The actual content is AMAZING! I would give it 10 stars if I could. The app…could use some help. It’s a little glitchy and not super intuitive to navigate

This app is very informative and helps me with meal planning for my baby. I love that it gives clear ideas on what to serve and when, making feeding so much easier. The layout is simple and easy to follow—perfect for busy moms on the go!

The info re preparation and allergens in really useful but I don’t find the app very user friendly. I find it confusing and is disappointing after paying the subscription.

Interface not great, ive introduce many allergens and jt shows as if I never introduced any. The UI could be better and easier

The Solid Starts app has many great features, especially the food preparation guidelines and allergy risk descriptions. I also found the food log helpful for a time, as my child has a large amount of allergies. I liked being able to look back for their doctor and see when they had reactions. However, food logging is exceptionally cumbersome, especially if you are trying to log multiple foods at once. As my child got older and I would try to log multiple foods at a time, the app would glitch and crash so often that I gave up and only logged foods when they had a reaction. This is frustrating given the food log is a part of the paid subscription and the cost of said subscription. The internal clock of the app was not tied to my location. As a result, when logging foods, the app would sometimes attribute foods to the next day.
*This section is very specific to children with multiple food allergies, including FPIES and uncommon allergens*
Their treatment of allergies could definitely be improved. Our child was high risk for food allergies and tested positive for many allergens before ingesting them. I know Solid Starts cautions against the false positives of allergy tests and recommends oral introduction, but the severity was high enough that our doctor recommended against introduction. There is nowhere to mark that the allergen was discovered via test, so I had to mark that they ate the food, which throws off the food count and badges. I asked about this on a social media Q&A, and I received a generic message that directed to a broken link.
The guided recipes will not exclude recipes that contain a known allergen when you have marked a reaction outside of their introduction protocol. I manually discarded each recipe that contained one of my child’s allergens (many uncommon or FPIES-related, so they weren’t introduced via the app’s introduction series). Some recipes include recommended replacements, but when you mark the recipe as done, you have to go into the tracker, remove the unused ingredient, and add the substituted ingredient. There is also no way to filter recipes by your child’s specific allergens if they are outside of FPIES triggers or top 8 allergens.
Many of the food allergy introduction series recipes include common FPIES triggers served alongside the allergen, which could be confusing to parents if their child vomits. Did they react to the allergen or the FPIES trigger it was served with? Another review mentioned that you cannot see the next recipe in an allergen introduction series in order to plan, which I also found a tad annoying.
This final point is small but frustrating as a food allergy parent. During the guided recipes, if you delay or try to discard the allergen introduction series, it pops up asking if you’re sure and cautioning you against it. I completely understand the purpose, but there is also nowhere to include why you are discarding the recipe or mark that you already know your child is allergic.
I know so much work goes into creating an incredible resource like this, and I know they are committed to improving. It is just frustrating to have so many issues with such an expensive product. I truly appreciate all the work, and know there are likely app programming limitations that we as users don’t understand.

I found it quite difficult to navigate the Solid Starts interface. It was especially challenging because I started using the app after my baby had already been introduced to several foods, and adding all those products manually takes a lot of time. I’m still trying to figure everything out, and the navigation doesn’t feel very intuitive. The idea behind the app is great, but I wish the interface were more user-friendly, especially for those who join not from the very beginning of the weaning journey.

We have found Solid Starts to be a really trustworthy, well-curated resource. I have recommended to so many new parents. It doesn't feel opinionated, but very helpful and focused on helping you help yourself. Amazingly thorough library, great articles, and more

High quality contents. I find an answer to every doubt I have. The explanation about how to prepare food is great and the meal plan and the guided introduction to new foods is a great help.
Congratulations.

Very extensive and detailed infos about all relevant aspects of stating solids. Great guidance for serving methods per different age levels

I love all of the resources and materials, but they can be hard to access on the app versus on the webpage. Some of the food log pathways have extra steps that do not always make sense, i.e. you click the calendar date and then the food and then have to change the date again.

This app is THE most helpful tool now that my daughter is old enough to eat solids. In just two months she has gotten so good at eating, thanks to the help of this app! 10/10 recommend.

I was so stressed about introducing solids to my baby. There is so much information available through social media, recipes, things to do and not to do. I was overwhelmed and didn't know where to start
Solid starts has made this process so easy! App is easy to use, lots of tips, great source of information. Highly recommend for all parents whether your first or not, the app is great.

Solid starts helps guide solid introduction at each age of development, reducing stress around the experience. It has great recommendations for serving various foods, including photos of what size and shape foods should be to reduce risk of choking. There are also videos of how to prepare foods and of babies enjoying various foods. This is really helpful for knowing what to expect for my and my baby’s experience, and eases my fears around food introduction.

I love the content but the format is confusing and I get lost in the different categories trying to look for things. Ex. I couldn’t find how to introduce allergens and ended up having to search for eggs and then find a link through the description of eggs and after finishing the first allergen the app didnt then transition me to the next

Having a complete repository of foods, instructions how to prepare them, including guidelines on how to introduce foods, how to deal with difficult and life-threatening situations in one place is ideal thing for a first-time-mum. Moreover, the tracker is great and the possibility to download it any time. So grateful for this app!

Had to delete the app and reinstall it to login since I got logged out and it wouldn’t let me sign back into my account. More often then not have difficulties with the searches loading and the app shutting down randomly.
