I felt that my usage was not close to what you said it was using thus my GB allowance was quickly depleted and wa asked to fill again, which i elected not to do, reception on the Island of Rhodes, was fair

It's likely that data saving mode wasn't enabled. This prevents data from being used in the background for application updates or synchronization.
