Excellent Medical Care but Unacceptable Room Temperatures

Excellent Medical Care but Unacceptable Room Temperatures

I recently underwent a hysteroscopy procedure at Rivers Hospital and would like to commend Dr. Elfarra and the clinical team for the outstanding care I received. Dr. Elfarra was professional, reassuring and compassionate throughout, and the nursing and support staff were equally kind, attentive and caring. The medical care I received was truly five-star.

Unfortunately, my overall experience was significantly impacted by the lack of adequate temperature control within the hospital. During the current heatwave, my room became unbearably hot, to the extent that I chose to discharge myself earlier than planned. This was not only uncomfortable during recovery but also concerning from a patient welfare perspective.

I also felt for the staff, many of whom were visibly struggling in the extreme heat. Some were still wearing winter uniforms and, when I mentioned the temperature, I was told that concerns had been raised previously but little had changed.

Given the premium cost associated with private healthcare, I believe appropriate air conditioning or, at the very least, adequate cooling measures such as fans should be a basic standard for both patient comfort and staff wellbeing. It was disappointing that my room did not even have a fan available.

Whilst Dr. Elfarra and the clinical team deserve the highest praise for the care they provided, the hospital’s facilities management has let both patients and staff down in this regard. I sincerely hope this issue is addressed as a matter of urgency.
