Extremely disappointed with @SelfFinancial. I’ve spent over 90 minutes now being bounced in a transfer loop by customer service over a simple $2 transaction dispute. Good low cost way to build credit. It suggests several methods to build credit and has increased my credit score. I am pleased and do recommend. People complain about customer service but I honestly have had no need to contact them. Keep it simple and there will be no need for help.
I had an issue with a service provider
I had an issue with a service provider. I unsubscribed months ago but was still being charged on my self credit card. I asked self to block the merchant but they refused and supposedly did an investigation. I was charged 4 times by the same service provider in the same day and self claimed I never unsubscribed therefore they refused to credit me and now I have to pay it back. I have screenshots showing I unsubscribed before I was charged. Honestly I’d give a negative review but I can’t. All I want is clarity on how self allowed a service to play with a client of theirs and get away with it.

The customer service is not worth having the card. I report fraud.They never investigated nor cancelled card.Email provided to obtain a new card does not work as well. When I called to report fraud I was told I was to be transferred to main customer service to be helped. After being transferred, hung up, and falsely transferred and two hours of my day off gone. I was told they can not just transfer you to customer service. Spoke with “manager” and nothing came of it but 100$ of my money being taken, card still active. Cancelling card

Excellent company. It's helped me raise my credit score for that I'm grateful. I don't like the interest with the new company. But I get it. I'm a American that has to rely on credit. My husband lost his job so I have to use credit more than I planned to. But overall happy with Self Inc.
Unacceptable and Unprofessional
Self Financial has been holding my payout from a credit builder account for over three months with absolutely no clear explanation or resolution. After having the account for months with no issues, I was suddenly told my funds are being withheld because they can’t “verify” my information.
What’s most frustrating is the complete lack of answers. Every time I contact customer service, I’m told the same vague response: “We’re conducting an investigation.” No timeline. No specifics. No accountability. Just my money sitting in limbo.
If you’re considering Self to help build credit, be warned: when it comes time to actually receive your own money, you may be met with delays, excuses, and zero transparency. Holding someone’s funds for months without answers is unacceptable and erodes all trust.
I would not recommend this company to anyone who values reliability, communication, or access to their own funds.
Just Terrible - Just Say No - Run Away
Just terrible. When you call their toll-free number you get disconnected. You cannot conduct business through the support application --- there is very little you can do through it, and it is not informative. Also, beware of a business that does not readily provide an email address. My impression is they are hiding from their customers.
They are based out of Southlake TX. I think that is somewhere around Dallas.
My bank assisted me with blocking any future debits from this company. I cannot recommend them to anyone because they are simply not reachable. Until they fix their phone system and provide an email address, I cannot take them seriously as a business interested in helping consumers, and I am not sure why anyone else would. Forget about what they may have been before because this is what they are like today. Run away. Don't go near them.
