It's been an amazing couple of years that we've had our allotment patch with Roots at Meadow Hill. Before we thought we couldn't grow anything, and now we happily harvest and eat our own delicio... See more

The whole concept of Roots Allotments…
The whole concept of Roots Allotments has been so well thought out. And just what we need in today's world. Somewhere restful and peaceful to be able to get back to working with nature. I got my patch in Durham when the allotment site opened this year in August and it's been such a positive experience. Catherine our patch manager is always helpful and so knowledgeable. I could not recommend enough how great it's been in only 2 months. I've learnt so much about growing my own veg. Thanks to Ed for having the idea and starting off the company too.
Newbottle Fields!
We have a plot at Newbottle Fields, Durham and starting growing with a great community has been the best thing we have done this year! The people, the support, the site, the workshops, the plot manager have been brilliant!
My happy place
Best thing I done love it I have no negative things to say about the company staff are so friendly and helpful growing veg and finding peace here at worthing
They aren’t actually allotments
They aren’t actually allotments. You are paying an extortionate amount for what is essentially a raised bed in a field. Some of the “mini plots” are £10 a month for a 3mx4m patch.
Waiting lists for council plots are long, yes, but is this really the answer?
Nothing but good vibes
Nothing but good vibes. Patch Manager Dan is friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable. He instantly made us feel at home in our new happy place and is always on-hand for support. The induction was superb. The team make sure you have everything you need to get growing, and there's always opportunities to learn more through courses and events. Community is a real focus at Roots, and you really feel that. We're less than a month in and we already feel like part of the Roots family. I would highly recommend to anyone, whether you're a novice or expert gardener. It's an absolute joy to visit our patch - such a wholesome experience - and we are so looking forward to our bright future with Roots - doing good things with good people! Thank you Roots, 10/10.

Roots are an excellent idea
Roots are an excellent idea. Especially if you are starting out on your growing journey.
I was in a waiting list for a local allotment . It has now been 3 years and no allotment.
I am experienced at growing. (Learnt a lot of grandad and dad). But there is always more you can learn. The plot managers are great sources of knowledge. Also the videos you have access to when a member are invaluable.
The equipment, plug plants and seeds are excellent too.
Only got my Roots allotment last week
Only got my Roots allotment last week, but loving it already. Such a friendly community for this newly opened site. Thank you to all involved at Roots.
Amazing Community & Great for beginner growers!
I joined Roots - Tucker's Meadow, Bath in February 2024 on a whim for a year, to add some outdoors/nature to my life and escape from my desk-based work. I have LOVED every second. It is so much more than an allotment, it's a community that encourages upskilling through free in person and online workshops, to help promote sustainablility. I've especially loved the yoga sessions held at the allotment, which has provided the opportunity to meet new people and stretch out the muscles from allotment-ing the day before. By having shared equipment on-site, it allows people who are brand new to gardening a head start. Would HIGHLY recommend. Thanks Roots for all the joy you have brought me and my friends throughout the year!
Charmless, expensive, industrial style plots
Charmless, expensive plots. Subscription service so avoid. They also don’t allow sheds. Out of town so you’ll need a car - eco credentials don’t stand up. Locals also not impressed with their business model.
Love roots
Love roots! Never grown anything before and over the last year have been so grateful to learn in the most supportive community with lots of tools and materials provided. Our patch manager Will at Bowshaw Views is lovely and always happy to help. There are also regular events which is a real bonus!
Roots is brilliant!
Have been a member at Roots allotments Leigh Woods Meadows since it opened a year and a bit ago. I absolutely love my plot and the Roots set up and ethos. It makes it possible for groups of people otherwise excluded, by circumstances, from growing their own food: flat dwellers with little to no outside space and limited indoor space to store tools as well as for example folks needing to rely on cycle or public transport to get around - hoes and rakes not a great safety feature on two wheels ;)
It's great to be supplied with all you need to grow from tools down to the seeds and plug plants.
The growing guides on the Roots platform are a great help too
But perhaps even more valuable than all the above is the lovely feel of the place: the glorious burst of plants and wildlife that meets you on arrival and the warm and friendly folks with whom you who share the place. ❤️
Bowshaw Dronfield…
I've been a member of Bowshaw Dronfield since September 2024. I've learnt so much and continue to do so through all the online videos etc included in the reasonable monthly fee. Lots of different workshops, yoga , seeds, plug plants, lovely community and good vibes. If your wanting to learn and grow your own veg / flowers i'd recommend.
Love my plot and love Roots
Love my plot and love Roots. The amount of seeds, plug plants and tools provided is fantastic and the knowledge and support shared among members is lovely. Also our really helpful, passionate site manager Will who's always on hand when you need. Great community, great place to be and growing your own food of course is just the best!
Could do with better management, nice community
They could do with getting on top of the up keep much better. Paths aren’t cut often enough, weeds spread and get onto plots a lot and my plot has a ridiculous amount of deep rooted dandelions which take forever to remove properly. Not sure if the seeds were dormant around the plots or what but I’ve never seen so many weeds come up on land before. When people ask for the grounds to be better maintained, Roots often say plot holders are welcome to do it ourselves but the point is we pay a LOT more than most council sites/other allotment sites which I’d expect to go towards making the site useable and pleasant. Took a very long time for them to get on top of a major rodent problem too and people left because of this. You don’t want to grow food to eat where rodents are urinating.
On the upside it’s a lovely community with people very willing to help each other out which is lovely and they do things like arrange for extra fruit and veg to go to community projects like lunches for the elderly or vulnerable. Lots of events too if you’re interested in those.
Roots is such a dream
Roots is such a dream! Lush people, amazing space and sense of community.
Everyone really cares about the environment and it’s so fun growing with likeminded people
Roots allotments
Roots allotments, Leigh woods: My go to place for relaxation away from my busy calendar. Caring for plants, great community and delicious veg. I have made more genuine friends at the allotment than I have done at work. A community that cares and very friendly to students from Bristol mainstream universities.
