AVOID!!! CON ARTISTS!!!
Purchased breakdown cover through DYNAMO but didn't realise it's this company you'll be dealing with if you have a break down. Also you pay monthly for breakdown cover, or a one off payment which covers for when you break down etc, but then you have to pay an excess fee if you call them out because you’ve broken down, around £30!!! How on earth does this make any sense? I thought your original breakdown cover payment would include call outs, so how can they expect you to pay more money on top if you call them out????:-/ This sounds like a money grabbing con artist company to me & a huge scam!!!
Very unprofessional
Very unprofessional. There is no roadside assistance. They will first waste your 30 mints to take all the information which they already have in their system. After an hours wait KD BROS. will just come to toe your car even if it’s simple puncture. They will waste all your day just to do the simple job.
Reasonably priced, attentive service, honoured commitments
I can't say I've reached the point of auto-renewal, so can't comment on that, but the support I've received during a breakdown has been really impressive. Having been unfortunate enough to break down 3 times in the year, they were always very communicative with limited wait times, checked in to ensure operatives arrived, and honoured the contract without too much fuss, even when a long-distance home recovery was required. I was told anecdotally about really long waits when using RAC etc, but never had any such issue with RecoverCover. It was also much cheaper than any of the competitors!
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!!
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!
INCLUDING SISTER/PARENT COMPANIES DYNAMO COVER, ACTION CALL, HOME RESCUE.CO
They draw you in with a cheap deal, then increase contract by RPI plus admin fees and put you on auto renew (Rip off renewal price of course). If you want to cancel policy or auto renewal they charge you fees!
Every breakdown policy I have ever bought over the past years, the company try to hold on to you as a regular, returning customer, who will also recommend them to your family and friends...NOT THIS LOT! SEEMS LIKE A WELL DRILLED SCAM! just out for a quick buck! SO DON'T FALL FOR IT! I did,and it cost me to get out of it....SO BE WARNED,STAY WELL AWAY!!
Date of experience: 18 August 2023
Caused £430 of damage!!
I bought a policy with this firm through DynamoCover. I had a fuel leak and had to call them. The repair guy from "Lanes Recovery" in Cardiff turned up within the hour and tried to fix the problem. He was hapless! He even managed to drop a socket head into the engine and it was only by chance it didn't go into the actual cylinders which he'd got exposed! After spending an hour taking bits apart, he gave up so they arranged for a transporter to get me back home to Manchester. The next day, in the daylight, when my garage took a look, it turns out that the hapless mechanic had, by using a screwdriver to try and prise apart the connecter from the fuel pump, snapped the connector and also broken a clip on the pressure pipe, causing £430 of damage which I've had to pay for!!
I complained and the response I got....
"1) The actions undertaken by the initial attending Technician appear to have been appropriate and necessary in the circumstances and 2) The alleged damage sustained to the fuel pump connector and pressure hose clip appear to have been largely unavoidable by whoever was in a position to initiate
repairs."
All I've been offered is £50!!
Excellent Service!
Lots of awful reviews for this company but can only say that when I had a flat tyre the breakdown company arrived within 20 minutes. The tyre was irreparable but the mechanic followed me to kwikfit with a rapidly deflating tyre . When I didn't make it he called out a pickup truck which, again got to us within 20 minutes and took us on to Kwikfit.
Can only say that I was impressed and hope that Recover Cover have turned a corner and won't deserve any more awful reviews.
Price increase during contract, auto renewal, ridiculous cancellation fee
Same as others. Bought breakdown cover through comparison site, paid in full £45 for whole year and few weeks later been charged £11 for price adjustment!? That's 25% increase during contract already paid in full?
My contract is due to finish in next few weeks and I was suspicious why they've not sent me any renewal price so I checked reviews. After reading them I immediately logged in and switched off auto renewal on their website. If they still charge I'll report them to every place to stop them scamming people.
The owner of that company will go to prison for that - I'm sure.
STAY CLEAR FROM THEM
EDIT: I've just reported them to Trading Standards and cancelled my debit card so I hope they won't charge me anymore.
Shocking, Criminals!
Shocking! Avoid like the plague! Got breakdown cover with Dynamo through these cowboys, no mention of an excess at point of sale but, surprise surprise, the first time I need roadside assistance, Dynamo inform me they can't help unless I pay a £25 excess. Any attempt to contact these criminals results in you being put through to Dynamo who say that I need to contact RecoverCover. Even the email contact on the RecoverCover website is Dynamo. Absolute joke! I will be filing a claim through the small claims track!
PLEASE AVOID RECOVER COVER THROUGH…
PLEASE AVOID RECOVER COVER THROUGH DYNAMO!
If you breakdown and the car is stationary and can't be moved due to electrical failure you will be subjected to a additional payment of £99.99 for specialist equipment. It is in the small print of a 20 page T&C's but who has the time for that??? Remember most cars today will suffer the same plight due to them controlled by electric instruments.
Worst recovery company ever known
This company is very bad in every way possible, doesn't deserve any stars.l finished a ten hour shift this morning at 8am & they came to recover me at 1pm. I phoned them at 8:14am.Phoned them a couple of times at 11:47 onwards to see if they where coming & there reply was will be another 90 minutes. I've got to take my wife to work at 2:30 & start my 10 hour shift at 10pm.When l rang they kept me on hold for ages & said yes it will be another 90 minutes, l waited 5 hours nearly.l said why is it taking so long & there reply is its very busy, sorry they said, with no other explanation. Really wish l read these reviews before l went with this company. I do not want to renew my policy & will be emailing them,so they don't automatically renew & try to charge me to cancel. I will be getting in contact with Martin Lewis & rip off Britain & any other things l can do to expose this company. I used to suffer with asthma & a weak chest & had no problems for a long time but waiting in freezing weather-snow & rain for 5 hours with no sleep has made my health very bad & l had an asthma attack & l now have had a very bad cough. I will be taking this all the way to expose this company for the terrible experience l've had.PLEASE DON'T GO WITH THIS COMPANY. l'm still sitting here freezing & shaking & feel very I'll.
Avoid like the plague
Edit: Grudging lift from one star to two stars because, after showing a video of their link failing to cancel, they did revoke the renewal immediately, ie a person intervened in the process. But how could I recommend to anyone a company that had systems that fail when cancelling, and where there is no-one to call? A combined effort on their admin@ and support@ emails, with further replies to their automated replies, brought about the desired result. But cancelling, and contacting, a company that has free access to your bank account SHOULD NOT be this difficult.
From reading other Trustpilot reviewers, woe betide anyone who accidentally doesn't cancel in time. You will not get all your money back if seems, you have to cancel ahead of time. And the renewal will not be like for like. My original policy was £50, Silver, and the renewal was £132, as they had surreptitiously bumped me up to their Silver BOOST package. This is sharp practice if ever it existed.
So it remains grudging 2 stars...
As stated in the original review below, I had a ZERO-EXCESS policy. After a call out in Feb 2023, they extracted £13 from my account without explanation. When I complained at the time they did not reply. I did not follow it up as life is too short. In my emails to them re this cancellation, though they did eventually cancel, they again ignored the complaint about extracting money from my account without reason or right. KEEP THIS IN MIND, IT SEEMS THEY CAN TAKE MONEY FROM YOUR ACCOUNT WITH IMPUNITY.
Sort out your systems, don't take money that isn't yours, become customer friendly.
Original review: Avoid like the plague. The link in the policy renewal to cancel the policy comes up with a "404 Not Found" server error. So even though I have caught them before they take money from my account, there is no way of stopping it. I have turned off auto renew in my current policy, but this does not stop them from showing the renewal policy. There is no way of calling them on the contact number, as all options lead back to going to the website and pressing the cancel button that doesn't work, and then hanging up. This is crucial functionality as it stops them having access to take money from my bank account. Thus, through their system's no doubt careful set up, it is impossible to cancel before renewal. Contacting them via the support and admin email addresses offers an 8 day or 8 week response time, which will be too late. The path via the ombudsman seems heavy, with the ombudsman not upholding complaints against their sharp practices (you can view their judgements at their website). Even if my efforts work and I somehow manage to stop the renewal, I would never recommend them to anyone, and would keep the 1 star review. I had reason to call them out for a breakdown in February, despite having a zero excess policy, they still charged me £13 for the pleasure. And the man they sent was foul mouthed, expletive ridden, unlike a polite AA or RAC person. As say. A very bad experience. I can't believe the FCA allow a company to operate like this. Avoid like the plague
How is this company allowed to trade
How is this company allowed to trade? Discovered they took money out of my account without my consent after taking out policy. Despite not using their services renewal came through vastly inflated. Could not speak to them on phone to cancel and forced to cancel online. Without my permission Recover Cover/Dynamo Cover extracted money from my account for cancellation of a renewal, how can that be possible? They then went ahead anyway and attempted to take money for renewal despite 'successful' cancellation. They are now harassing and threatening me because I have blocked them from using my bank account as their personal piggy-bank. They say I must pay them renewal almost £100 + £45 for their trouble otherwise they will take measures to recover their lossess in 7 days which will involve me in further cost. They have complained I have not spoken to them but they do not provide a telephone number despite repeated requests. Ombudsman service says they are allowed 8 weeks to sort the matter out following complaint. All I wanted them to do was respect the timely cancellation and cease taking money from my account. Why is that unreasonable?
Totally endorse the negative comments…
Totally endorse the negative comments on here from experience. An absolute con. Recover cover and Dynamo Cover are breakdown agency services. I have been completely stung because they didn’t tell me I was on auto renewal, which was called an ‘invite’ which is so misleading. How is it an invite if they believe you are on auto renewal. Only one reminder invite sent 3 weeks before policy end. I have had to cancel their automatic renewal as it was no longer needed. This company charged almost 50% of the vastly inflated renewal cost in broker charges and admin charges. Please beware of these companies.
Mickey mouse Co
I couldn't contact any way. Auto renewal a scam as I couldn't cancel. Next step Martin Lewis & Rip Off Britain.
There is no way to contact them
There is no way to contact them. All the telephone options I try just say to hand up and go to the website to make an update. The reason I am calling it because I can't make the change on the useless website.
I will never use this useless company again.
Two experiences of needing call out - fist class service
This is my first year with Recovercover/Dynamo recovery. To date I have had to call them out twice - once for a tyre blow-out on the motorway, and yesterday for a breakdown on the A1. Both times the response has been first rate. Yesterday, there was a mechanic on-site within 40 mins of the call being logged, and soon after a recovery vehicle as the car needed to be removed to their garage for repair (Peterborough). Although the repair proved not possible at the garage, I was provided with a courtesy car to continue my journey (and return home the following day), with my car being recovered to me home address in Sheffield. I had follow-up texts/calls to check they had turned up, and subsequently that I had been given a courtesy car. My personal experiences so far are very positive!
Try to con you over price
I've had breakdown cover before with Dynamo that I never used, but because I had it once, they wouldn't honour the price I found for them using a comparison site. That site did manage to specify all the cover terms but didn't specify new customers only, you only find this out when you get to the website and they try to charge you 3 times the quoted price, more than most of the old established companies! Went with another Rescue company, almost the same price, have also had cover with them before (and made 1 callout) and they did honour their quoted price from the comparison site.
I'm sick of being gouged, there's no difference between an existing customer who has never claimed and a new one, except I hope my review deters potential new customers as there are definitely better companies out there.
Disgusting company
Avoid at all costs.
I did not receive a renewal reminder email that they claim to have sent (much like everyone else on here) and unfortunately the policy was an auto-renewal one. Once the money was taken from my account I discovered that their website is horrific anyway so you cannot access any notifications that they send you even if you do receive the reminder email.
2 hours into the £132 policy (up from £34 in my first year) I tried to cancel. Turns out they wanted to keep their £80 brokerage fee plus a £5 cancellation fee leaving me with a proposed refund of £46.
There’s no mention of their brokerage fee being non-refundable in any of the policy documents, only on their FAQ’s which customers aren’t obligated to read or sign before purchase.
I called and after an hour in the queue, the phone hung up. I called again and after another 40 minutes, was met with the rudest customer service agent who could not care less. The amount they’re paying them cannot be worth defending these cowboys against all of the angry calls they must get from customers finding out they’ve been scammed.
Ended up having to go through their complaints process via email as apparently they don’t have the power to cancel policies over the phone and there’s also no complaints department over the phone either; convenient.
I ended up being palmed off with a refund offer of £97 after the customer service agent continued to misquote their terms and conditions. They know that their terms are ambiguous themselves and continually dodge these accusations. Whoever I spoke to should consider a career as a politician. I couldn’t take it anymore so I accepted the £97 and ran, and I am in the process of reporting them to the FCA so that hopefully no one else has to put up with their rubbish. The £35 loss is nothing to me if it means I can get as far away from these lowlife scammers as possible.
They also claim not to be insurance brokers on their website but seem to have found a nice legal loophole for themselves by operating the same company under several trading names (Recover Cover, Dynamo etc) so that Dynamo can act as brokers for the insurance they provide through Recover Cover and the other trading names. The only mention of Dynamo being brokers at all prior to purchase is once in their Terms of Business under the “Conflicts of Interest” section-the same document where they introduce themselves as “administrators” and outline their earnings as just “fees” (as opposed to “non-refundable brokerage fees” which is apparently what they actually are). I’m sure that insurance brokers are supposed to be independent of any insurance company- how can this be the case for Dynamo if they are simultaneously the insurance company? Not sure how this is legal at all.
I’m not sure their employees even quite understand how it all works, at one point they claimed that I agreed to Policy Wording documents for breakdown cover from Dynamo Cover when I actually agreed to ones from Recover Cover which are completely different. They don’t know what they’re talking about.
I’ve spoken to Citizens Advice and my bank and everyone I’ve spoken to agrees that this is dodgy and should be reported. Hoping a lot of us have the same idea so that this can be stopped.
They are a disgrace of a company and should be ashamed. Thank goodness I’m no longer with them too as judging by the rest of these reviews, it doesn’t sound like they’d be of much help if I was stranded on the side of the road anyway.
I happen to be with Recover Cover for…
I happen to be with Recover Cover for the whole year as my breakdown cover with no claims as well to point out. At the start I requested to remove myself from their automatic renewal and thank goodness I did that at the start of 2022 because I am reading a lot of reviews regarding customers being charged extortionately which is very disappointing. Anyway I was unaware my renewal was up at the end of July 2023 and I called up to say why didn't Recover Cover give me a reminder about me nearing the end of my policy. They say it's because I've removed myself from the automatic renewal. I have to say this is a very poor practice as you have left me with no breakdown cover for over 20 days and thank goodness I had no breakdowns. Normally reputable companies always give a reminder regarding a renewal and this wasn't the case with Recover Cover. I guess it always pays to buy from reputable companies rather than using these small businesses who have no pride in their business. I suggest to stay away from them and buy from someone who values their customers. Also during the year they increased my premiums due to the increase in the RPI. Funny they don't mention this at the start of buying their policies.
Call up to avoid the "new customer discount" fee
I've had cover with this company for 1 year. I got a renewal quote which was around triple the price I found when comparing new customer quotes online, so naturally wanted to cancel. When I went to cancel online, it said I would have to pay £43.99 to cancel, as I had benefitted from a "new customer discount". I checked all my policy documents and could not find anything relating to this. I called up, finally got through to someone and explained the situation. They took some details and asked about pricing I had found elsewhere to see if they could price match (they couldn't). They then asked if I just wanted to cancel the policy. I said yes, as long as I won't get charged the £43.99 - they confirmed no, you will not be charged anything extra, no questions or quibble.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS, AND IF YOU HAVE A SIMILAR ISSUE HAPPEN WHEN YOU LOOK ONLINE, CALL UP AND THEY WILL WAIVE THE FEE.
Absolute joke - just hoping people will not have the patience to work their way through their evasive automated phone menu and what I'm sure must be deliberately annoying hold music.
Top tip - when you call up, go through to "renewals" (option 2), then choose "change something with your renewal" (option 3) and stay on the line to get through to a real person.
