Renée Yoxon Voice Training Reviews 

I took two of Reneé's courses: Masculinize Your Voice Without Testosterone and Mix and Match (a nonbinary voice course). Both courses start with some foundational information about the physiology of voices and how your body produces sound. Then, they go into how to change the sound of your voice and how to re-habituate yourself so that your "default" voice feels more gender-affirming. The Mix and Match class spends a little more time in an exploratory phase, where you learn about *all* the cool sounds humans can make, instead of sticking to just masculine sounds. 10/10, would recommend to anyone wanting to explore voice work!

Renée has a rare combination of nerd level skills in voice training (they have a background in jazz voice), and a real gift for explaining tricky concepts. They bring an attitude of serving the queer community to everything they do. There really is no one like them in the trans voice space. I recommend trying a course and if you want more personalized help they have a list of vetted voice teachers who have studied with them personally.

I'm doing the Mix and Match nonbinary course, and the lessons support this beautifully well. There's a lot of focus on exploration and building the necessary skills. For my everyday speaking voice I'm actually heading for a rather plain Standard Average femme voice. But I love playing around with my voice generally and the skills I'm learning supports that beautifully.

Renée method is working for me.
Having a femenine voice is really powerfull and sexy, The best investment we can make as a M2F transgender. My end goal is to talk, laugh, and sing like a woman.

I purchased the Mindful Voice Feminization course months ago and it has been no help. When I try to apply things from the lessons, they do not help and my voice is still extremely masculine with no hint of feminization. They advertise a Discord community, but it's completely dead, no one is available to help there. The only people in it are beginners just as confused as I am. The Q&A sessions are only once a month and they are only offered during weekday working hours. I finally had the right day off and was able to attend one, and the only solution offered to my concerns was to pay for private lessons. I can't afford private lessons when I've already spent money on a course that has not been helpful.

In response to the reply:
Asking me to do the exercises that don't work from your lessons in front of a group of people after we've touched on how bad my vocal dysphoria and anxiety are is both not a solution and extremely insensitive. The one and only solution you offered was for me to buy private lessons.

You commented that the 18 people in the Q&A session were the most you had ever had. I know you must have students in Europe too, but if your office hours are always on a weekday between 9am and 5pm no matter where a person is in North America, then you've never accommodated those time zones.

Finally, I would love to get a refund. But I purchased the course all the way back in February, 10 months ago. I really wanted your program to work for me and I wanted a chance to finally attend a Q&A. But I have spent 10 months doing the work, following your exercises and watching your YouTube videos, and none of it has worked. And your only solution was to ask for more money.

I've learned so much incredibly helpful knowledge in this voice training course, they have such a good way of teaching voice in a way that's motivating and fun. The modules are engaging and not too challenging to keep up with, and the included vocal warm-up has been invaluable for learning what's good for my vocal health, as someone without a background in singing or even talking that loud, hah.

Renée offers so good courses where you learn a ton of knowledge about voice anatomy, perception of voices, a variety of techniques to achieve your own goal voice, but more than anything - how to achieve that while caring for yourself, feeling good and motivated about voice training, and access to a community with people on their own journeys. I'm personally so grateful for Renée's focus on mental health and making voice training fun and light-hearted !!

This is my second week of the course, and I’m really enjoying Renée’s teaching style. I watched the first two weeks of videos during my first week, and they are definitely worth revisiting again and again. I’m now working on the Resonance module, and I can already notice a difference when I follow Renée’s guidance. I can imagine that if I had tried to teach myself, I would have started with pitch and become fixated on pitch height, without realising that resonance is actually the most important component of voice feminisation.

This has been my favorite online resource for trans voices. Between the monthly meetups, the forever access to the lessons, and the discord community, it feels like it was designed for me.

Further, Renée is active in the community. I have personally seen questions and ideas from class conversations end up in to videos on YouTube later.

Renée is an incredible teacher and wants you to succeed. They do everything in their power to make their classes approachable and accessible to everyone looking to start their trans voice journey. They make an effort to explain concepts in a variety of ways because what works for one person may not work for another. They also have office hours and YouTube videos that you can use to supplement your learning and hone in on getting the results you're looking for.

Renée genuinely wants everyone to feel at home in their voice, and their business is a reflection of that. Renée’s courses cover the fundamentals of voice, and show how to make progress from vocal beginner to full-time vocal transition. Their courses also include access to monthly office hours to ask Renée questions directly, and an online community with support from other students. Relative to other teachers, what stands out to me is that Renée focuses on exploration and play. Exploration is valuable because there’s not one way to sound like your target gender, and as we learn, we make better goals with that knowledge. Play is important, because having fun makes you want to do things—think how much easier it is to “motivate” yourself to do something you already want to do. Whether you're a total beginner, or someone who wants more out of their vocal transition, Renée has something for you.

Renée's classes, online resources, and incredible office hours have helped me so much. I have become more confident in my speaking voice and appreciative of my ability to speak in a voice that represents my true self.

I highly recommend Renée's work if you're interested in learning how to change your voice. They are so caring and encouraging while sharing expert methods that really work. Voice training is a long-term practice, and it's been a pleasure to have these classes be part of my life.

Absolutely great course that lets you go at your own pace. I’d suggest combining it with their YouTube videos which can help you target specific issues. Their customer support is among the best I’ve experienced. Absolutely a great option for those that may not be able to afford one on one voice training. Highly recommend!
