Faulty Heat and Smoke Detector

We had some issues with our smoke and heat detectors that were really well managed by Ry Group!

From my inital enquiry, to the work being carried out, and the final payment everything was clearly communicated and efficient.

I really appreciated being told in advance the hourly rate, then the contractor confirming the anticipated parts costs in advance. It meant there were no hidden costs!

Furthermore, the electrician, Mark Davies was super friendly and helpful. He explained everything that he found and what needed doing. Very quick and tidy work which I greatly appreciated. I will definitely reach out to the Ry Group for any future electrical work we need.

Avoid avoid avoid!

This has been the worst experience I've ever had. I clearly explained the plumbing job in advance and even provided photos. An appointment was scheduled, and the plumber showed up only to spend less than 10 minutes telling me the job couldn't be done. To my shock, I later received an invoice charging me for a full hour of labour—despite no work being carried out and no prior mention of any call-out fee. Even worse, they charged my card without my consent two months later. Completely unacceptable. Avoid at all costs!

Update: Despite having received clear confirmation of my rightful entitlement to a refund, a confirmation that was only obtained after numerous emails and phone calls, I was contacted weeks later by a company director who attempted to renege on this agreement and condition the refund on the removal of my legitimate reviews. This is an appalling and unethical attempt to suppress honest feedback. Review platforms serve a critical purpose in protecting consumers and promoting accountability, attempting to manipulate them in this manner is wholly unacceptable and deeply concerning.

Update: A third party has now intervened in the dispute, and I have successfully received a refund. My recommendation remains unchanged: I strongly advise avoiding this company entirely.

Dear Mohamed,

Whilst I appreciate there were aspects we could have done better in terms of addressing your queries on the visit once we had attended the property initially (customer service wise), as per my internal complaint response . Your review fails to fairly include all aspects to give a fair reflection of events and I do feel you were offered the credit on the visit straight away by our team and later on a full refund (although technically/workmanship wise we hadn't done anything incorrectly so were not obliged to) we were willing to do this - we simply asked you to ensure you review was a fair reflection. As we did travel to you, offer you a solution on site spending 25 minutes,

Regarding the douche fitting you asked us to install — we couldnt fit this in the initial anticipated time via photos because the part had European fittings, the installation turned out to be far more complex. You then chose not to proceed with the works due to the increased cost and required parts — not because the job was unachievable. We made you aware it was going to need european fittings and more pipework adjustment (before starting the works). As we had never been to your property and you supplied the part - we are limited to what unforeseens can be avoided - and made sure we advised before starting works.

You mentioned you had sent in photos beforehand and felt we should have known the part would require additional work. However, while our office team has a general technical understanding, it's the engineer attending the site who serves as the technical expert. In this case, even with the photos, there was nothing that clearly indicated the fittings were European or that the job would require significant pipe alterations. We always aim to work with reasonable care, but there are limitations when quoting from images alone.

As a company, when we are not supplying materials (and therefore not making any margin on the parts), and we have not been to site in advance to assess feasibility, we cannot be held responsible for time and call-out costs if works turn out not to be viable. That said, we do understand your frustration about being charged when work wasn't completed, which is why Alfie immediately offered to credit the cost of the visit towards any future works which at the time you said you wanted to find a compatible part and book us back. The idea was to help you source a more suitable part with minimal additional adaptation required, meaning you'd pay no extra and still achieve your desired outcome — while allowing us to eventually carry out the job.

Alfie spent considerable time over a number of weeks searching for an alternative part — which he only managed to find by chance, through another client with a similar requirement. This part is not commonly available and required significant admin time to source.

Our engineers visit still cost us time, resources, and travel, and he also spent approximately 25 minutes onsite assessing the situation. You then never went ahead with the other works. We also spent alot of time finding you a suitable less labour intensive replacement which you never went ahead with. Despite this, the credit gesture was offered in good faith. As a business, we must have terms in place to protect us from the many unpredictable variables in our industry — otherwise, we would frequently absorb costs for circumstances beyond our control. That said, we always aim to offer our customers a fair and balanced solution wherever possible at our discretion.

As it stand you have not paid for our time or visit. Whilst we feel we acted appropriately for the visit and works and offered you options before you raised your concern. We have taken on feedback customer service wise on the time frames to respond to this once raised.

Toilet repair…

We needed some repairs to an upstairs toilet which had come away from its mounting. It took Ry Group about 5-6 weeks to complete the job, and involving 4 different people. A similar job had been done previously by a single individual in less than 2 days. We were not impressed.

Dear Peter,

Further for to our internal complaint review - We appreciated the fact the making good appointment took a while to get back in and we did send the wrong operative to one of the making good appointments which we apologised for the inconvenience. Your actual toilet works was all done in total for one charged day and in good time - we never charged you for any of the making good works due to the time delays and sending the wrong person for one out of a gesture of good will. So whilst in general we appreciate you maybe would have rather a smoother experience and paid more - you were only charged 1 days labour for a job that took us two and by your own account know this is accurate as you had the works done prior. Your toilet was also left working after our initial visit - meaning other than decorative you had no issues withinconvenience in that sense. Sometimes we can't always get it perfect as a business - especially one in an industry with so many variables but where we have not got it right we aim to put it right. But it seems for you on this occasion although we did not charge on the part of the works you had time delay on - you still feel only a 1 star is valid.

We have learnt from the admin errors which lead to time delay and hope this not to occur again

Highly recommended

We had an insurance claim for escape of water and due to incompetence by the insurance company and their original sub contractors they had to send in RY group to sort things for us. They re-routed our plumbing and removed our original flooring and were so good when we got the insurance pay out for the remainder of work we used RY group to come and fix the floor (previous contractor dug a hole in the concrete trying and failing to find the leak. After they fixed the floor and our kitchen island was returned by the insurance company they had to go to RY group again to install it because their original subcontractor was unable to do it. In all we probably had about 5 or 6 of the Ry team in at some point working on our kitchen and they were all clearly knowledgeable and also kept us informed and included us in all decisions helping understand the pros and cons of what was being done. We will definitely be using them again if we need work done.

Appalling

Appalling. My OAP parents experienced an issue with a breaker tripping to their garden shed and garage. They had a RyGroup ‘electrician’ come out, unplug a few things saying ‘it could be this, it could be that’. Claimed he tested the cable running down the garden and it was all good and couldn’t diagnose the fault. Said they might need a new consumer unit… which would cost over £1000 to do, and could need an IEC test, which could result in a bill of even more thousands. Charged them £180 for the pleasure of this, £99 an hour labour and I’m assuming the rest for sitting in his van out the front writing his report. On finding this out I did a couple of checks myself, within 30 minutes diagnosed the section of cable between the shed and garage is faulty.
How a so called electrician couldn’t figure this out is beyond me. Some might even see this as him trying to take advantage of elderly customers.

Hi Stuart,

Im very sorry to only just hear of your negative experience which we were not aware of until now. We would of been more than happy to look into it with Mark find out exactly what he tested checked all of his timings and if needed worked with you to return and resolve or look into the invoice.

I have called straight away to look into this for your parents but they said best to speak to you whom we dont hold details for. I would love to get the exact information from yourself to do so - as we really do not want anyone to have this experience but without being given the chance to look into anything its very diffucult.

Thank-You

Terrible admin

Ry Group initially came out for an assessment and initial work which was well carried out. I have no issues with the electricians. I wanted to book them again to carry out the remaining necessary work and this has been a constant chasing of emails and calls and ultimately led to nowhere other than receiving multiple emails hounding me for money when the team refuse to send me the full list of work.

Avoid - will take your money and run

Initially, our boiler stopped working as there was a leak that meant our fuse box was triggered and shut off power to 50% of the house, so we asked the Ry Group to inspect the issue and then install a new boiler, which worked fine. Then our underfloor heating stopped working so I went back to them thinking they could fix this issue too. After 2 diagnostic visits - each costing about £200 we then had an engineer visit who was essentially using trial and error to see what was wrong. Trusting his judgement he kept suggesting we replace different parts, which we did. Then we'd get a different engineer who would recommend different solutions, all at a cost. We have now racked up about £5000 in costs and the issue still hasn't been fixed. If I was being cynical, it's as if they've used this approach intentionally to bring in as much money as possible as they've created work and still not fixed the issue. Even though we had spent lots of money, they didn't seem interested in helping us unless we paid the full cost (or near to) for an engineer to 'inspect' the problem and fix any issues each time. As of today, we still have leaks in the boiler room, and our fuse box has been triggered again so have lost power to 50% of the house. If they don't have the expertise then I wish they said rather than use a trial an error approach, which is unethical. I feel stupid to have been so trusting and got myself into this situation, which is why I'm leaving this review to warn others.

Terrible service

Terrible service. Booked an electrician on two separate occasions, they cancelled the appointment last minute on the afternoon expected. It would nice to have been notified sooner but I believe they sub-contract the work, they do not use their own staff.
Use at your peril.
