Literally the worst experience …

Literally the worst experience dealing with this firm and I have no recourse because they don’t record calls rather conveniently. I used them for conveyancing for an equity release that had already had a mortgage offer in writing and the surveyor had completed the valuation. I phoned around a lot of solicitors as I had been let down by another solicitor at the final hurdle through no fault of their own. When I chased across the solicitor at Steele Raymond she assured me on the phone she could expedite at pace. After 7 weeks and countless failings on the solicitors part we eventually got the equity release for my 90 year old father.
I emailed all the failings, much of which could have been proved had there been call recordings. The solicitor denied receiving emails from myself and the broker. She also said she had posted important paperwork by ordinary post the “never arrived” and then told me that I had to print off paperwork and take it back to my dads to get it signed and witnessed because she’d lost it. What was I paying £1800 plus for??? To add insult to injury, I raised a complaint only for the Risk and Compliance Manager to reply that they had done nothing wrong and “ You have also asked me to listen to the phone calls that took place between you and xxx, however, we do not record phone calls and so unfortunately this is not something that I can do.” Shame that …because I can’t prove what I was promised and I can’t prove that the solicitor blatantly lied to me about what she had done. Whatever happened to customer experience? All Steele Raymond have done is closed ranks to protect their own. Us little people don’t matter. My dad was put in a terrible situation and I had to front a number of bills. We also lost our slot with the builder who was putting in alterations for my dad’s disabilities. We are now still waiting for the building work. The solicitor knew all this but they have twisted everything I said in my complaint. I will be contacting the Ombudsman but whether they will help is another thing because much of the evidence will be seen as he said/she said. My best advice to anyone thinking of using this firm…. DONT. Find a solicitors firm who record calls.

Misleading Claims and Poor Communication

I was extremely disappointed with Steele Raymond’s handling of a straightforward property sale.

Despite their advertised claim of being “exchange ready in 3 weeks,” they consistently failed to meet that standard. Communication was poor throughout—multiple parties (my solicitor and the estate agent) were left chasing responses with little to no engagement from their side.

Deadlines came and went without explanation. What should have been a simple, timely process turned into an avoidable, drawn-out ordeal.

In my experience, their marketing is misleading at best, and I would caution others to manage their expectations if considering this firm for conveyancing.

Triple charging solicitors

The firm are a capable property practice who assisted us recently with a commercial transaction.

It is a privilege for solicitors to be able to charge fees in excess £300 per hour. At this level the service on every aspect should be 5 star. Sadly this was not the case.

Steele Raymond are not capable of providing regular and easy to understand cost updates. They are however very capable of double counting. Please ensure if you decide to work with them anything quoted as a fixed cost is not subsequently charged as an extra.

We were highly recommended to SteeleRaymond Solicitors for there fast efficient service, and they certainly lived up to there name. We must congratulate Tim Higham and his secretary Louise for there friendly and efficient way that they completed the sale of our property in around five weeks. They made the whole procedure an easy proses. We can't thank them enough, and will certainly use there services again in the future.

Quick, friendly and pleasant

We needed a declaration form witnessed by another solicitor and we phoned Steele Raymond as they were local and within an hour we had the form witnessed, signed and sent off. For the short service we needed we were very pleased.
