The rudest ‘welcome’ I have ever experienced

Firstly I experienced an immensely rude ‘greeting’ consisting of me being berated for tapping on the window and ringing the doorbell, both of which are clearly displayed as the means of gaining entry whilst the damaged glass door remains unsafe. Secondly, the man who delivered this tirade of unjustified abuse, made sure that I was kept waiting as long as he could engineer before the shop manager intervened. By anyone’s standards, his actions were small-minded and petty. I had already commented on his lack of customer service. In short, this was by some distance the rudest ‘welcome’ I have ever received from a commercial operation. It soured the whole experience, despite the warmth of the person I eventually met with for my valuation.

On my exit, I gave the original male every chance to apologise - none was forthcoming. I nevertheless thanked him for his help. I think the irony eluded him!

Very happy with Baldwins Trading Card department...

I've had a large Pokemon card collection since I was a kid, but never knew where to start with getting them valued. After walking along the Strand one day, I spotted a poster in the window of Stanley Gibbons advertising a free Pokemon card valuation. So, I got in touch and Roy promptly set up a date for me to pop in for a valuation. He was a massive help and spent time going through my collection; highlighting cards that were potentially worth being graded. He split my collection into different lots to make them easier to sell (one of these has since sold at auction for a great price!) - and payment from the auction was very prompt. Roy also kindly sent one of my cards across to the US to be PSA graded (this is usually very difficult to do on your own with long waiting lists, but Roy managed to get my card back within two months and for a great price!) - I'm very happy with the service provided and would not hesitate to recommend Baldwins trading card department for anyone looking to sell their collection!

Non existent customer service

I approached Stanley Gibbons via email to try & sell my late father's airmail & shipping collection. I sent in photos of selected items as the collection is over 1000 items, so far too much to carry in to London. I included a supporting narrative of what else was in the collection.
After 4 weeks with no response I chased for a reply. Customer Services apparently followed up, but again no response.
Customer services then suggested I 'pop in' next time i'm in London with my material. Good idea, that's definitely worth a trip on public transport with several suitcases full.
I'm assuming someone has viewed the items but couldn't be bothered to send a one line response of 'thanks but not interested'. I appreciate the large volume of items sent in, but why advertise if you're really not interested? or maybe try running a more professional & commercial operation & charge a small fee?
It's just the complete disdain with which customers are treated that is irritating, thinking my query is not even worthy of a response.
Luckily I have found a professional company who will take the collection to auction for me & valued it as worth several thousands.

Pokemon Cards!

Randomly, I went to Stanley Gibbons, the over 160-year old, world-renowned stamp merchants, to get my Pokemon cards valued! Roy was incredibly helpful and spent a good hour with me at a free valuation. He took the time to explain what he was looking for, what made the cards valuable, and how I could look online myself for more information. He also offered to get some of the more valuable cards graded for me, so that they would be worth more if I decided to sell. Very happy with the service I received!!

Christmas Present

I ordered my dad a Christmas Present from SG, I emailed the customer service team as I was concerned I may not receive the present due to the Royal Mail strikes but both Sharon & Eileen were able to answer my questions regarding this and were quick in responding, Eileen was able to provide me with the tracking number and a quick update. The item was received today and it is amazing quality.

The refurbished shop is really…

The refurbished shop is really excellent and I was able to also visit their display on the world’s rarest stamp, which was impressive.
I managed to buy some excellent Indian material which as ever carried Stanley Gibbons lifetime warranty of authenticity - needed for such difficult material.
This is a place of great quality that is always worth a visit when going up to central London.

my grandads stamps

I was given my grandads stamp collection 16 years ago. I had half the collection valued 16 years ago and was offered £230. (face value)

Today I took the entire collection into Stanley Gibbons knowing they weren't worth that much. On entering the store there was no welcoming no hello good morning nothing. The old guy just looked me up and down. The guy who valued the entire collection hardly looked at the stamps and showed zero interest in looking at the collection. even the way the guy handled the stamps was unprofessional he actually damaged some of the stamps. The guy told me the entire collection was worth £30. A very poor and dishonest valuation.

I was offered £230 for half the collection 16 years ago. Both members of staff I had contact with in the store were rude arrogant and totally unprofessional.

The best stamp dealers without a doubt

I have purchased from Stanley Gibbons on-line several times in the last couple of years. In every case the service has been excellent. Items are exactly as described/pictured, great protective packaging and sent same day for next day special delivery, free of charge. Brilliant service. Stanley Gibbons are not as cheap as some other stamp dealers, but you know exactly what you're getting from them and they are completely trustworthy.
