Don't waste your time with it, unless you want to try a paid version. For free you will get a poor interface and terrible resolution pictures.

The new lite version is relatively new, and you are correct, we will work on adding cancellation to the mobile version, 90%+ of our users use desktop/tablet.

Not only do we offer a 14 day trial, but we also allow for full refund on request 7 days after first charge or charge after renewal.

For over 15 years we have allowed people to use our service for Free. However, if you are looking to download high res imagery, you will need to upgrade. You can even get a poster size google imagery.

Fortunately, we now have a 21-day pass to get high res imagery.

Sorry you did not find the free version satisfactory.

Easy way to map all your hikes

This is probably the easiest mapping website I have used. Over the last few years I have been using it to plan and log walks, bike rides and footpaths. Now I know where I have been without having to remember from years ago, every green bush and rock and overgrown turning through a field! I can revisit obscure trails or make sure I find a new route that I have never visited.
It's easy to use, especially on the laptop, and the account can then be synced through a browser to my mobile as an enhancement to paper mapping. The mapping tools are intuitive and allow you to map on your first try.
For me, part of the pleasure of walking is now planning the route, then mapping it afterwards in relation to other routes.

Great plotting tool

I find scribble maps superb for my needs. We travel semi permanently and I need to plot routes and points of interest. Easy to use and free. I'm sure there are providers out there with higher spec products but I want easy and quick and no subscription cost. I recommend you try.

Great tool for maintenance business

Great tool for maintenance business! Very useful for clear property boundaries and service areas for all team members in the field. Also good for customers to proof and ok service areas. I really wish it had auto save!! Nothing is worse than creating some work and forgetting to save it, because every other tool we use has auto save, then it's gone! In this day and age you would think that auto save as you work would be standard. I would go to 5 stars if Scribble can make that happen ;) Thanks,

Hey Doug, thanks for the review! when you save the map for the first time, there is an "auto-save" checkbox. If you select that and then it hit save, it will start auto-saving and auto-save will fire roughly every 5 minutes or so (you should see a little notice pop-up that it has saved. We do recommend that when leaving the site, if you see the unsaved changes prompt, make sure you save again before leaving.

Excellent, albeit a niche product for annotating maps and routes

I was looking for a way to have a small team of volunteers distribute flyers in our local town. A predecessor had photocopied a rather out of date street map and used highlighter pens to show the roads each volunteer was to distribute to. Scribble maps provided a great way to achieve the same aim, with endless colour options and smart street following (à la google maps when showing a route from A to B) to highlight individual streets. The range of options vastly exceeded my requirements – highlighting streets and overlaying text labels. Although I managed to achieve all I needed within the trial period, I voluntarily paid for one month's licenced use, because it is so useful and merits support. Even though that month is long gone, I can still access my account and the maps I created a couple of years ago.
I searched around for other options on the Internet and found nothing comparable. Highly recommended if this functionality is something you need. The only thing not offered which would have been useful to me, but I suspect would be a costly addition because of Post Office data monopoly, would be to have up to date information about the number of residences in each street – ideally a number beside the cursor that increased as each street or part of street was highlighted!

"Sorry we have no imagery here" is from the underlying provider such as google, the API is not related to our consumer product. We don't provide the underlying data only drawing tools.

Carolina has been AWESOME to work with. This map is for our retail merchants association, The Shop of South Hill. We are using this map as an interactive map for our customers, which can visit direct links to our businesses right from the map.
We are excited about the increased traffic and business this map has provided our members!

Not For School!

I don't like this website. I have to do a Lewis and Clark expedition project on it, and I have no clue how to, for example, find the Platte River. It's not necessarily Scribbles' fault, but my experience with it was very frustrating. That's how it tends to be when you try to map an 1800s route on a modern day map. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because Scribble Maps isn't entirely responsible for my frustration. Mostly, but not entirely. If you too are doing this for school, good luck. It took me an hour to put down one marker.

If you click the get help button we respond to all requests for help, even free members (including students). We have a lot of schools that use us and one of the reasons for this because we are one of the few mapping services that can be used for free and offer free support.

While we won't do your assignment for you, we can definitely help you with using the program.

Huge potential, on its way to greatness.

It needs a lot, here and there. Little nagging stuff. But once you get around some of the bugs and stuff, it's actually an incredibly useful tool.

The only thing I would beg for in the free version (though, it's making me think of upgrading, sooo...) is the layer management panel! It's killer to not be able to edit your placed markers.

Thanks and sorry about the previously harsher review -- it was my own fault for not understanding some of the limitations properly!

Also, the team behind this is lightning-fast with their community engagement. That's always worth a couple stars, IMO!

We are actually re-working our entire rendering engine to phase out the tiling. We are aware the image overlay functionality is not optimal, we haven't focused on it much because we have thousands of users every day and a lot of features and the image overlay feature is actually one of our least used, although it is used quite a lot. We actually aren't a big company so we have to be really selective about the things we can focus on at any given time, we apologize that zooming of overlays isn't the best right now.

I invite you to try out the program more and all the other features instead of grading our whole product which we have worked on for years by a singular problem you have encountered, and hopefully when we get the issue with image overlays resolved you will hopefully re visit your review. If you encounter any other bugs, let us know, we are very receptive and go out of our way to fix things as we can.

For those reading comments, we go out of our way to respond to everyone and try to fix issues as quickly as possible. We are not a massive company and we really care about our product and we ultimately fix all bugs and issues.

I love the idea but was frustrated with some of the restrictions.

I liked the program for what it had to offer. I was frustrated with not being able to move the legend to a different size or space when printing.

Thanks for the feedback, we are aware of the restrictions with legend. We only recently added the legend control, we are a small company so we can't implement every feature immediately.

Usually what we recommend if you really need flexibility for a legend is to create a separate image and then use image overlay. Alternatively you can also use the text label tool.

Excellent access and service

I have had nothing but enjoyment with this powerful tool. On the road access is vital and I'm just a novice with it. I look forward to learning more about its capability and implementing it more into my day to day operations.

Too many bugs

The idea of ScribbleMaps is very good, but the implementation is so buggy that it is unusable. The first map I tried to create, after adding five or six flight paths, refused to add any more, dragging the line to a random place on the map, having nothing to do with the position of the cursor. I may try it again if the bugs are ironed out.

We usually can fix bugs within a few days if they are reported to us. I am not sure when you did this but we actually fixed some bugs with flight line, did you try refreshing the app? If you continue to have the problem send me a note on how to replicate the issue and we can resolve it.

I like this app so far

I needed an app like this to identify households in a nieghborhood for nieghbor hood watch and emergency response. So far it has been great.
Still learning how to use it.
