Premium product, Luxury price tags, tragic purchase experience.
Steelcase is attempting to take away from Herman Miller's position atop the premium seating pedestal, and if you only do a side by side comparison of the products, they are doing a reasonably good job of it. What they have failed to recognize, though, is that a premium product requires a premium experience to be worth the very steep prices compared to the almost-as-good midrange products that cost 30% or less.
For a $2000 office chair, the idea that Steelcase feels the need to charge their customers $150 for assembly and delivery is absurd, considering ecommerce brands offer free shipping above $100 is most cases.
They have a "showroom" that doesn't allow you to come and trial the products without a booking, and doesn't have pickup stock available to purchase on the spot.
Their delivery partner, which they charge a significant amount for, is a generic logistics company that has no interest in providing a premium customer experience.
It took nearly 3 full weeks to get the product delivered from their warehouse in the same city as me. In a world where our postal service is capable of delivering interstate next day, this is a joke.
When the delivery finally did get scheduled 2 weeks after purchase, the product never arrived. Somehow, the most basic function of a distributor failed to be executed, and through a series of communication errors, my product was delayed a further week. Steelcase also managed to book my delivery to occur on a day where they had no staff on, so I wasn't able to get in contact with anyone. They also didn't provide me with enough information to directly contact the logistics partner and find my delivery, and it took multiple calls and departments to find out I'd been sold a product that was out of stock in the warehouse. 5 days later I found out it was not actually out of stock, and the delivery was rescheduled.
Once I got the chair, despite the $150 fee for assembly and delivery of less than 5km, some assembly was required, and I needed to dispose of the packing materials myself.
The Karman is a fabulous chair, I'm glad that Steelcase makes such fine products, equal to that of any other premium brand. Their distribution network and customer service are equal to that of the worst online stores I've ever used.
If you want to get your chair in maybe-sorta the next few weeks if you're lucky, buy through Steelcase, otherwise just stick to Herman Miller, they're just as expensive and they at least understand their customer demographic and invest in the process as well as the product. I love my chair, but based on my own experience, the excitement I had and the disappointment I had with the process and communication, I can't recommend Steelcase to anyone. Maybe get one second hand.

Good customer service
Good customer service. Timely response to questions regarding the order.
Showroom was very helpful, pick up not the best
Showroom was very helpful. Although busy they tried to accomodate for everyone there regardless of it being Boxing Day. The pick up on the other hand was below average. They very roughly loaded the unit into my car. Dragging it across the boot. Luckily it’s very sturdy but other cars may not be so lucky.
Pain in the ass
Slow dispatch.
Found the chair extremely uncomfortable. recline tension is WAY too light and lack of recline lock forces you to either lean forward in the seat or go all the way back with no in between. Seat pad was too firm and causing numbness after < 1 hour. Plastic lumbar support way too hard and digging into my back. Extremely overpriced headrest that’s badly designed and not sold separately.
Awful return policy force me to pay 300$ for return.
Stay away.

it is comfort and support very well
it is comfort and support very well. can keep me stay on work without tired for an hour. I think the angle of the preloaded 3 step back support lock angle can go more choice. 1st is upright, but i can’t find any difference between the 2nd and 3rd step.
Not too bad
1. I was told the 105 delivery fees include removal, but it’s not.
2. The seat pan is too hard, I end up buying another cushion.
Showroom appointment greatly recommended!
Showroom experience was great, got to check out the entire range to see which seat and trim worked for me the best. Plenty of time to deliberate and go through the many configurations available.

Great sales experience trying out the various chairs in store. The online shopping experience was easy and seamless. The product is outstanding (Karman) and well with the price. Delivery was quick and with a fully assembled chair could not have been easier. Highly recommended.
Very happy
Could not test out the chair so took a risk and it was a Black Friday Sale!
Outcome... very happy!
Nice experience in show room
Nice experience in show room, and staff are well trained. The only thing is show room usually open during weekday, many people is not able to visit there
Good service
Swift delivery
Quick delivery, and product picture looked almost exactly like the actual product. It’d be great if we had more off-the-rack color combinations and downloadable receipt attached to the email.
