  1. Meat Products Supplier

Written by the company

It was in 2013 when a friend of mine invited me to come along with him on a deer stalking trip in the Yorkshire Dales. A local farmer had invited him to stalk 2 deers which were causing considerable damage to his crops. After searching for these deers for nearly two hours, these deers finally turned up on the farmers land, and within 15 minutes both were hunted down with precise shooting. My friend took 1 carcass and I took the other one home. After filling my freezer with some cuts and sharing some of the meat with my family and friends I still had some left. So, I had the remainder cooked by a catering company and served it at a local community meeting. A week later, I was inundated with phone calls from people from all over the country “Where can we buy Halal Venison or Haran Meat”.In 2012 I had seen a programme on TV, which showed how broiler chickens are commercially raised in warehouse like buildings, each packed with as many as 20,000 chickens. To reach the market weight within a quick time, how the birds have to be injected with chemicals on a regular basis so they grow very quickly. When I discussed this with a local scholar, and how this can be allowed in Islam, he explained to me this practice in words of wisdom which touched my heart. He said in the Quran, Allah instructs us to eat Halal and also Tayyab. Tayyab means animals are reared in a natural and ethical way. In the same way that we as human beings prefer to live a happy life, it is the right of every animal that it is also made to live a happy life. Today we are very much concerned about the “Halal” but very few people are concerned about the “Tayyab”. Then the scholar gave me an example that when a child is born, first Allah will develop the bone structure of the child, then Allah will develop the child with weight and height. However, these birds have not even developed their bone structure yet, and they are forced to develop all this meat on them within a short period of time. This is unnatural and unethical. These words of his left me emotionally scarred. Within a week I decided with a few friends of mine to start an online business retailing venison and free-range chickens. Halal Exotic Meats was incorporated on 16th May 2013, and we started our journey to source Halal venison and free-range organic chickens. Through the grace of Allah, we now have a network of farms in Yorkshire where we rear most of our products listed on our website.

Sorry to say we were so disappointed…

Sorry to say we were so disappointed with our turkey. We decided to try this company this year but sadly the turkey was just not a succulent as others that we have bought. The skin wasn't very strong and kept splitting when we were preparing it. It wasn't worth the high cost. Sadly we won't be purchasing again next year.

Quality service, quality meat

Came across pure gourmet trying to find high quality meat in general and chuck/brisket in specific. Found an email and contacted them to enquire, didn't really expect too much. However Bilal was extremely helpful from start to finish. I wanted 1kg, I live in the surrounding area and wanted to collect to avoid delivery fee. All of it was arranged by Bilal within a few hours.

Packaging was excellent, meat looks fresh, no smells.

Asked for it to be minced twice for burgers with 80/20 fat. Burgers came out great. Very fresh.

They did everything they could to accommodate my preferences.

Great for non-stun organic chicken

We bought non-stun organic chicken (legally pronounced: organically reared chicken) from there. There's this video on their website showing how these chickens roam freely and given organic feed. It isn't easy to find non-stun (HMC) organically reared chicken here in the UK but this company does provide us with the quality we're looking for.

We would appreciate an option to buy chicken drumsticks with the skin removed. Also, you might find it unusual that your order will be delivered 2-3 weeks later but we're patient people, we find quality here and I'm happy to wait. It might not work for you if you expect a delivery just this week.

We have contacted them twice. Once about whether it was possible to receive chicken drumsticks without skin (the answer was that they don't provide this; we instead manage with the "kitchen towel" technique to remove skins). The other time, to delay delivery to when we return from travel, and they did value our communications successfully postponed our delivery.

Have never had a bad experience with…

Have never had a bad experience with Pure Gourmet

Have been ordering from PG for 4 years. Very good quality meats. Have tried other suppliers but they don’t compare. Have just eaten 2 Angus fillet steaks from this company and they were superb, it’s the consistent high quality I really appreciate

I have bought from them once only

I have bought from them once only. Most of their stuff is permanently sold out. They sell their chicken carcasses at a very high price. They are definitely slow in responding to messages.

I ordered Qurbani for the first time

I ordered Qurbani for the first time. I was a fantastic experience, professionally cut, cleaned and packed meat. We just had to the package and distribute the meat. For cooking just cooked it. No cutting or cleaning required. Quality of meat was absolutely top class. Everyone loved it.
