I signed up for what I believed to be a month's subscription for $39. I was shocked to find out they had charged $468 to my credit card, a full annual membership. They then refused to issue a refund for the 11 months I did not intend to purchase, because there are no monthly subscription options. I couldn't believe this type of company could be allowed to operate. Now I see I am not alone.
Has anyone reported them to a consumer protection bureau? I would like to do so and am thinking of the following organizations. Wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on this?
- Federal Trade Commission:
- New York State Division of Consumer Protection
- econsumer.gov: a place to report international scams online

Don't sign up. They don't advise you of renewals and will just take your money. Then suggest terms and conditions you have never heard of when you approach them to cancel ahead of the renewal date. Probably illegal to do that, and I will be checking that out.

Firstly they claim the service is discounted from $59 to $39 per month. However I have seen no evidence they ever charged $59 per month.
They quote a monthly fee but it's meaningless as they only offer a 12 month subscription which must be paid in full at the time of purchase. This is different from most merchants who offer a monthly subscription but also offer a discounted annual option.
Finally, within the terms is a clause that they will automatically renew the subscription unless you tell then in writing (signed) that you wish to cancel at least 6 weeks before the end of the period.
You can't place an order unless you use a business email and declare that you are a purchasing on behalf of a business. i.e. consumer protection laws do not apply. Be very wary.

I wish I read these reviews before signing up. Expensive for what it is and customer service is unresponsive.

Disgusting company, and even worse customer service. Silently renews multi-thousand USD contract, notifies people after the fact. CS doesn't answer questions, instead prefers to send legal threats and power plays.
What's worse; the data, although plentiful, is mostly useless as its too highover and just scraped from openly available data on the web.

Garbage, greedy website. Was looking at some statistics, but after refreshing, I had to make an account with some personal details. Would not recommend, hated it.

Upon inquiring about their services, the initial email was fine. It was then the representative asked me about how big my business is and after that, I stopped receiving emails. After several attempts of reestablishing contact, I gave up.
We're a small business and it seems Statista wants to focus their attention else where.
*** After reading the other reviews on Trust Pilot, appears Statista has poor customer service and communication. I should have read those before entertaining the idea of working with Statista.

I wish I'd seen these reviews before getting involved with Statista.
I've seen Statista cited as a source over the years and wrongly assumed the company had some legitimacy as a result.
Their data and sources are kept behind a paywall. Here's me, doing some research, and none of the other sources are panning out. So I figure a subscription will be worth a go.
But once you pay, Statista says you aren't allowed to use or do anything with the data unless you pay an extra fee. So, at base you're signing up to look at some pictures - graphs, that's it.
Idiotically, behind the paywall they've provided visible links to the source data for their graph - data which is very clearly public, under Open Government License. I can see the original source raw and full, and Statista have done nothing to edit this data, compile it with other data, or put together anything unique of their own. So, they're trying to charge you publishing rights for information you can get for free.
Absolute shambles of an operation to be caught out so easily. I give them one-star rating only because, fortunately, they gave some (not all, 92%) of the money back for the subscription. That's right, they took a little cut for the trouble they took, of pasting some ONS data onto their server and making it into a simple graph.
Avoid them. Do not use them as a primary source, do not recommended them to friends or clients. Textbook digital-era cowboys.

This site is a scam and should be avoided. They charge for a whole year and even when I requested cancellation one day later, they denied my request stating that it is in their terms. The information I have found on the site has not been helpful and anything that could be is additional or requires an even higher level of subscription. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!!

God I wish I had read reviews first. I cannot believe in this day and age a software company can act so dodgy. I paid for expensive membership and within 2 hours I realised this was not for me and asked for a refund. Apparently that two hours of looking at a few graphs was worth $300 to statista so they refused! After escalating the matter and a lot of messing about I managed to get back 70% of my funds. I urge all of you looking for a refund to take it up immediately with your bank and dispute the transaction - statista is not immune to consumer rights
After several calls with several people from Statista (my account manager changed at least 3 times in my year of subscription), they agreed that the info our company is looking for is too "niche" for the platform. Yet, because we were too late in officially cancelling our very expensive and not useful subscription, Statista is now forcing us to keep on paying for an entire year. There's only basic info to be found, we still need to look for data elsewhere as Statista is not updating their stats as advertised, and there's a lack of in-depth stats/data. Customer service has been no help at all with this issue, and as one company's advice to another: we would NEVER force a customer to stay on board for an entire year, fully aware that they are unhappy with the services. This is just really bad, but apparently Statista doesn't care at all if you look at all the bad reviews here. Unforgivable!
horrible to use and maneuver around, forcing users to pay for services.
I discovered Statista online after extensive research. the site presents a monthly rate of 49Euro and quadn we click to pay, it takes the equivalent of one year's package is 588 euro, being in Canada it cost me $ 933.51 CAD and in addition, we do not still does not have access to all the statistics, you need a package of 625Euro / month to access it !! it took me more than 3 requests and two phone calls to get my refund and it's not over, they took the same amount the same day, believing it to be a correction or a guarantee as some sites do online sales web, I was passionate about 5 days and I redid the follow-up, and it was started again, several emails and two telephone calls to tell me a second time that my refund request is accepted and to reimburse me by me assuming the exchange rate, so I lose over $ 46. I do not recommend taking a subscription, exploiting open data or going to other more serious platforms.
Very disappointing what you can access after subscribing - you almost immediately hit the 'pay a lot more' button. I would not recommend this service. If you already subscribed like I did: you have a slight chance of reaching useful information by clicking on the source link, if you are lucky enough to find something interesting from an external source.
Website created to steal money from you. Instead it is easy to find out the statistics yourself. This website is definitely a waste of money. Again and again they plan to extort money from you in different ways.
I paid $468 and cannot find any useful information -except a few paragraphs that I could have gotten for free online. When I asked for a refund, I was denied. I am disappointed and truly feel that this was a waste of money because I thought I was getting so much more.
Unfortunately a 0-star rating is not possible. The only advice I would give companies is to think twice when signing a contract with Statista. Account management is a 0 and they don't value their customers, all what matters is to renew contracts without putting efforts in it and even notifying their customers. If I read all the other reviews here, it is a clear choice even for this company. Make money, no matter what. And happy customers? Who cares right? That is the kind of company Statista is.
This is fraud company, they charge for data and even after paying you don't get the data that can be used for any analysis.
All the data that you want is available in google.
I signed up for a $30.00 monthly subscription. They went ahead and charged me $498.00 for the entire year. This is wrong. Especially during a pandemic when money is very tight. They said because I viewed 2 articles I could not get any kind of refund, even for the months I have not used. They have shady business practices and are not student-friendly. File a complaint with the FTC and file a police report. I did.
I signed up for the trial period and contacted them within the first few days to cancel because I could not use the data from the site and anything that would have been of use cost. Essentially they are providing nothing more than what you can get on Google.
Despite my sending screenshots and contacting them repeatedly they continue to ignore my messages and send invoices to me.
I will now file complaints with all relevant authorities with the information that I have collected. But it is a big headache and a waste of time. Stay away.
