couldn't let me order

I tried to order one and always wanted the male smartdoll but it won't let me instead it give me a random question and when i answer the question it won't let me proceed. This is the most confusing website and I thought the web is meant to be global friendly. I ordered other BJD from other website and have no issue even on preorder. pretty disappointing.

Not for everyone

I've ordered 2 dolls now from the company, both are beautiful. The poor reviews of the company appear to stem from the mindset of how more "traditional" companies are run. Culture Japan, and Danny Choo in particular has done his best to inform people of what to expect when they order a Smart Doll. This is in an attempt to prevent buyers remorse, returns, and chargebacks. First time buyers are sent an email to ensure they are human, and not bots attempting to buy out and resell the dolls at an upcharge. This practice is well documented on the website, and is presented to the buyer upon placing the order. All that said, the dolls and the company may not suit everyone's taste, and that's ok. There are plenty of sites and other dolls to choose from. I personally have nothing but respect for Mr. Choo and his company, and LOVE the dolls I've received.

Brilliant!

Haven't received her yet but the communication was perfect with Danny, his instructions had been made very clear on the articles he posted about what he disliked people to ask, you just have to read them fully. All in all, a wonderful purchase if you have the money.
Would definitely recommend.

Cancelled order

Ordered a doll. Was asked questions which I was aware of and said yes to all the questions and they cancelled my order.
Very disappointed as it was a Xmas present for my daughter.

A very toxic company

This has got to be the most toxic company on the planet right now. I had bought 3 Smart Dolls and loved them. I enjoyed posting photos and admiring others dolls. I had no idea of the nefarious undercurrent that comes along with buying these dolls. The company owner has a definite screw loose. I tried to buy something from the shop and my purchase was refused. I emailed and asked if they knew what was wrong. No replies. I had never said or did anything wrong to this company to get banned so I thought it was a mistake. I sent many emails and asked on one of the FB forums if it had happened to anyone else. And with that, I was verbally attacked and threatened through PM’s by the owners cult followers. It was very upsetting and traumatic. I screen shot all the messages in case I wanted to go to the police. I can’t even look at the dolls now. I’ve thrown them in a box out of my sight. Never, ever do business with the psycho and his followers. It’s very, very toxic. I have never seen anything like it in 40 years of doll collecting. I have went back to my first love of vintage doll collecting and I am done with anything resembling smart doll or BJD.

Mini Me Smartdoll of Artist Melody Angel

Our daughter -Melody Angel - is an Artist in the UK. She has wanted a Smartdoll for quite a few years. So unboxing this lovely treasure made her day very special indeed. She used her savings. The customer service was so personal, making sure she was happy with her order before posting, which took no time at all. Her own Mini Me at last.

The Smartdoll looks the image of our daughter, and even has its own inhaler like her. We love the freckles. And I'm glad to say my daughter embraces her freckles and does not cover them up with makeup.

The fact that Danny creates Smartdolls that you can customise to fit health problems, missing limbs, burns etc is very admirable. It proves to young girls that perfection is overrated and we must embrace who we are, as we are, and love ourselves ignoring all other media pressures. These Smartdolls prove we have brains. Yay.

The face painting on these Smartdolls are so natural. I want one for my own Japanese Knotweed Herb project.

I know Melody will be using this Smartdoll in her Art Projects. The doll is perfect for drawing the body, she bends so perfectly and is designed to the highest standard.

Melody has just become Resident Artist for an Independent Cinema Company in the UK. I would love to see some Smartdoll Animations. These Smartdolls were made for creative people.

I cannot wait to see Melody create her own character from the separate head. And read the story she is creating.

Thank you Danny and Team. These Smartdolls are more than a doll. They tell our girls it's ok to be who you are. Bravo. And thank you so much for showing other businesses how important it is to treat your staff like family. Decent wages and a happy work environment. I hope other businesses follow in Danny's shoes. I admire him greatly. ♥️

I bought my first Smart Doll and found…

I bought my first Smart Doll and found the process amazing! She arrived incredibly quickly. Danny Choo is an amazing owner and is very honest. With whatever concerns or questions I had, he was happy to respond and help. Overall, a brilliant product, company, and owner. The dolls are expensive, but if you have the money, extremely worth it as they are of amazing quality. :)

Please Be Careful

Smart Dolls, as a brand, are eye-catching, beautiful dolls that anyone would want. I myself own several, and I am fond of them! Despite this, however, I cannot in good conscience recommend purchasing a Smart Doll for one simple reason: the company's founder, Danny Choo, is a rude, capricious, and untrustworthy individual that has cultivated a culture of toxicity and fear in his customers -- and no one deserves to live under that shadow just to enjoy collecting some dolls.

Danny Choo is known for releasing the private information of his customers, including relative location data, without their knowledge or consent. Given that his primary customer base is children and their families, I take issue with this practice. Danny Choo is also known online for a history of stalking female celebrities (including chasing them down on rollerskates in public) and drawing suggestive imagery of himself with these women. Mr. Choo furthermore has a documented history of calling for public harassment of those he disagrees with online, for banning customers from his store when they contact customer support about damaged or defective goods in their order, and for interrogating new customers on why they want to purchase one of his products.

Mr. Choo's company additionally participates in the selling of 'lootbox'-style blind-boxes which suggest the buyer will receive a doll, but frequently contain goods such as bolts of fabric instead. At the price point of his company's products, and given their target demographic of young children, I find this practice to be reprehensible and I feel it encourages young people (and their parents) to gamble in the hopes of obtaining a worthwhile product.

Smart Dolls are beautifully-crafted pieces of art, and I would suggest anyone interested in them to find one on the secondhand marketplace, or to purchase through Fabric & Friends instead of dealing directly with Culture Japan -- because for all the beauty of a Smart Doll, the ugliness of the company behind them irreparably tarnishes their appeal. This is why, despite my fondness for the products, I cannot recommend them.

If you do business with Danny Choo, please be careful.

New buyers please just buy from fabric, friends and dolls to avoid getting banned if you are in the US

I criticized Danny’s dolls on a doll form, tried to order from the website, ordered a doll and socks separately because I wasn’t thinking of buying them together.

Danny sent a email asking why did I want the socks and if I had a smart doll, I told him the truth, I did not have a doll, I told him I ordered the doll and socks separately. He told me that buying the socks was a bad investment and that if I was sure I wanted them.

I told him no that I just wanted the doll, I made a mistake of writing the name of the doll on the doll form, Danny saw it, I think, because my order was canceled right after I had written the comments.

He told me that my credit card was flagged as fraud and told me to pay using bank transfer, I declined because I didn’t feel safe paying that way. I called my bank asking why didn’t the payment go through, they told me my card wasn’t flagged as fraudulent and that the payment was rejected.

I tried to email Danny after I got my money back after he refunded me and got no response, I tried to place a second order, but it got canceled. I knew I was banned and I was so furious because I didn’t even get a chance at getting a doll, I even read through his whole website which is just filled with weird rants lol.

Danny always emails customers asking why do they want the doll, accessories, clothes, etc. I think it’s just a test to see if he likes the new customers and if he doesn’t like the customers answer, they end up getting banned. He’s so strict and controlling, it’s getting harder and harder to buy a doll these days as a new customer, it’s like he doesn’t want to make money and wants to keep his loyal customers because they’ll like anything he puts out even those chaos bundles priced $600 filed with a bunch of junk.

If anyone is reading this please just buy a doll secondhand or buy from fabric, friends and dolls, I missed my chance at buying from her, so now I’m banned from her website too because Danny gives her a list of people he’s banned and she has to go along with it.

I ended up getting a doll secondhand because I still wanted a smart doll. I did criticize his dolls, I wrote on the doll form that I didn’t like the company faceups or the weathered clothes, but I didn’t know Danny couldn’t handle criticism or else I would have kept my mouth shut.

TLDR: Stay way from him and his website/store and either buy secondhand or from fabric friends and dolls, or even buy Dollfie Dream, Obitsu or Angel Philia dolls, better vinyl doll companies who don’t gatekeep new buyers and wants everyone to kiss his a**.

Love all things Smart Doll, CJ, and Danny Choo

I have 5 Smart Dolls. Each purchase has been a great experience. The dolls are beautifully made, the clothes are beautifully made. Customer service has been excellent. My daughter broke one doll’s foot and we promptly got a replacement. It’s true, you have to be careful when putting the dolls together, but that is ok with me. There are many videos where Danny shows how to put the dolls together carefully so they don’t break, and the great thing is, if you don’t like a doll that needs that kind of attention, you don’t have to buy it. Danny Choo’s personality and business model, all of it, from not over working his employees for profit, to his doll stories, and basically all his writing only add to the Smart Doll purchase enjoyment. I see that there are a few bad reviews for Smart Doll, but you only have to look up what their shipping room looks like to see that so many people (many repeat customers many times over) are very happy. I can’t wait to get my next doll.

Potential customers Beware these dolls…

Danny Choo choses his customers Beware these dolls are very expensive but customers need to know that when buying from Danny Choo he has a very bad attitude and was very rude to us, if something gos wrong you will not get your money back and he will ignore you and if you ask for a discount or about cost of shipping he will not want you as a customer furthermore he claims his dolls are well made however if they get wet the screws will rust customers should do their homework before buying from Danny further more if you do not agree with any of Dannys rules on his website he does not want you as a customer we refuse to bow down to Danny Choo no matter how cute his doll may look
