Southwood, acting as sub-contractor, fitted a Firestone EDPM flat roof to my dormer loft conversion. Unfortunately one of the panels beneath the membrane was loose but both Southwood and the main contractor denied that this was a problem. Only when a surveyor, and Firestone themselves, said that it was not acceptable to leave a loose panel did they agree to resolve the problem.
Unfortunately the repair method they used was peeling back the membrane, securing the loose panel and relaying the membrane back on the existing surface whereas Firestone state:
"... removal of an adhered membrane will be very difficult and may cause damage to the membrane itself and will most likely pull part of the substrate panel material off with it (insulation facers, plywood splinters etc..).
The underside of the EPDM membrane and substrate will also have the residue of the original adhesive which will be impossible to remove.
It is likely that re-bonding the same piece of EPDM membrane will result in a very lumpy and bumpy appearance and poor adhesion..."
Despite this Southwood would not fix the roof to the standards set by the manufacturer.
