Stay away from using Synchrony bank.
My wife and I decided to buy new cell phones, so we went to Verizon. We were given a good price on new Apple phones, but the price was contingent upon starting a Visa charge account with Synchrony bank. We did that with the stipulation that we would get paper statements in the mail. I don’t like paperless because I don’t like having money removed from my bank accounts. In the six months since this started, I have been charged late fees twice. I write and send out payments on the same day 99% of the time. As it turned out, Synchrony processed two of my payments after the due date, assuring that a late fee would automatically be charged, not because I actually paid late, but because Synchrony processed my on time payment late. The customer service rep was able to remove the late fee, but as she reviewed my account she claimed that there was an online payment of over$900.00. That never happened. I don’t do online payments. She kept confusing our account with another account that she serviced earlier. I was then disconnected and asked to complete a survey about my reason for calling. I hung up in disgust.
This bank doesn't care about customers
This bank doesn't care about customers. You pay them and pay your bills off and the still cut you off. NEW CUSTOMERS PLEASE CANCEL YOUR CARDS.THEY DONT WRITE OR CALL TO LET YOU KNOW THEY CANCEL YOUR CARDS . THEY HAVE DID THIS TO ME THREE TIMES AND I PAID THEM OFF. THEY SUCK

I am writing to express my frustration…
I am writing to express my frustration with the quality of your customer support. Unfortunately, my recent experience has been extremely disappointing.
The service, both by phone and chat, has been among the worst I have ever had to deal with. I spent 59 minutes on the phone waiting to be assisted, only to be transferred and then have the call unexpectedly disconnected. This is unacceptable and shows a lack of efficiency and respect for the customer’s time.
Additionally, the chat support was equally frustrating. I had to wait more than 15 minutes just to receive a single response, which made the process unnecessarily slow and ineffective, they can’t help at all.
I expect a higher standard of service, especially when customers are investing their time trying to resolve an issue. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make improvements to your customer support system.
I had 2 accounts, thankfully closet now, and for sure never ever trie this company again.
If you reading this pls for your own good, don’t make deal with this company.
8K on Lowes Card - Then $110 in credit over night - No late payments
I had over 8K in credit on a Lowes card that had a great history of payments on time, rarely carried a balance and had some really large purchases. I went in to make a $1,300 purchase for some wiring and they told me my limit was $110. After calling the answer I received was they sent me a letter. I asked them to read the letter and it said nothing other than we did a review and decided to reduce your limit to $110. I'm headed to the other guy. Farther away, but not having to deal with synchrony is well worth the extra travel. I keep hearing over and over to stay away from synchrony. I never understood why until now.
Synchrony is an untrustworthy lender
Synchrony is an untrustworthy lender. They approved and opened my Walmart OnePay account only to close it less than two weeks later with no legitimate cause. Their "fraud detection" is a disaster; they rely on a glitchy biometric 3D face/ID scan that fails consistently, locking consumers out for 30-45 minutes at the register. When their tech fails, they demand physical documents via mail, forcing a 20-60 day wait. If this were a consumer's only card, they would be stranded. This is not modern banking; it is a systemic failure of service.
Punitive & Inaccurate Reporting: After they closed my account, I satisfied the $1,000 balance in full. Despite demonstrated technical ability to update my balance every 12 hours while I was spending, they now refuse to report my $0 balance, claiming a "30-day AML hold." A $1,000 domestic payment does not meet AML reporting thresholds; this is a punitive pretext used to suppress my credit score and debt-to-income ratio.
Failure to Investigate: Synchrony has ignored my CFPB complaint and willfully provided stale, inaccurate data to TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax during recent disputes. They are hiding behind automated e-OSCAR pings to avoid their legal duty under the FCRA to report accurate data.
5/1/2026 This day has been a Friday the…13th
5/1/2026 This day has been a Friday the 13th on the first. First Synchrony bank canceled my Lowes Business Account after 40+ years without a notification. When I went today to buy an item at Lowes was when I found out about the cancellation. The attendents at Lowes were very helpful, but the cutomer service at Synchronybank was dreadful. After 15 minutes of trying to achive something I was disconnected from their cus. service and I decided that if I ever had to deal with them again, shame on me. the only reason for the one star is that thesite would not let me give them a neg. 10.
Zero stars is more accurate
Zero stars would be even better to give Synchrony. They are the absolute worst in regard to everything. They have zero grace period or payment reminders. They only contact you after a payment is late and they have already decided to close your account(s). I also tried to login to pay on a payment plan I had setup with them and all of a sudden all my accounts are non-existent, with no explanation at all. I know a ton of financing options at businesses use Synchrony, but I will stay away at all costs from now on and wouldn't recommend business to them at all.
Updating my phone number was impossible
Just needed to update my phone number. Customer service sent me a link to verify my identity and I took photos of myself, uploaded my driver's license, and received a code. Was told the code was invalid. Went through the whole process again and was again told the new code was invalid. When they told me I would have to wait 10-12 business days for a letter in the mail to verify my identity, I paid the account off and just closed it. And all I wanted to do was change my phone number. Terrible customer service! Either fix your glitchy tech or offer customers a workaround that doesn't involve a two-week wait just to change their phone number. Ridiculous!
Bought furniture they promoted signing…
Bought furniture they promoted signing up for autopay. I didn’t check statements regularly and after 18 months they doubled the balance and all incurred interest over 18 months which was 34%.
These are bad lending practices and they smugly tell you on the phone that they tell you when the promotions end and never actually notify you by email or text. It’s a setup to fail personally.
Going to pay this off and never shop at Ashley furniture again or anyone who offers “Synchrony Bank”, Shady lenders.
The most stressful service
The most stressful service - whether online or by phone. I just want to make a payment, but they make it so difficult that it makes you not want to pay anymore.
if I could give it a ZERO rating, that's what I would give.
Site payment problems
Autopayment failed after set up and was consistently a problem every month which increased frustration. Late fees issued then due to failed autopayment on Synchrony's site. Experienced good customer service and closed the account after four months of failed autopayments.
if i could give no stars they would get…
if i could give no stars they would get that. been sending everything to the wrong address. now my account has been closed and i have multiple late fees on my account. my credit has been smacked and all they are trying to do is "you can apply for another card"
INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO RECEIVE…
INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO RECEIVE PAYMENT(S) as a beneficiary of multiple ira / cd accounts! My father passed away in August of ‘25 and my 2 siblings and I repeatedly filled out multiple forms that were REPEATEDLY REJECTED! -even with going through line by line WITH their bankers on multiple calls! No checks, only rejection letters to receive in snail mail! They told us we could transfer funds from bank to bank, then told us it couldn’t be done. One of the worst experiences I’ve ever gone through with 6 figures for each of us at stake! I will never do business with Synchrony! If they have your money, good luck getting it back! I promise you, it will take months and months you rarely get the same person twice when calling! I honestly & whole heartedly believe that their processes and paperwork are purposely designed to make it as difficult as possible to receive funds that belong to you. Our entire experience was ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!
Synchrony bank has taken over the Lowes…
Synchrony bank has taken over the Lowes pro accounts. All good but sent the card to the wrong address. I called, had them send a new card, received new card, went online and set up new card account and autopay. New card does not work still. Called customer service again, they said the card I have does not exist, and I do not have the card they sent... technician on the phone was not helpful or polite, said "I will send another card but It will not help so good luck." So thanks for nothing Synchrony bank, I will be paying off the card and going else where for my commercial account. I have had this card for numerous years with no issue prior to Synchrony Bank assuming.
This is the worst bank with the most…
This is the worst bank with the most stupid people working there. They handle Amazon and decided not to credit payments that I've made. It cleared my bank and still days later not credited. The excuse was my payment was too large. Who new minimum due of 30.00 is too much. Amazon needs a new bank.
They are not BBB member and charge …
They are not BBB member and charge high interest rates WHERE are the usury laws
I've been a sams club credit card…
I've been a sams club credit card holder for many years paying in total balnce every month. They ruin my ccredit because I missed a payment because they either didn't send a statement or it was lost in the mail. I called and they waived the late fee because I've never even been late. But ruined my credit even though I paid the entire amount. Plus I was declined when I went to get gas again Sam's I will now close the account permanently.
DO NOT BANK WITH SYNCRONY!!!
I completely wish I could press zero star! This bank is robbing my money & my life! I have been thru a nightmare the last 8 months. My account was hacked with Amazon. And all was sent to me and all was returned. Long story! But this bank has such poor drained customer service. They keep adding charges on over & over and only taken half back off. At one point after contacting BBB the bank straightened out everything and had a zero balance. I hadn’t used the card since it was hacked. I closed the card to discover Syncrony can do whatever they want to the card. It’s closed to anyone but them. This should be against the law. In the end they say I owe 1000.00 and it will accure fees and interest til the day I die! This is so unfair! I kept my bill paid up for my charges. Amazon doesn’t care about their customers. They just say dispute it. I have a phone recording from Syncrony admitting she sees the over charges and I should be entitled a refund if they agree with her. Apparently they didn’t agree with her. They have no idea what they’re doing! I need a lawyer! I can’t take it no more! It’s already been 8 months of nerve cracking killing me Bad customer service. Even their statements are wrong! Also I closed the card and was told the bank can continue to add on anything they want to add on. This should be against the law. The card is closed to everyone is the way it should be
Horrible bank !
Horrible bank !! I had a Lowes Credit Card always made my payments early every month and my card was closed. I also purchased a Lawnmower with the buy now pay later on a two year payment plan always paid early every month until paid off. I can no longer get credit with them for no reason. NEVER USE THIS BANK. THEY RUIN YOUR CREDIT FOR NO REASON.
