Beware - you can only use your email address once with Square. If you close your account and need to start a new one - to take advantage of the lower 1.3% fee for example, you can NEVER AGAIN use the same email address. There is zero help, I am only being told the same script over and over again “the email address is already in use” despite the account being closed and no longer active. Where is the support? Why can’t I use my email account again? This is the only service I have ever come across that does this.

Square has demonstrated a complete inability to support incorporated organisations.
As an incorporated not-for-profit in regional Australia, we were asked by Square to obtain and provide highly sensitive personal documents (including death certificates, IDs, powers of attorney and court orders) relating to a former staff member who left over six years ago and is now deceased. This is inappropriate and, for organisations bound by Australian privacy law, likely unlawful.
Square’s support model appears designed almost entirely for sole traders, with no understanding of staff turnover, governance, privacy obligations, or record-retention laws that apply to real organisations. When we raised these concerns, the only solution offered was “use a different email address”, rather than addressing the underlying issue.
Despite being a long-term customer and having recently spent thousands on Square hardware, we were effectively blocked from continuing to use their services unless we breached our legal obligations.
If you are an incorporated organisation, charity, or not-for-profit, proceed with extreme caution. Square is not set up to support you.
*EDIT: I have reached out to Square numerous times and they legit refuse to help. Square is only for sole-trader run businesses, no one else.

Contacted Wen from Customer Service, Tuesday 27th January 2026 10:30 AM. Wen was not very helpful. It was absolute torture dealing with her. Could not achieve a resolution. Was told to wait for an email. Took more than 90 days to resolve a dispute. The truth is the banks don't take 90 days to come to a resolution, especially when you have submitted a lot of evidence to support your case. It is Square Australia that lies to its customers and holds the money and refuses to pay. Chasing up the money is a night mare. Square will give a resolution date and then stuff you around and refuse to pay and use the banks as an excuse. Wen states that there is no time frame for a call back, which just proves the poor customer service displayed here and the delay in refund. Poor tactics are being used here and simply leaving businesses out of pocket.

Unable to verify my address due to a system error. As it was enter incorrectly I was told I could no longer use their service and my best option was to get someone else to sign up on my behalf or else go to a different provider.

I used Square for a small business and experienced a failed payment where neither I nor the customer were clearly notified at the time of sale. Goods were provided believing payment had gone through.
I later discovered the payment had failed, and Square refused to reimburse the amount. For small businesses, real-time visibility on declined payments is critical. It is the lack of transparency and professionalism from Square as a payment processing company that fails me. Also it's important to note that their fees are the highest among all other payment processing providers yet their customer service is below par.
I’ve since moved to another provider that clearly shows approved vs declined transactions. I would encourage other small businesses to carefully assess this risk before using Square.
