Definitely a 5 star experience this afternoon. The buildings and streets are interesting but without the 'staging' and well presented commentary we would have learned little history. Our guide Calum pointed out details we would have missed, educated and entertained us and brought the whole experience to life. Thanks also to the rest of the very helpful staff
Great tour BUT bring headphones for translation
Interesting tour with lots of information delivered so well by our guide, Cameron. We were a group of 5, with 2 non English speaking visitors to Scotland. The only disappointing feature for me was NO headphones or translation equipment for our two Hungarian visitors to enjoy the tour too. There was a written description in other languages including Hungarian, which one of our party tried to read on her phone as we went into each room but not as interactive for them in low lit rooms underground as it was for us and I was so disappointed for them as I’d had great translation equipment in other attractions abroad and expected the same at home for our visitors. If the booking had said to bring your own headphones to access a spoken translation we would have brought some. Please add this to your tour description for future non English speakers.

A fantastic history tour
A fantastic history tour! The Real Mary King's close is a great tour/experience under the streets of Edinburgh, Rose was a lovely, knowledgeable guide and the experience itself was fantastic, showcasing the original preserved buildings and streets, the tour lastest around an hour and was really interesting throughout, the only thing to note would be there lots of uneven surfaces and steps (as to be expected) but I wouldn't recommend this for anyone particularly unsteady on their feet, although Rose was really good at pointing out any potential hazards when walking around

When I booked I was dubious as having a tour guide tour with 3 children, I was worried they would be bored.
Within seconds of meeting Josh our tour guide I was put at ease, what a wonderful actor, full of fun, energy and the knowledge of Mary close put across in a fun manner, myself and children thoroughly enjoyed, was worth every penny, thank you 😊
Absolutely Fantastic

Calum was AMAZING!!!
First of all our tour guide Calum was AMAZING! The tour was incredible and really interesting, I could have stayed all day to our guide talking about Mary king’s close, the immersion in time was perfectly done. I honestly had a great time
Fabulous Experience
Didnt quite know quite what to expect, but what a very interesting, fabulous experience it was. Our guide Zelda made it feel such a real experience too, as though we were experiencing it first-hand! Thank you so much Zelda for such a fabulous experience.

Definitely recommend this place!
Our 200 year old tour guide Sam explained in fascinating detail the history of Mary King’s Close. His dry wit ensured that there was never a dull moment! Amazing to see and hear how people lived back then. Definitely recommend this place 😊

Well done Isaac and the team
How to embarrass the Irish customer service guy
Now, I was completely unbothered by the effect it had on me-l own my truth. But him? Oh, he was not ready. The moment I casually (and quite enthusiastically) pointed out how ridiculously sexy his voice was, the poor man turned redder than a sunset over the Cliffs of Dover. Flustered, stammering, suddenly very interested in shuffling brochures-adorable, really.
Meanwhile, I carried on with my day, fully enjoying both the historical sights and the memory of making a grown man question his entire career in customer service.
Would highly recommend-beautiful location, fascinating history, and if you're lucky, a front desk experience that's well worth the admission fee.
Fabulous history
This was our first visit on the 7th August our guide was brilliant such history beneath the royal mile and the stories told with plenty of drama and a wealth of knowledge would definitely recommend
Anabelle (our tour guide) was great
Anabelle (our tour guide) was great, really enjoyed the tour.
Had a wonderful guide this afternoon
Had a wonderful guide this afternoon - Fiona was part comedian, part historian, and a friend by the end. She really brought to life the realities of living in the 1600s, balancing the seriousness of the plague and the 'gardy loo' s with lightheartedness and warmth.
The tour was informative and fun and we want to bring all of our friends the next time we are in town. Highly recommended!
It was so interesting
It was so interesting, quide was very good! History & ghost stories were fab! I got cold chills in the child's room full of teddies even thought it was a hot day !
We got a view in the lives of the people centuries ago
We did this tour and enjoyed it very much.
Our guide Marcus was very passionate and funny. He was very knowledgeable.
It was a view back a couple of centuries ago, how the people lived in Mary King Close.
Very nice tour
Very nice tour! especially with Damian as a guide, who did a great job!
New plaque tour
Went tonight to new plaque tour with My 10 year old son, who absolutely loved it, the tour quide ArrOn who acted as Walter did so really well and was really engaging and done absolutely amazing for it being his first plaque tour. We didn't know you could take a toy to leave in room at end for all the children who lost their lives. We arrived early so walked around gift shop for 10mins.
Great Guide "Lauren" (aka Agnes Chambers)
We went to Mary King's Close on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Our guide Lauren (aka Agnes Chambers) was fantastic!
She told everything very clearly, almost theatrically..and with humor! She really holds the attention of the visitors...her storytelling style/manner keeps you captivated!
Really highly recommended!
We loved it!!!
