Romneys Kendal serving traditional food and real ales

Absolutely dreadful food. Fish & chips - was served on a dirty plate. The chips were clearly not fresh, they were stale and very unappetising. The fish batter was foul. It was dripping in a pool of grease, it was thick and very stodgy. By the colour of it, it did not appear the fish was freshly cooked either. By the colour and texture of the batter, it appears the fish was reheated. The food was absolutely terrible, I would never visit this place again, one of the worst establishments I’ve ever had the misfortune of visiting.
Great place to go for a bar meal, on site parking and handy for Kendal leisure centre.
The bar was cosy, food was delicious, there were plenty of staff, who were very helpful.
Would definitely revisit if travelling to Kendal again
Busy bar/restaurant, great atmosphere, food was spot on, more importantly service was superb!
After a hard day at work I was greeted by a smiling face and a cheerful hello by Max and made very welcomed he professionally asked what my dad and I would like to eat and served me and my dad and was interested in what sort of a day we had . He’s a credit to Romney’s.
The food was as always fantastic, and Max makes a good cappuccino yummy.
Visited on Friday 16th August 2024, good food and great service. The staff could not have been better - without doubt the staff are the best advert a place can have.
Great gastro pub in Kendal. Good range of drinks, beers, ciders, wines etc. Food was excellent especially the special which I went back for the next day only to find out it was so popular it was sold out. A special mention goes to a young lady called Eva who went the extra mile to make my wife and I visits enjoyable. Highly recommended.
NB watch out for the glass floor as you walk in!
I recently purchased some Kendal Mint Cake from Romneys. This arrived with the package open. I approached Romneys and the customer service was extremely efficient. They sent a replacement to the person who I had bought this for as a present and the person was over the moon with the gesture. Thank you so much Romneys really appreciated.
Returned to Romneys after very nice visit a number of years ago. We were in lodge 3 this time.
The rooms were unbearable with the heat. The hotel had no fans and didn’t really care, they told us to open all the windows, unfortunately didn’t help at all. The major concern though was the kids room was in direct sunlight and 30 degrees plus inside. It’s was 28 degrees in the rest - we know as they had a thermometer in the apartment. The issue with opening the kids bedroom window was anybody could get in as it was easily accessed externally. It turns out this didn’t really matter as the window didn’t lock anyway and it could be opened from the outside. Big security issue. We opened the windows elsewhere but the noise from the busy road was constant.
Accommodation was clean. Unfortunately the bathroom was so small you couldn’t get dry in it or put any toiletries in there, also the basin is comical it is that small if you turn the tap on the water overshoots the sink 😂. Damp on the ceiling. Severely overpriced in our opinion.
Pub and restaurant. Firstly the food was good and reasonably priced we had dinner on the Saturday evening. On a negative, the wait time at the bar ranged from 5 to 35 mins, they had the staff but only one working on the bar and serving the restaurant. It was not ridiculously busy it was just nobody seemed to know what they were doing. The food was good when it came. They forgot to bring one meal and then when we asked they accused us of eating it. Never experienced that before.
Great play area for the kids to play though.
Unfortunately won’t be making a third trip to Romneys, spoilt a nice memory.
Arranged and was sat, good table however sun in eyes. Asked to move waitress was awesome however manager asked "what do you want me to do about it" wedding get moved. Next we moved outside as was very hot after we ate(very close to carvery) waitress again was fine asked us to pop in and pay when ready. Then manager sent staff member out to force us to pay there and then. Great food, 95% staff awesome nice setting. However the manager let the place down 100%. How is it the staff are better than manager.
Quote " how scarey is that women, she's put me off my food!" Not my table
Location superb stayed for one night in the lodge, everything was brilliant, quality rooms , pub is superb and up to date on site
Can’t fault anything
We will be back
My wife and I called in for the Sunday carvery. The staff were welcoming and prompt in taking our order & our table good with comfortable dining chairs. The food was of good quality (not the usual dried out stuff found at many other carvery pubs). There is also a good & varied selection of real ales. Not given 5 stars as I believe a place must go beyond expectation for that, but I'm very happy to recommend this establishment to anyone.
