Our airline cancelled our tickets from Berlin to the Middle East and did not offer alternative flights. We found and paid for our own alternative flights, but the airline then refused to reimburse the alternative fare despite being bound to do so by their Passenger Rights Charter. After four months of back-and-forth with Lufthansa on an EU 261 claim — each response advancing a different (and contradictory) legal basis for refusal — I filed with SRUV. The case number was assigned within two weeks of filing, exactly as their confirmation letter said it would be. The process was entirely documentary, free of charge, and the communication from the team (in English) was clear and prompt. After I filed with SRUV, Lufthansa finally offered their first financial settlement of €50 as a 'goodwill payment' against a €600 claim. After I rejected that offer, Lufthansa acknowledged the full €600 within ten days rather than have SRUV issue a written legal assessment.
