Read the contract! Agents are no on your side.
I was with Sparkasse for over 5 years and one year before I was going to leave Germany I asked for an increase in the policy to make sure that during the move, if anything was damaged I was going to be covered. I explained my situation to the agent and I mentioned that I was going to cancel soon. I wanted to make sure that there are no changes to my current contract. He assured me that there wasn't. Long story short. The new policy came with a clause that states that you can only cancel after 3 years. I was not able to cancel after 1 year. Quite disappointing, since I thought that the agent was on my side but I guess they are not. Be careful and read the contract!
