Long-term tenant
Long-term tenant.
Terry Finn of Regatta Sales took over management of the private rental property I was residing in midway through my eight-year tenancy, and my experience with him was very poor. Communication could be dismissive and at times hostile when I made reasonable requests, including requesting time to review the lease. I was also pressured to sign a lease on the spot without being given reasonable time to properly review the terms. On a number of occasions, I felt interactions lacked basic professional courtesy, which contributed to my feeling uncomfortable and intimidated during the tenancy.
Throughout my residential tenancy with Regatta, expectations were often unclear, and there were repeated issues around notice for property access and maintenance, including multiple unannounced visits from Terry, which I found intrusive. On one occasion, I was told to keep the property “nice and clean”, which I found inappropriate and condescending in the context of a tenancy. On another, he remained standing on my doorstep while I reviewed a lease document, which I found uncomfortable and intimidating.
I also previously rented a commercial space from Regatta. When arranging a sub-tenant, Terry aggressively advised me to handle it informally rather than use a formal process. Given that the sub-tenant would have had access to shared entry points, alarm codes, a private lot, and areas facing residential properties, I found this advice concerning given the security and access implications.
Overall, I found the communication and manner of interaction very uncomfortable and had concerns about how a number of matters were handled. Some interactions left me questioning the professionalism of the processes being followed. The standard fell below what I would expect from a professional real estate agent.
