Customer acts as referee between Merchant and Creditor.

I went to Maco to have my vehicle repaired after an accident. The shop posted advertisement stating; "Synchrony Bank promotion of $199 or more." Ad did not indicate the time to payoff promotion so I called Synchrony bank to inquire about Promotion terms. The agent advised the promotion terms were determined by the merchants. Spoke to sales agent at Maaco and they quoted. "Maaco does NOT determine promotion terms but Synchrony does." This is not a policy issue — it is a professional failure. Employees provide incorrect information, management takes no responsibility, and the customer pays the price. I have lost all trust in Synchrony Bank.

In November 2025

In November 2025, we used a 24-month “same as cash” plan from Synchrony Financial to purchase appliances at ABC Warehouse. While the store experience was fine, Synchrony suddenly raised our minimum payment from $34 to $175 in the fourth month, violating the advertised terms and exploiting consumers. This undisclosed, abrupt increase is predatory and misleading, showing a blatant disregard for transparency and consumer rights—practices shoppers should avoid when seeking financing.

We bought flooring through Empire Today…

We bought flooring through Empire Today and were offered a 12 month same as cash option. When we received the first bill after the install the flooring total was $16330 and Synchrony said the credit limit was only $15000 and it dinged my credit -58 points. Then there is a "pending" charge of $4192 showing the account is that much more over the limit. The bill also showed we owed a $568 payment for that month. Due to the all the problems with this account we decided to pay the account off and not have to deal with them anymore. We are refinancing our house and a check will be sent from the title company. I made a double payment and they are still saying I owe another $525 before they receive the entire $15000 and will not change the due date. So if I don't 'over pay' them they will charge me a late fee. Such a scam. DO NOT FINANCE WITH THEM THROUGH EMPIRE TODAY.

Horrible company. Interest rates are through the roof. I had a “promotional” & my balance was just about paid off & not they’ve added a shit ton of interest that seems like I’ll never pay off in my life time. They haven’t been of any help. Screw synchrony to the deepest depths of hell!!!!

The customer service is horrible

The customer service is horrible. Save your time...you are better off going to any room....banging your head on the wall a few times then calling customer service. At least with banging your head on the wall you would feel less pain then having to listen to these idiots

Untrust worthy and horrible customer service

First, they deserve 0 stars. This is by far the worst bank I have ever encountered. We had a project credit card with them. We got a promotion but missed the payment before the interest hit because I got locked out of my account. I then called the bank and a representative said if I made the principal payment, they would clear my account. When I called back to make payment they told me that I had to have made the payment the day before. The original person I talked to didn't say that and I've asked multiple times for the recording to be reviewed and sent to me as I know they are misrepresenting the conversation and trying to get me to pay an unbelievable about of interest. I have been fighting them for about 3 months and they keep saying there are no notes. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Synchrony Bank has been the worst…

Synchrony Bank has been the worst financial institution I’ve dealt with. They abruptly closed my perfectly good Lowe’s Business Credit account, which our company had maintained for over 15 years, without providing any valid reasons. The account was in good standing, autopayment was set up, payments were made, and I’ve never had any serious issues with it. Despite reaching out for clarification, sending a dispute fax with all the payment proof, I was told the account cannot be reopened, no explanation, no notice to me a a client, no resolution, just closed.

This kind of treatment shows a complete lack of regard for long-time, loyal customers. I would not recommend Synchrony Bank to anyone who values consistency, professionalism, basic customer service, or wants to keep their good-standing accounts open.

Victim of fraud

Victim of fraud - bought phone using paypal credit, seller committed insurance fraud a couple weeks after i bought it and reported it stolen to get an insurance check, reported this to the seller, seller apologized and agreed to a full refund when i sent the phone back (which I did), but because the charge had to be reversed to account for sales tax the website I bought it through instructed me to dispute the charge via Paypal Synchrony. They've rejected my dispute 3 times now even though i provided full documentation of what happened and even provided a statement from the seller who agreed to the refund. Do NOT use PayPal Credit under ANY circumstances!

Beware of the Synchrony's PayPal Cashback World MasterCard

Beware of the PayPal Cashback World MasterCard. Despite years of my impeccable payment record, PayPal routinely holds payments on the card for three weeks! This happens nearly every time I pay off the card before the end of the month — thousands of dollars are withheld from my available credit for weeks. Calling PayPal is a nightmare, dragging you through a voice menu from hell and an AI-driven idiot, and it took me forever to reach a human who told me this shouldn’t be happening. But then, the PayPal employee passes the buck, saying the card is serviced by Synchrony Bank. You get transferred to their phone line, where you face yet another voice menu from hell, only to reach an arrogant bureaucrat who smugly informs you that the “up to 15 days” posting time is buried in the fine print of the terms and conditions.

Combine this terrible experience of Synchrony Bank holding thousands of my dollars hostage with the fact that they reduced the cashback rewards after the card was already issued, and you’ve got one of the worst cards I’ve ever had. I won’t use it again, and I strongly suggest you stay far away from the PayPal Cashback World MasterCard—or any card issued by Synchrony Bank. Bad cards and even worse customer service.

Very poor experience

Very poor experience. Sad to see so many big stores partner with them. Based on my experience with calls and interactions, they are super rigid and don't care about customer experience at all.

Rewards are a bait and switch

They didn't send us any paperwork when we opened the account, then after our rewards expired they sent us a letter acknowledging the oversight but refused to put the rewards worth $100 back on the account. But...you can't redeem the points without information on the statement...which they never sent. Now, conveniently they "lose connection" or their agents "don't have access to that information" every time I call. It is a promotional bait and switch at its finest.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware! I bought two high end mattress from a mattress store. They would not discount one of the brands, but they could give you 60 days no interest through Synchrony Bank. I thought why not. Big mistake! I set up the bill pay to electronically, so no US postal involved, deliver the payment 2 days early. Somehow Synchrony didn't post the payment, and charged my a late fee. I called their automated system and it waived the late fee. However, for some reason my minimum went up, so I was short paying them. I try to set things up so I don't have to worry about monthly payments. Meanwhile in a few months I have a payment of $86 more than what I should pay. I called and complained. I'm paying the penalities and going to pay my bill 10 days early. Hopefully this works. THIS IS NOT A BANK YOU WANT TO SET THINGS UP AND NOT STAY ON TOP OF.

Synchrony Bank has a pay later option…

Synchrony Bank has a pay later option in checkout for Lowes Home Improvement. Back in November I financed two windows on separate pay later loans. Then I ordered a set of storm doors. About a week before they were set to be delivered I noticed one was the wrong size so I had to cancel the entire order. Upon making a new order the cart transaction failed after the loan was approved, and CS at Synchrony told me there's nothing they can do, it will be 28 days before the loan closes out. I won't be required to make any payments but the loan still appears active on my account. Same goes for the cancellation. Now 5 weeks later I've paid off the other two existing loans but all 4 loans appear active on my account and for credit issuing purposes. Therefore Synchrony now denies me any more pay later loans so apparently this is no longer a viable payment method for me and I cannot purchase new storm doors, at least not using Synchrony Pay Later. CS chat is uncooperative in regards to this matter and each representative gives me a different story... and apparently I'm now dropped into a black hole as nobody ever comes online when I choose connect to Live Chat. They need to take this payment method offline
until they get the issues resolved. I'm not out any money, however I was initially approved for two storm doors but because of the cancellation and the failed cart transaction now I can't get a new approval and have to put off my storm door project until I can come up with the purchase funds from another payment method. Very disappointing. PayPal Pay Later never operated like this, however that payment option is not available at Lowe's.

EXPERT synchrony user - PSA: AVOID!!!

They r violating FEDERAL LAW enacted BECAUSE OF sync's predatory lending practices. They even admitted they were doing it again. I asked them 2 do "something" and they said they needed to follow Fed law & I said yes, doing "something" IS Federal law & by not doing "something" they are violating Fed law. Did they care? OFC not!
I have decade+ experience w/ sync, they used 2 b decent & certainly ezier 2 work with. Now this is not the case, they will be DARNED SURE to catch u in their 'gotcha' trap. They will DESTROY ur credit. Apply for credit? the ding points for hard inquiry have increased w/ newer versions of FICO (pre-approval is different than actually applying which is ALWAYS hard-pull, then they give u only enuf cred to make ur purchase, maxed out card? credit-straight to the garbage can! U pay it down, does ur credit go back up in relation 2 the pts dropped? NOPE. Then depending on the brand of synch card, don't use it a while & card closed BAM credit score drops AGAIN. and this time it's on ur active record for TWO YEARS plus!
Use affirm, pay the interest, do ur best to pay off early (currently doesn't report). Use Comenity, more options coming out, USE THEM, even if u gotta pay, remember, u get what u pay for and with sync, you will pay in the end. Inform ur local business owners sync is once again engaging in predatory lending practices (they NEVER know this). Take ur business elsewhere if at all possible. Vote w/ ur dollars. Ur NOT trapped. There IS another way, it just takes diligence. Use search engines like neeva to find alternatives, keep searching somehow other than google (he who pays the most wins the displayed results). Discover is offering various loans now at less stupid rates than their competitors. Even if u have to pay a bit of interest, it beats sync who will not divvy up ur pymt properly and stiff u for thousands when ur time expires, and will do it in such a confusing way that u need to b a mathematician to figure it out. If u have more than one charge per card, u have to track your own charges and payments. I have over $40K in credit available to me with them & dealt w them for 10yrs. Plz blieve these guys suck and are criminals.

Wish I could give negative stars to…

Wish I could give negative stars to this company. The more I learn about them the more I am dumbfounded they are still in business. Horrific customer service, predatory and scammy business practices. They’ve been sued more than once for these issues and lost, which says a lot. Personally, they have given me the run around on unfair late credit card payment fees (due to issues on their end), for a customer making more than the minimum payment every month, on time/no missed payments. I hope it was worth their copy and pasted fake reply to my complaint, because they’ve lost every customer in my family and I will make it my personal mission to ensure as many people as possible do not do business with them. Do yourself a favor, read these reviews and then go make sure your store credit card isn’t with Synchrony. If it is, pay it off and cancel it immediately. You’ll thank me later.
