Sadly, I cried for my parents when I read their policy
I cried for my parents when I discovered this policy. my parents have worked so hard as immigrants in the UK, bought their own house outright, sent their children to good schools. they thought that having a policy with SLOC would be a cushion for a short while in the event of the unfortunate. They started their policy in 1986, paying from £8.00-£15 per month. As they aged and explained that I would be the executor of estate if anything should happen, we looked through policies, this was in 2017- they were so proud that they were investing with SLOC, when i looked at the payout in the event of death the amount each £167.00 around $200.00. I cried for them in secret because that is what all their hard-earned money amounted to? Since then, My father passed away, and I am now in the process of redeeming this amount. My father passed away due to lifestyle, jobs he had to take on as an immigrant to make ends meet, never claiming any state benefits but opting for working conditions that were far from decent-£167.00 over 30 years $200.00 he paid at least £2000/ $2500 into the policy. My advice please refrain from the D Plan Design policy.

Avoid Sun Life Financial of Canada
Avoid Sun Life Financial of Canada
Sun Life Financial of Canada should be avoided. Do not trust your money with this company. After a bereavement I sent original documents to Sun Life. I received a letter from Sun Life returning the documents to me confirming copies had been taken to be kept on file. I followed up with a phone call a month later to be told the original documents had never been received and Sun Life didn’t even have a copy of their own letter on file returning the original documents to me. This is simply a ruse to delay paying out the life assurance on my husbands death. They are not a reputable organisation and I shall take this matter further with the FSC. In comparison, Reassure who are owned by Barclays are a superb company to deal with. Reassure paid out the life assurance within 5 days of submitting forms.
Poor service
Cashed in my pension which went fairly smoothly thou they did send the info pack twice (see why admin costs are high). After payment they took a DD on 1/9 and after 4 calls, each time saying being sorted and could take 10 days ect ect still no refund received. Todays call response was that it appears to be on the system for refund but could take another 5 working days to clear!!!!! It beggars belief that it can take so long to get a simple refund of a DD. Having paid my pension plan on time for years they can't manage to get a refund to me after it was taken after my plan was closed. Poor customer service
Stunning incompetence.
I had a personal pension transferred to this company on their takeover with a value of 19,473.16 in 2000 which this lot turned into the princely sum of 21,617.57 in 23 years at a time when markets were rocketing. I have no idea to what levels of incompetence they stooped to achieve such a stunning result when you could have made a lot more merely by depositing it in a building society. I am surprised they still have a licence.
Totally incompetent
After many phone calls regarding my pension you would hope they would get it right ….but absolutely useless from start to finish
For goodness sake if you get the choice DO NOT use them ever
I cannot stress enough how useless they are
The worst run company I have ever dealt with
I originally applied for access to my stepmother's policies FOUR months ago (as her lasting power of attorney). She is now in a nursing home with dementia and I need to cash in her policies for nursing home fees.
After 3 months of numerous, often fruitless, correspondence and phone calls I received on 22 /2/23 a letter stating that my LPA had been confirmed.
I then phoned asking for statements and withdrawal forms ASAP,which the rep said would be posted.
On following this up today, wondering why I had not received the forms, they said they had no records of my LPA.
When I said that I had the letter confirming their acceptance of the LPA in front of me I was asked to email a copy back to them as they had no record of writing the letter!
Interestingly on one of my many ( I have lost count of the number) phone calls, I asked why matters were taking so long. The chap on the other end said "because we are a hopelessly run company"
I had to admire his honesty.
Zero CustomerService …
Never been treated with such disregard by a Financial Institution. Requested a Cash Payment for very small pension, process started Dec2022 now March and still no further forward.Spoken to 11different operators only to repeat myself each time,They never follow up on any communications. Obviously completely oblivious to their obligations as a Financial Service to treat clients fairly, give clear communication with any system in place to log clients calls or Documentation.
This company shouldn’t be allowed to…
This company shouldn’t be allowed to trade. They are incompetent. Keep sending me around in circles I keep forwarding the right documents for a certified document paid out again for them to say we need to confirm your address my id is on my driving license with my address as well as bank statements. I suggest that Sun life of Canada get some person that knows what they’re doing and same old excuse and don’t email back. They’re eager to take your money, but not to pay back out. Been going on for several months now. Stay well a way
Total shambles..
Total shambles... told I was sent a reply to my email but never received that ... months to respond. A total joke of a service.
Been trying to get basic information…
Been trying to get basic information about them on my pension - - three months now and they have still to reply to any communications from me or my IFA. The excuse of the new system that making their reponse times slow is a lie - its been in place for at least a year. This is a dreadful company - DO NOT INVEST WITH THEM.
Truly awful customer service
I have been waiting months and endured numerous phone calls to try and get basic information on my pension. Still waiting for a "manager call back" and feedback from two separate complaints. I've resorted to a Subject Access Request under GDPR. So pleased I've moved my investments elsewhere.
Not worthy of any stars
Not worthy of any stars. Scammers robbers we’ve lost £7,400 having been missold a life insurance policy. Should have paid out £16.800 plus bonuses upon first death. It suddenly dropped to £6720 even though we have paid in more than this amount, and if we stopped payments we would loose everything. Financial ombudsman more than useless and took their side. So we’ve decided to cut our loses and stop payments. . How is this right and fair in this day and age not one person has EVER answered this question not even the ombudsman. So please beware
Shambolic
Shambolic
Just received a fourth letter stating that I had not paid my monthly premium when I could prove from my bank statements that I have and have done for over 35 years. After written correspondence that I received from SLOC after the second letter stating that there was a disjoint between HSBC and SLOC direct debit systems - I am still receiving these worrying and factually incorrect letters - If they cannot sort out an issue between their bankers and their in-house direct debit systems - you have to wonder as to how competent they at handling matters of a more complicated financial nature
What is going on with Sun Life?
What is going on with Sun Life? I have just received my third holding letter of my annual review. The policy was converted (when the original 10 year fixed policy expired) at the suggestion of Sun Life agents. It seems that for the first time in 28 years my life policy (an inheritance for my children) is no longer the £50,000 originally planned and stated for the past 27 years but a mere £6,900. The value ( if taken out) of the policy has fallen to a ridiculous £154.00.
I have been paying Sun Life £25 per month for 28 years. I have been told the next review in is on 01/ 01 /9999 - I might well be dead by then! I am getting nowhere with phone calls or letters and am feeling as if I have been miss - sold this policy or set up. I feel cheated and worried. Should I continue paying my premiums?
Move your money to another provider
If you have a pension with this company my advice would be to move it. I am in the process of trying to cash in a % and also move an amount to another provider due to their poor customer service. I would have been quite happy to remain with them but one of their customer service agents actually advised me to move my money which was a bit of a shock and their management of my account since then has been terrible. I have tried calling several times to progress things but am cut off after 30 minutes. I see from other comments on here that others have experienced the same issue so the disconnection appears to be a "thing" with them. I have emailed them and received an automatic reply saying they were experiencing tech issues due to migrating to a new system and it could be some time before I hear from them. Convenient. It has been around 5 weeks since my original contact with them. If I haven't a) received my 25% lump sum and b) my pension has been transferred to a new provider as requested then I shall be submitting a formal complaint to the Pension Ombudsman. The PO suggest you try to resolve issues with pension providers yourself and failing that, submit a complaint after 8 weeks from your initial contact. For anybody experiencing problems with SLOC, take a look at the Pension Ombudsman's website for further information and guidance.
Claim payments delay.
They sell life insurance policies. They collect the premiums, then when the life assured dies they say they have a backlog of claims due to a "new system", an increase in claims and they are currently working on claims from January 2022, it's now 25th of June 2022. A six months wait for a death claim to be settled.
Sun Life of Canada - what a shambles
What a shambles at Sunlife of Canada!
There must be thousands and thousands of customers who received the same letter I did in March 2022. Telling customers that a new system had failed to collect direct debit premiums on several occasions, in my case 4 occasions. Apparently an 'admin problem' is it not a computer program that does this? Poor admin staff, blamed again, but Sun Life are sorting it and will be contacting customers. Its nearing the end of June 2022, I'm still waiting to hear. I emailed in early May and got a standard confirmation which said I was number 74,000 (and something) to contact them, but Sun Life would respond within a set time frame. When that expired (a few weeks later) I emailed again I was now number 84,000 (and something)!!! I received an end of financial year statement which had the wrong figures regarding the premiums collected. And Sun Life of Canada now want to charge me a fee of 5% extra for the direct debit premiums they did not
collect. So they want me to pay extra for their error !! How to print money.
