My partner took over a market retail unit after the death of her boss. We bought a SumUp solo and printer unit. Setup was easy but then we had to verify the account. That is when what can truly be described as a nightmare started.
They asked for documentation to verify the business. She supplied proof of ID, photo proof, proof of address, everything that any other company would require was given including an invoice from a supplier, hand written as they always give. She only has three suppliers, the business has been trading since 1965 using the same suppliers who don’t print invoices, and never have (it’s a market stall buying very little).
SumUp refused to accept the invoice (which is legal!) and are insisting she supplies a purchase or sales invoice, printed from an accounting system (said written invoice is not acceptable). She is not able to do this!!
They are holding nearly £1,500 all payments taken!! My partner can’t afford to pay the rent now, and SumUp are killing her business, causing severe distress.
This has been going on for nearly two months. All communication is by email. There is NO CONTACT NUMBER AND YOU CAN NOT SPEAK TO ANYONE AT ALL. The last email she received was even in Spanish!!
I was in business myself for 30 years and have never encountered such service, which can best be described as dangerous. This company are in my opinion deliberately holding back customers funds to capitalise on interest received while those funds are held. 20% of reviews are ONE STAR!!!
We will be looking at taking SumUp to court as they have not acted in accordance with anti money laundering regulations. Despite so much proof being supplied, even two rent invoices for £1260 from the county council confirming my partner as a market trader, SumUp are insisting on something she is not able to provide and she has had to stop taking card payments (for typically £6-£10).
DO NOT GO WITH SUMUP, she is being totally destroyed by them!!!

Emily (my POS sales rep and support) was absolutely incredible.
She had all the answers, told me what i'd need, how it all worked together and made the process as easy as possible.
An absolute credit to SumUp as a brand!
10/10

Today received from a no reply e-mail address from SumUp asking me to confirm my account details,
I have advised them 3 times that I am not a client but they insist on asking me for details of the non-existent account. They are obviously unable to read English or understand my e-mails. I have received 3 e-mails from an obvious scammer asking me to confirm my account details, which I don't have. These have been reported to SumUp but they keep asking for my account details by going through their system. This system requires my account details!!!
Made a complaint on both 18th & 26th April via Trustpilot but no contact made. On checking my Trustpilot review today the company says it has asked for addition info, but no such request has been made to my e-mail address nor any specific info request on the response from them on Trustpilot.
I don't think I have ever dealt with a company so badly administrated.
