Grading has gotten less strict
I’ve been buying from smartfonestore for years now and several phones of B-C grades, but I think their grading has become less strict now. The last phone I got of grade C/“fair” was near pristine with just some scuffs around the edges, maybe one or two minor scratches on the screen and 100% battery health, and it was similar for previous phones I got of this tier. Just got another “fair” grade of an iPhone 13 pro max but it’s in significantly worse condition than I’ve seen before so it’s a bit disappointing. This phone is covered with very visible scratches all over the screen and sides, 90% battery health, and the phone wasn’t even super well cleaned as I thought the mic was faulty at first because it sounded muffled (not sure if they ever tested this?), but turns out the bottom was just blocked with dirt. Quite gross to have to clean that out. Compared to the previous phones I’ve gotten of this grade they’ve definitely gotten worse sadly, and still quite expensive but they didn’t have any higher grades of this phone for the specs I wanted so can’t really try and exchange it either. Always quick delivery though.

In regard to the condition, we do advertise Fair as "A fully functioning device with obvious signs of use including potentially deep scratches on the screen and possible dents and chips on the body".
So it is likely the first Fair device you received and was near perfect, was one that was graded generously.
With the fair condition devices, we would advise to expect a device with moderate scratches and signs of use around the screen and body, just to avoid being disappointed. Even when there is a likely chance of the signs of use not being that significant
With the battery health, we advertise a minimum of 85% regardless of the cosmetic condition. Most manufactures such as Apple and Samsung consider anything above 80%, optimal condition. So, just like your experience with the Fair condition, it is simply luck of draw on whether you receive 100% or not.
We will on pass your feedback on regarding the speaker holes being blocked.

Happy with new phone
My wife and I have bought a few few phones from SmartFoneStore over the years.
My latest purchase a few days ago replaced the last one I got from them five years ago.
My wife bought one a year ago to replace her old one which she bought a few years ago.
On the one occasion we had to send one back as it wasn’t charging it was dealt with quickly and efficiently.
A very good and reliable company in my experience.

Got there in the end
I tried to get the offer of a first time discount struggle with that after some emailing. Finally got it sorted. Then place the order. I was kept upto date on delivery used paypal credit which was fine. Item was delivered in time well packaged. Good condition. Would definitely buy again
