food and a really excellent wine choice which was Sue's expert recommendation, left a really indelible impression.

Fabulous evening due to a mix of good company, a crew on top of their game, as well as the uniquely Yorkshire ambience.
