Spend Your Yen is an awesome company.

SYY is one of my favorite anime brands.
I found them around August of this year. I was initially skeptical of the brand, especially given that a lot of companies out there drop ship or are illegitimate, don’t truly care about their customers, and are really only in it for a check. SYY isn’t like that.
After joining their discord and getting some advice from other people and hearing their experiences with the company, I bit the bullet and ended up making my first purchase, which was a one time run “secret drop” for One Piece shirt and shorts. I knew everything was made to order, so I expected a wait, but as time went on, I was getting a bit nervous just based on how long it was taking. I’ve been burned by companies in the past, but seeing other people were getting their orders from other drops, i held out despite that one seeming to be at a standstill.
After a few weeks and an apology from the owner for the wait, as well as a $25 gift card voucher to everyone who bought the drop, I finally got my pieces and was immediately hooked. The quality of not only the art, but the garments themselves are one of a kind. It’s obvious that Mr. Yen really takes pride in what he puts out, and appreciates everyone who supports SYY.
Getting to speak with Mr. Yen first hand in their discord, being able to recommend pieces I want to see, and being able to talk and share my love for the brand with others who share my love for anime is an unreal experience for me.
There are tons of brands out there, but SYY will always stand out to me, not only as a kick ass clothing brand, but because of their awesome community and their genuine appreciation for everyone who supports them. You truly don’t find that everywhere, and they have gained a lifetime customer.

Spend Your Yen and Villains Only is Abusive and Unprofessional

Spend Your Yen and Villains Only are an absolutely horrible, unprofessional company with an inexperienced owner and absolutely zero customer service skills.

The company preys on FOMO and hype. Every clothing drop they will say "get them now, they will never come back!" but they bring back the same designs every month or two. They want you to feel like you have to buy everything urgently, or else you'll never get the chance again. Reckless and aggressive marketing. Portraying false scarcity.

In reality they are grossly overpriced with cool but not unique designs. Their $55 "heavyweight" shirts are normal Gildan cotton shirts.

Most of their giveaways are fake, and they botch half of them saying "sorry we messed up, so we're giving away even more money!" In order to enter the giveaway, you have to put an order in with a supposed chance to get it for free after the purchase is completed. There are no terms laid out for their giveaways, only that they claim to be randomly giving away 10 free orders or something.

My personal testimony comes from when I got a gift card code and they canceled my order saying I "didn't get the code the way I should have" (from a Word Search in the Discord on a game night, yes, seriously). I pushed back, saying that what they did was in bad faith because I participated in their event fair and square. In retaliation, they canceled my other outstanding orders without consent, banned me from Discord, and never responded to my emails asking for a refund for my orders and to return my past orders due to the way I was treated.

I was already skeptical about their methods, but going through such heavy retaliation provided total clarity on their abusive practices. I think anyone considering purchasing from the company should be aware as well.

The only anime clothing brand that seems to be popular that I've had to file a chargeback against. I won. That speaks for itself.

The owner (Nate) is to blame, running the company like a personal ego trip, deciding what's "fair" based on his mood. But no matter the mood he's in, he will make sure he's right and the customer is wrong.
