The service representative was…

The service representative was friendly, encouraging, and courteous. She made sure we had the right vehicle for our needs and what to expect at pick up and drop off. She even suggested a petrol station close to drop off location to maximize our time. Very efficient and easy process. And we had a great vehicle!

Total customer focused service from booking to the return. return.he reurn process.

The car I had reserved was not returned on time so the service team stayed in communication with the garage so ascertain what would fulfill my needs. I was fully satisfied with their level of service and for that reason I always recommend Sixt to others I know when they are heading to Ireland and enjoy the many times I have chosen Sixt for my conveyance when I am driving. Upon my return the process was extremely quick, and my receipt was in my email before the shuttle had me back to the airport.

My plane arrived late

My plane arrived late. I had prepaid for days, as I needed the car just over three days, but now that I arrived late, could only use it for three. There was no refund for a prepaid vehicle, but the person at the arrivals Sixt desk went out of her way to help reduce additional cost and instead absorb these into the prepaid amount (petrol cost for instance). The car pick-up and return all were very smooth.

Hired a Renault Trafic for 9 days

Hired a Renault Trafic for 9 days. On the last day, their vehicle generated a fault and I was accused of misfuelling the vehicle. I provided a receipt for the fuel I bought, several days before, and still Sixt would not review their decision. The mechanics report listed “change spark plugs” but the engine was diesel so, not sure how that can be justified. I will never use Sixt, anywhere in the World, based off this one, horrible experience.

Extremely disappointing experience

Extremely disappointing experience. I was charged for extra days I did not use, and the company has refused to issue a reimbursement. Since returning home, I have repeatedly tried to resolve the issue, but was told, “You signed the contract at the counter, so there’s nothing we can do.”

At pickup, the representative claimed that I had to either pay a €5,000 deposit or €60 per day for insurance, despite my existing third-party and credit card coverage. Research later showed the maximum deposit for my booked vehicle should have been only €1,500.

I had already prepaid for both the rental and insurance, yet due to misleading information and pressure at the counter, I was charged an additional $476 (for five days instead of the four I used). This experience felt exploitative, particularly as I was unable to verify policies or contact customer service while abroad.

Avoid SIXT Dublin Airport

Avoid SIXT Dublin – Not Worth the Hassle

The check-in process was painfully slow, and that’s when I discovered that the “reasonably priced” rental would end up costing more than four times the quoted rate. SIXT’s insurance policy is unreasonable — you’re essentially forced to buy their expensive coverage or have a €5,000 hold placed on your credit card.

The SUV I was given was in poor condition, with dents, scratches, and even a bumper that looked bolted back on. During our four-day visit, I also found out it had expired tags (by over a year!) after getting a ticket.

The return process was just as frustrating. After dropping the SUV off at their offsite lot, we waited more than 30 minutes in the cold for the single shuttle to come back — and to make things worse, there was nowhere for customers to wait comfortably since the office was locked.

Overall, a terrible experience from start to finish. My advice: rent from another company — this one is not worth the hassle or hidden costs.

a total screw up

It has been so discouraging to deal with customer service at Sixt since I wrote my 1 star review a few weeks ago. The head of customer service reached out to me via email and asked me to go over the details with him and I got hopeful. I think a simple phone call instead of multiple multiple emails would have solved the whole situation, but we went back and forth until it became apparent to me that somehow when I thought I was renting from Sixt my contract had been switched to Discovercars when I returned my car and extended my rental period with the same car. He sent me copies of a contract with the days on it and the Sixt logo saying I did not pay for the extended coverage, I sent him a copy of a receipt with the same dates showing that with Discovercars I did have coverage. I m not sure he opened the file I sent. He wrote me back and said I had to start the whole process again with Discovercars that the case with Sixt was closed. So I am back to square 1 and spent time going back and forth with the bot on Discovercars to learn that too much time has elapsed and I cannot file a claim now.

Hidden costs, long waits, and misleading ‘upgrades’ – a rental experience you won’t forget.

I rented a car for 8 days. Although the company has a counter directly at the airport, the cars are actually stored off-site — you need to take a shuttle to get there. This important detail wasn’t mentioned anywhere during the booking process.

Upon arrival, the car (white) already had noticeable rim damage. We were offered a larger vehicle as an “upgrade” — supposedly an advantage, but in reality, it only increases the risk, especially when driving on the left side of the road. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is generosity — it’s not. Bigger cars mean higher risk, not more comfort.

If the cars are insured and the deposits are so high, why aren’t these damages repaired? On top of that, we were charged €40 for crossing into Northern Ireland without clear explanation — only later they claimed it was for “insurance.” Considering the open border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, this fee feels unreasonable. Another €100 deposit was taken for a potential trip to Dublin, even though we clearly said we weren’t going there.

We were also advised not to refuel the car ourselves because it was “cheaper” if they did it — which is absolutely false. Everyone knows “pick up full – return full” is always the fairer and cheaper option. The counter staff seemed well-trained to upsell and squeeze out extra payments wherever possible.

On a positive note, the return process was smooth — the staff there were friendly, competent, and professional. However, when we waited for the shuttle back to the terminal, we were told it would arrive in 15 minutes. After 35 minutes, the same excuse came again: “the driver is stuck in traffic.” The streets were completely empty. It was obvious they wait until the shuttle is full before leaving — straight to your face, they’ll lie instead of being honest.

Recommendation:
If they offer you an upgrade to a bigger car, think twice — the risk (especially with left-hand driving) increases, and no one’s doing you a favor. Choose a darker-colored car if possible, since scratches and damage show much more on white cars.
→ Thoroughly inspect and document the car when picking it up — rims, bumpers, roof, and interior.
→ At return, take photos of the cockpit and mileage, and make sure they show you the return report and send it immediately via email.
→ If you’re booking through Check24, double-check whether the insurance and excess coverage are handled directly by the rental company (e.g. Sixt) or if you’ll need to pay upfront and get reimbursed later through Check24. With German bureaucracy, missing receipts, and translation issues, that process can easily become a nightmare — even with legal help.

A bit more honesty and transparency would go a long way here.

Great Service

Declan at the Conrad was really helpful and professional. Would highly recommend renting a car with SIXT at the Conrad in Dublin. Really convenient service and location.
