About Sub Zero Technology Ltd

Written by the company

During a cold and wet scramble along the Lake Districts Helvellyn mountain in 1967, Derek Laxton hit upon inspiration for a technical range of thermal underwear.

With a trained mechanical engineer background and a lust to run his own company, in 1969 Sub Zero Technology was created. From their original Leicester Textile Mill, the Sub Zero Factor 1 range of thermal base layers was born to worldwide acclaim.

In the five decades since, Sub Zero have expanded their range to include heavy weight thermal mid layers through to insulating down jackets. Never a company to stand still, Sub Zero have adopted new manufacturing processes, such as seamless knitting technology and body mapping, to produce garments that are at the pinnacle of performance.

Sub Zero today is still family owned, with the third generation of Laxtons running the company. The factory and offices now reside in rural Leicestershire, with the workforce coming from the local communities. Sub Zeros work ethos is still true today as it was form its interception - to design and manufacture technical outdoor clothing using the finest technical textiles for the words most extreme conditions.

Dose what it says on the tin!

Bought this as a mid-lair for when running in the Peek district in the winter and for a winter ultra-marathon, tested it out in Czech Republic as the temperature is starting to drop first thing in the morning, it kept me nice and worm, good fit and comfy.

fast turnaround and great product

I've had great service from subzero- fast turnaround and very reasonable non-uk shipping costs

I've worn my Factor 2 mid layer extensively, for warmth when not very active.
Some notes:
Very comfortable. Nice feel against the skip. Elastic, unlike a microfleece.
Very warm. I feel it is much warmer than a e.g. microfleece
Over time it stretches slightly so if you are between sizes you may want to opt for the smaller size.
Some visible pilling occurred pretty soon after I started using it. Its not too pretty but it doesn't seem to effect performance so it doesn't bother me.
I wish the zip on the "Zip Turtle" version was longer

bottom line: I love these layers and wear them a lot

Very good service.

Had a couple of items from them now.
First was a 'stuff-sack' which unfortunately ripped on first use. Sent back and replaced with no quibble, even refunded me the cost of posting the item back to them.
A fast reliable service has been my experience of them so far, will continue to use them.

Hello Brian. I am glad you liked the Factor 2 One Piece Suit. These mid-layer thermals are ideal for fishing where you can be static for long periods of time. You may find them too warm at the moment but we always suggest to customers that they where the leg part when in the water and tie the arms around the waist. If you do start to get cold then you can easily slip your arms in the garment.

Brilliant!

Very friendly and so so efficient. Do not know any other specialist who has knowledge like the crew down at Sub Zero has. Amazing!
Their gear lasts years, even in extreme environments like where mine has been.
