ABSOLUTE RUBBISH (THE SECOND ONE THAT HAS FAILED) JUNKHAWK

To be honest I bought a roadhawk top of the range 1080p HD dash cam from Dogcam Sport (Their recoginsed supplier) it certainly wasn't cheap & I paid top whack for the whole set up, forking out about £250.00 nearly 4 years ago...that (the first one) never really worked right & failed with a firmware fault after about a year, it kept having a fit & "Sttttuuutterrrrrinnng like mad & going SD CARD OR CAMERA ERROR PLEASE CHECKKKKKKKK KKKK CHHEKKKKK....CHEKKKK..SSSSDCARRRRDDERRRRRORRR CHECKKKKKKKKK.& contantly switching on & off by itself & NOT RECORDING!!
I complained to Roadhawk & they replaced it.....fair enough I thought........(But i had to pay postage & send it back to Roadhawk Head Office in Bodmin, Cornwall)
& in the interim I thankfully bought a NEXTBASE HD Camera to protect my vehicle, as there was no way I was being without a camera while Roadhawk faffed about in Bodmin with the junk that I had sent back to them..
Eventually I got a new replacement HD Roadhawk dash cam back from them & I put it down to a one off & bad luck.....Typical!

HOWEVER!!
The replacement one that they sent me has just failed after only about 2-3 years use...& even though it says it is recording & all appears normal.....
On start up it says "ROADHAWK CAMERA IS ON & GPS SIGNAL DETECTED" (With both RED & GREEN LEDs becoming illuminated as normal),
I have today found out to my cost that in fact IT ISNT RECORDING ANYTHING ANYMORE!! ....as I have just unfortunately found out as I have needed to review some VITAL FOOTAGE after a serious incident....SO IT HAS LET ME DOWN WHEN I REALLY NEEDED IT THE MOST!!!......(Despite keeping the card formatted at regular intervals).....
The Green GPS light is on as is the Red RECORDING light........It WILL NOT PLAYBACK ON THE ROADHAWK SOFTWARE (Despite updating all as required) & after a lot of messing about on PC the only image playback that I can get is a thin green line.....with no sound or GPS......basically NOTHING OF ANY EVIDENTIAL USE.......
The Roadhawk HD camera cannot be trusted to record even when you do everything right (& when it says it is recording)

Thanks Roadhawk for your..."Digital Driver Protection System" that has proved to be about as much use as a concrete parachute!
Thankfully the MUCH CHEAPER NEXT BASE camera that I had bought in the interim to use whilst my Roadhawk was away, I found outperformed it, so I used the NEXTBASE AS MAIN CAMERA IN THE FRONT & instead I relegated the JUNKHAWK to the rear view.....so at least thanks to the NEXT BASE i at least have some footage of this incident...........

THANK GOD I HAD A NEXTBASE ON BOARD!!

Do yourself a favour get yourself a NEXT BASE as they are far cheaper & have an actual FULL COLOUR SCREEN (Even the cheap model at £39 quid)...
The Nextbase can even be used as a stills camera to photograph any vehicle damage.
The next base camera range are second to none & beat this ROADHAWK RUBBISH hands down.........

YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.......BUYER BEWARE!!!

No doubt I could get it replaced but whats the point when you have lost all confidence in the brand????

I WOULDN'T HAVE ONE OF THESE JUNKHAWK ROADHAWKS GIVEN TO ME!!!....(Or if they paid me)
THEY SEEM OK AT FIRST BUT IN ALL HONESTY & REALITY, THEY ARE ABSOLUTE RUBBISH, THEY DON'T LAST, CAN'T GO THE DISTANCE & AFTER TIME ARE ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN!!!

PERSONALLY I REALLY AM DISAPPOINTED WITH ROADHAWK CAMERAS........BUY THEM AT YOUR PERIL.

MY ADVICE IS, BUY A CHEAPER BRAND......BUY NEXT BASE,YOU WILL IN FACT!!!!!! BUY A BETTER CAMERA IN REALITY!
& A CAMERA TO SWEAR BY.............NOT AT!!!!!

SORRY ROADHAWK...........NEVER AGAIN!!!

In November 2016 I was forced off the road by two boy racers, damaged my car not knowing that there was a large deep pothole filled with water which I went into ripping off the tyre, none of this was captured it stopped recording and obviously took so long to restart it missed the event,
In April I witnessed an accident at a T junction once again thinking I could help with insurance claim I down loaded the card NOTHING, it had stopped and not restarted in time yet again.
For £179 it is useless, the final straw on Saturday my husband was hit, wrote off the car, what's on the card NOTHING, it had stopped and then fell to pieces on impact.
Don't waste your money.

Bullet R+ Good camera but nervous using it

Bullet R+
I have the camera for use on my motorbike. I followed all the instructions for attaching the self adhesive mounts and within the first week the first mount fell off whilst I was riding. Luckily, I was only doing about 10mph in traffic so the camera just bounced on the floor. Tried a second mount, left it over a week held in place on the side of my helmet with duct tape so the adhesive had time to set. This time it last two weeks and fell off at 60mph on a dual carriageway. Lucky for me i was using the battery pack which attaches using a cable, or I would have either lost or damaged the camera. Now, both of these mounts were fitted to my new Shoei helmet, which was cleaned and the area wiped before applying. I bought a set of 3M adhesive pads for a go-pro, carefully removed the old adhesive and replaced, perfect! This has just survived a trip to Italy at speed. My advice if you buy this camera for use on a motorbike, buy the go pro stickers because the ones supplied are not up to the job. I have one mount left from the power pack I may vlog it showing the fitting and how easy they come off so people can see what I mean.

DOES NOT WORK AS IT SHOULD

DOES NOT WORK AS IT SHOULD. As others on here , i've just had a major accident and the Roadhawk HD did NOT record the incident . Nothing on the unit told me that it was not recording and the last date of record was April. All lights on the unit were on as they should be. Strange how the unit started recording a minute after the accident which is obviously no good at all. I'm using the recommended Memory card and it has only used 10 gig of the 16 gig available so that's not the issue either. In short don't fork out so much money on a dash cam that obviously is not up to the job .

Hi Kieran, thank you for your review.

I'm sorry to hear that you have been experiencing problems with your dash cam. It would be interesting to find out if you have been carrying out basic maintenance on your memory card as your problem sounds like one caused by failing to format your card regularly.

With all dash cameras (not just RoadHawk), and many other electronic items that use an SD Card, the memory card does require a basic format around every 6-8 weeks due to the nature of the overwriting process. We recommend this because memory cards are not designed to continually overwrite and as such are susceptible to generating bad sectors which can cause the video to skip or the camera to stop recording.

The fact there is only 10GB being used on the memory card suggests there is an issue with a bad sector. We would expect 14-15GB in use.

Reference to formatting the memory card is in section 8 of the user guide – Using this software.

If the volume is turned up on your camera, the camera will have said ‘Card or camera error’ when it detects a bad sector and the memory card should be formatted at the earliest opportunity when this happens.

Further information on issues with formatting memory cards can be found here: http://www.roadhawk.co.uk/camera-error-reported.

Alternatively, if you would like to speak to us about this, feel free to call us on 01208 269 159.

…Lack of ASSITENCIA post sale

I had a RoadHawk that worked very well (video/audio) I swapped for a RoadHawk HD. After mounting very easy I checked that the audio recording was so bad that you didn't hear anything at all with the commands at most. I contacted the support, sent a video of the situation and received (use the program "VLC media"). Unbelievable this solution, perhaps because I am Dora from the UK, but with this solution little would help. And so I was more than complaining, all this in the camera's warranty period. I wouldn't advise the purchase of cameras with this ASSITENCIA to the client.

I have installed one of these cameras into my own car having seen the quality of the footage from the ones installed in our trucks at work, very easy to install complete with the external GPS aerial supplied in the kit. I would strongly recommend these cameras to anyone.

Very Unreliable Camera

Used to work fine but as soon as it was over warranty period, it started playing around. Most of the times the camera wont come on despite the fact that charger light is on. Either it needs a tap or taking the charging cable in and out few times. I got the charger directly plugged without any connector so its not the case of loose wiring or anything else.

Had an accident today and the camera was off which definitely worths a negative review. "I am more confident with the camera in my wife's car which i bought for £20 from ebay, although it comes with poor video quality but atleast it records all the time."

PS: I read the reviews here by other members, from review of "Alan Hopkins" posted here, it seems like I am not exception, other members are facing exactly same issue.

It never worked

Lots of emails to customer service, lots of suggestions until I eventually just gave up. It never worked for more than a few minutes and would stop for no reason, often switching on when it should have been switching off resulting in great videos of brick walls at a slight angle ( from bike parked on its side stand). If you have a thousand hours, patience of a saint and don't want something you need to rely on then knock yourself but out otherwise stay away. In the end they said they couldn't help me any more, complete Chinese junk!

DC-1 Doesn't stand the test of time.

Good.
Well made and easy to set up.
Global positioning and speed read out on replay, easy to find "incidents"
The hardware has been reliable over the last five years.

Bad.
Unable to read No. plates on playback which is pretty important.
After two to three years software became out dated and now it is next to worthless, unacceptable for the cost involved.

roadhawk hd 3yrs to the roadhawk vision

started off with the roadhawk hd 3 year ago and in nov 2016 upgraded to the newer model vision both dashcams are amazing pieces of kit in both there quality and reliability that iv recommended to my bosses to which a few have bought the vision for family members, though the hd is one of the market priciest models they certainly bridged the gap with the vision model truly brilliant the quality is second to none and for myself with youtube and intouch with media and local emergency services having incidents recording both video and audio and having the back up ability and ability to view footage at the roadside via the vision app saves time for all parties in any such incidents and can not fault roadhawk

RoadHawk HD-2 Dash Cam

Having owned and used a RoadHawk HD-2 now for a couple of months it has failed to demonstrate many of the qualities that justify it's price point and was unable to meet the very basic requirements of a dash cam, my HD-2 is currently being replaced as it failed to power back up part way through a recent local trip. This camera has been used daily for journeys of about a 100 miles a day.

This Dash Cam has probably worked about 80% of the time 'when noticed' and upon reviewing the previous recordings stopped at various points for no reason. Camera start-up seems to vary from a few seconds to over 5 minutes to not at all, making it useless for local trips were most incidents are likely to occur.

It 'screeches' out a voiced warning as it starts recording and when the GPS signal locks, but the sound is poor due to the quality of the internal speaker and seems to vary in volume and noise.

After it failed to start up during a short trip to a petrol station I checked back through all the previous recordings to see how consistent it had been and noticed that for many of the previous journeys it had not started recording until miles into the trip. Unlike some of the other reviewer's the recording quality again seem to vary depending on light levels and type of weather, in some cases number plates are just barely distinguishable and the internal audio very low requiring the playback volume setting to max to be able hear anything.

Access to the SD Card can be tricky as the slot is slightly recessed and quite a small so it takes a few goes to click out.

The mount choices are good and the fixing position excellent.

The power adapter is of a low quality and appeared to be a sealed unit with a red light, very much like the sub £5 Halfords power adapters, also the manual indicated it was a replaceable fused type unit but on inspection it appeared to be a sealed unit and not fused. The cable connector also did not sit flush into the camera unit but was of sufficient length to run from the socket outlet.

The software is useable but a few times lost it's ability to find the SD Card even though I could browse through the MP4's via the windows explorer

****** Conclusion *********

I purchased this camera based on review's, which makes be wonder if perhaps the early versions of this product were better made units as I don't feel it has lived up to what other owners have rated it at, perhaps it's because I have used other products made by Garmin and NextBase, but I would go as far as to say I'm very disappointed with something that is priced as a flagship product (£250) I was expecting quality and reliability, both not found in this camera package!

I often found myself checking this camera to see if it was working, when you consider why you purchase a product like this and the important safety job it's doing in capturing a complete journey in case of an incident or event it has proven to be highly unreliable and inadequate and not something I could recommend to anyone.

** 03/02/2017 Second unit failed to power up this morning, light showing on the power supply cable, fuse ok but unit is non responsive. This one worked for little over a month.

Hi Chris,

We are really sorry to hear that the HD-2 has not lived up to your expectations. Feedback from other customers has been extremely positive therefore it would appear that you seem to have been unfortunate enough to have received a faulty unit.

Could you please email our technical support team at support@roadhawk.co.uk? I have passed on your review to the team who are keen to rectify any issues that you may still be experiencing. Alternatively, could you please give us a call on 01208 269159 – Josh, RoadHawk

Dont waste your money over priced rubbish

I bought one for my motorcycle. it switched off, it would not record over already used data. It failed to work in the dark.
I returned it to the supplier who checked it out and found it faulty and sent a 'new' one to replace it but it did look very much like the one i sent them ???? and guess what it again switched off failed to write over data, did not work in the dark and was totally unreliable. sent it back again and got a new one again. this one however did look newer however first trip out and again records me leaving home and for the first ten miles then nothing.

I went for the ride to the wall and got a better result by my son using a phone camera than i got off of this expensive piece of plastic.

I am only glad that I have not needed it for evidence as it is absolute rubbish you can not trust it and i would suggest getting any one elses but these.

Review Roadhawk

Keeps switching itself off. Not very reliable because you can't tell what it has recorded and what it hasn't. Defeats the point, really.

Roadhawk Peace of mind

After having a crash for cash experience, I invested in the Roadhawk HD. It was swiftly delivered and easy to fit ( I had the in-car hardwiring installed by cars main dealer) which is almost invisible.

It gives me a subconscious feeling of security whenever I'm driving, knowing that if anything does occur once again I can simply hand in the recorded data and there is no comeback from the other party.

Looking at the data on my computer is simple and gives me a lot of useful info on the location and 'g forces' I may have experienced. Always hand if the other person want to try it on with 'oooooh Whiplash' as laws of physics shows the every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Great overall experience of the product and company.

The best one yet

I've had a number of dash-cams over the last few years, with increasing video resolutions, increasingly sophisticated features, increasing claims about this and that, and inevitably, increasing prices. I sucked my teeth for quite a while before taking the financial plunge and investing in a Roadhawk, afraid that maybe I was getting suckered into one purchase too many. I needn't have worried though, it does exactly what it says on the tin, and I'm more than happy with the results. I can now read the company names on the sides of the white vans that roar past me in a 30 zone, and send the company in question my considered opinion of their driver's suitability for employment, backed up by the GPS coordinates of the idiot's behaviour, the speed at which I was travelling when it took place, and the registration number of the van in question. Hopefully I have given a few transport managers sufficient additional ammunition with which to lose the odd moron from their drivers roster before they kill someone in a branded vehicle.

Roadhawk - Poorer quality than cheap non brand

I bought the Roadhawk, assuming that it'd be good quality. I wanted a "good brand name". It was a total letdown. The camera is made in China, and is of poor quality. The camera simply didn't work, and then I had to go to the rounds of arranging postage, which I had to pay for, to return the camera! A total waste of money. I bought a cheap one for less than a fifth of the price since, and it works, and is of far better quality!
