Dispute over settled car finance account

I settled my car finance account in July 2020, and it was supposed to show settled with zero balance.
In March 2026, the account was updated showing repossession, even though it was already settled. This happened after I raised a finance claim, which suggests the update may be linked to that.
I hope the company corrects the record promptly and ensures accurate reporting.

Disgusting and Shocking Company

Disgusting and Shocking Company. The Only company I know of that wants their Monies before the Due Date on Direct Debits. Apparently if it's not there when requested you are Defaulting on Payments. Customer Service is Nothing Short of 💩💩. No Compassion Whatsoever. Please Take My Strongest Advice and Avoid This Company Like The Plague At All Costs. Shame On You SMF.

court proceedings? FCA? won't send terms.

just out of interest has anyone taken SMF to court or contacted FCA? I have asked for my contracts and terms and conditions to which they have refused to send me (apparently systems down) for how long? nearly a month? I smell bullshit ... also won't send me commissions made by brokers as there's a high chance they've preyed on the vulnerable and over-inflated interest to line their own pockets. avoid.

Absolute criminals that repeatedly break the law and the FCA code of conduct. CEO doesn't wanna know or resolve consumer issues. We will not stop until this company has been reprimanded by the official governing bodies. FCA report next, then court.

I got my car and financed with…

I got my car and financed with specialist motor finance . The car I got I never got to test drive as basically the garage was closing. Big mistake. I noticed the car had a squeaking sound on humps. Braking etc that just wouldn’t go away. Initially I was told the brakes were new and this would go away after driving a few miles. After 2 weeks this was reported to car finance and informed to speak to the garage where I got the car from to resolve this. It was a long winded road trying to get this seen to. Then garage then informed me to have it locally checked where I lived and came with a quote of the job that needed doing from national tyres. However the garage refused to have the job completed at National tyres and decided to have it now checked from their garage stating they wanted a diagnosis test. In the meantime car finance went ahead to collect the first payment without issues been resolved or looked into which shouldn’t have been done, as this made the garage overlook the issue!
The car was seen by the garage and they did not even complete a diagnostic test ! basically I was informed the squeaking sound will just be there and will get better over time and as it’was not a mechanical issue they where not going to change the brakes.

It’s been 8 months and the issues of squicking still pesists. Also it’s a 4 year old car and started noticing it has vinyl wrapped on the door frame which is now starting to peel off!
I have a car which I dislike a lot of which I am paying for annd had a very bad start with car finance. Every time I brake or go through a hump it’s squicks so loudly and all eyes are on the car! Specialist motor finance did a very bad job in trying to get this resolved they just dont care they just want to collect their money. Stay away from! I have put a photo of the vinyl's wrap now peeling off the car this was not reported to dvla !

Would give 0 stars if I could

Never missed a payment but came into financial difficulty. Thought this company were super helpful at the time allowing me to defer payments. When my financial situation improved we agreed a repayment plan over 7 months to clear arrears. I have made 4 payments as per the plan and all of a sudden they are saying they will reposses my car as I haven't stuck to the payment plan?
I have bank statements showing otherwise but they are not interested.

Reading other reviews here it seems alot of people have bad experiences with this company if youre considering them please avoid

Got made redundant on the 21st of…

Got made redundant on the 21st of November 2024 from Tata steel.
Managed to find another job on a lot lower wage so naturally i couldn’t afford to pay for the car anymore I was 2 years 11 months in to my agreement and never missed a payment .
I told them I wanted to hand the car back as I was more than 50 percent over my agreement .
They then proceeded to question me on my finances like I was being investigated by the police . Cut a long story short I signed all forms sent them back to terminate the agreement and I’ve been told I will expect a bill of a minimum of 700 pound which I would have to pay in installments bearing in mind the whole idea of giving the car back was because I could no longer afford it . if there’s any damage to the car 😂 and could possibly rise to a thousand . I’m waiting now on collection of the car and if they come back to me and tell me I have to pay xy and z for a car have already paid 9 grand off which was only worth 5 they will find themselves in one massive s*it heap . I will grow wings before I pay these people any more money.

Racists

Racists. I deeply regret working at this company. From the very beginning, it was a frustrating experience. The manager was entirely focused on her own growth and had little to no concern for the well-being or development of her team. There was no real support or encouragement — just constant pressure and unrealistic expectations.

While some team members were supportive and the company trainer (initial training) was genuinely helpful, the process trainer, Lura, was incredibly unprofessional. She was cunning and manipulative, constantly misrepresenting my work to the management. Rather than guiding or correcting mistakes constructively, she mistreated me and created a toxic work atmosphere.

It got to the point where the manager pressured me into resigning. I was mentally cornered and forced to quit, only for the manager to casually say, “Oh, sorry, you’ll have to quit,” as if it meant nothing. It was a heartless, calculated move.

If my performance was not up to the mark, the blame lies squarely on poor training. A trainer’s job is to support and guide employees — not sabotage them.

smf misleading information

this company accepts inaccurate information from scotia and tried to shut my case down scotia was
wrong told them it was the dpf blocked so i took it to
garage and it wasnt that it is an engine issue,it should have gone to a jaguar garage but they wouldnt pay for that so in the end i paid to have it checked by jaguar who confirmed it is an engine issue but smf said they were going to do nothing else so i have reported them to the fos and they are opening a case.the car is not fit for purpose and is off the road with a stretched timing chain and a knackered engine which i have been told is going to cost £13,000 to put right which the car is not worth that been going on since june 2024

Horrendous company steer clear!!!

Want me to repay over £10,000 for a car which got wrote off due to no fault of my own. It was a (pergeot 3008)2013 model. For a car that’s probably valued around £2,000. I’d be happy to pay £2,000 but absolutely no chance in getting anything else out from me. Like I say horrific company with horrendous interest avoid these rip offs!!!

You need more Debbie’s

Prior to my call with Debbie the customer service agents were not helpful and seem to lack knowledge. However, I experienced really good customer service on Friday with Debbie. She wanted to help..well that’s how I felt and she knew what she was talking about. I’ve had an issue for about a year and felt stuck then I spoke to Debbie. I feel relief. Thank you so much Debbie.
SMF WE NEED MORE DEBBIE’s the others are letting the service down.

This company are awful

This company are awful, the response to sorting the rejection of our car is useless and this week they have continued to take direct debit payments despite in writing saying they wouldn't

Worst company for finance please avoid…

Worst company for finance please avoid at all costs.

I wanted to settle my finance early, so I asked for a settlement quote. I then paid this amount and thought it was sorted. They then stated their calculation was wrong and that I owe nearly another £400. Now they are hounding me for payment. I’m very close to bringing legal action on them, their behaviour is not ethical in any way. Please do not use this company for finance.

Do not use this company under any circumstances they are absolutely disgusting
They will 100% rip you off then they will totally ignore your complaint.
The financial ombudsman wants to take a long hard look at themselves too, having any association with this company.

DO NOT us this company

DO NOT us this company.

If you want to do a voluntary termination just be prepared to have to get your car back into the condition it was when it was FIRST manufactured even if it’s 10+ years old.

HORRIBLE customer service. Everybody you speak to will give you different information. It’s as if no one communicates with each other. BIGGEST regret in life is getting my cat through these people. HELL and HORROR to deal with A V O I D !!!!
