Jayne provided a professional service that we cannot fault. She was informative and friendly and provided a calm environment for the frenulotomy to take place. She took her time and ensured that we were adequately informed about the procedure, the benefits and the risks, to ensure we were making the right decision for our child. Jayne performed the procedure quickly with no complications and provided support after with feeding. She also provided a check-in with us the following day.

Where to even start! My dream was a home birth in a pool for my first baby. Dark, warm, scents, cosy, music, peaceful, loving and a midwife I felt safe with. No strip lights, no beeping, no rushing, no white walls, no machines, no shift changes, no students, no pushy doctors, no pressure—basically, as far from a hospital or anything medical as can be.
Enter Emma Lawless! From my first email to Private Midwives they knew Emma was the midwife for me. We connected instantly and within minutes on the phone I knew Emma was the missing piece of the puzzle to making my home birth dream come true. And boy oh boy, she did not disappoint!
We saw Emma from 34 weeks at home. She is exceptional in her professional field, but to me, even more importantly, she made me feel seen and cared for every step of the way. A feeling that is rare in the NHS simply because they don't have the time, resources or capacity, and you never see the same midwife.
The relationship I built with Emma leading up to the birth was magical. I trusted her with mine and my baby’s lives—quite literally! She was the mum throughout all of this that I didn't have, and always dreamt of having. She is fearleslly protective but her professionalism never once wavered. She held that line between the personal and professional beautifully.
Fast forward to the birth! I was 41 weeks and 2 days by the time my son was born. It was the most agonizing 9 days of our lives going past the due date and my labour stopped and started for almost a week leading up to the big day. Emma was there checking in on me every step of the way. She was at the end of the phone when I needed her no matter the time of day. She told me the same things hundreds of times because my brain simply marshmallowed, but she not once made me feel stupid or like I was annoying her. She was just there. Wholly and fully. This woman loves her profession with her heart and soul like nothing I've ever experienced before!
Finally, my labour progresses and it’s time for Emma to come home. When she arrived I felt complete. Our home set up was simply perfect. With my husband and Emma right by my side, I felt invincible. I was ready. It was time to get in the pool and I looked up and both of them were right there with me. It was the best moment of my life. All my dreams were coming true. I began to push. Time passed and he just wasn't coming. He still wasn't coming. Emma began to plant the seed that we may need to look at going into the hospital soon. I was prepared for a change in direction as Emma had done an outstanding job of coaching me throughout pregnancy on how things may change during labour as babies are unpredictable.
We had to blue light to the hospital in the end. By this point, Emma had been at home with us since 10pm, it was now 6am. We were all exhausted but Emma continued to show up. I was in extreme pain and couldn't do it anymore. I was so done and I knew something was wrong.
We got to the hospital and I had to battle my way to being agreed for an emergency c-section. Emma fought for me when the doctors simply weren't listening. It was the worst moment of my life, but having Emma by my side, a professional I knew and trusted, meant I was safe.
Finally, I was booked in for a c-section almost 2 hours after arriving at the hospital and after the staff tried to push me into being induced against my wishes. In those two hours, despite it approaching 8am, Emma not once looked like she was waiting to go home or was fed up. She supported my husband in this window while I was just trying to survive on gas and air and not lose my mind completely. She was there for us both and she made the room feel lighter.
Finally, it was time for us to go to theatre, and to say goodbye to Emma. That was tough. Never in a million years did I think I'd be going for an emergency c-section, nor did I imagine Emma not being there the moment my baby came out. She embraced me for the final time, and the final look she gave me didn't need any words. It simply said “you’ve got this and I’ll be here when you get out”.
Our beautiful baby boy came, and nothing mattered anymore. The next few days were a whirlwind. I was coming down from the drugs, stress and euphoria of the birth and we had to stay in hospital. While Emma was no longer physically there, she was there in spirit. She kept checking in, kept encouraging us, kept holding us.
We had our first postpartum appointment at home. Seeing Emma again was bliss! Her getting to meet our baby, and having that reunion was pure joy. A few days later came our last appointment. A bitter sweet moment. For now, our journey had come to an end. After a very emotional goodbye, Emma drove away and it was time for us to start life as a new little family.
To anyone thinking about booking a Private Midwife, do it! Don't hesitate. And if you are lucky enough to partner with Emma, it'll be the best decision you ever make.

I am a 41 year old first time mom with many underlying health conditions. I was looking out for private care due to the lack of support from the NHS mid wives especially the first 20 weeks. I got in touch with private mid wives and Jo from the team was extremely helpful and tailored the package based on my needs. My mid wife was Fiona who has been absolutely fantastic and reassuring. She strengthened my confidence and became a member of our family. She was available 24/7 to answer my queries even when they were the most basic ones. I felt very reassured listening to my baby at every appointment and knowing that he is fine. Fiona helped me to manage my anxiety throughout my pregnancy. She was there at my elective C section and I would say that she being there made my delivery experience the best. The pre care and after care has been fantastic. I also used the post natal service and that has helped me to be more confident when dealing with our bundle of joy.
I also want to mention Amie who used to cover for Fiona when she was on holiday and I must say, Amie is brilliant. She has been part of our baby’s first bath, first hair cut and these are some important mile stones for us. Thanks Amie.
Once again a big thank you to Fiona for being my friend rather than a mid wife. Thanks for making this beautiful.
If ever private mid wives need any testimony or anything to promote them then I will be up for it as it’s all genuine first hand experience that I have felt.

We are so incredibly grateful to The Private Midwives and especially to Sally, who was absolutely fantastic! I reached out late on a Friday afternoon, and within just half an hour I had a response confirming that Sally could come the very next day to assess our little boy’s tongue tie.
From the moment she arrived, she put us completely at ease. She’s such a genuinely lovely and kind person—reassuring, professional, and so thoughtful. She took the time to explain everything clearly, from what the procedure would involve to what to expect afterwards. The care didn’t stop there—she’s continued to check in with us and has sent over lots of helpful resources and guidance.
We feel so lucky to have had someone as wonderful as Sally carry out the procedure. (A beautiful human being) Thank you so much for the incredible care and support—we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Amie through the NHS during our first pregnancy. Although that pregnancy sadly ended in a loss, Amie was a constant source of support, compassion, and reassurance. When we became pregnant again with our daughter, we were so grateful to have Amie by our side once more.
So, when we found out we were expecting our son, there was absolutely no hesitation—we reached out to Amie immediately. By that time, she had transitioned to working privately through Private Midwives, and we didn’t think twice about engaging her services.
Amie is with you through every step of the journey. She goes above and beyond what you’d expect from a midwife—responding to panicked late-night texts, offering unwavering emotional support, and always knowing when a warm hug is needed. Her knowledge, empathy, and calm presence make all the difference. She empowers you to trust yourself and have your own voice in the process, and she’ll fiercely advocate for the birth experience you want.
Thanks to Amie, I’ve had a truly amazing birth experience—one I will always cherish. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. She’s more than just a midwife; she’s someone who becomes part of your story. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her care, and even luckier to now call her a lifelong friend.

We recently had Sally as our midwife for the second time and once again, we are so glad we chose her! From our first appointment all the way through to our planned home birth, Sally supported us incredibly. Sally has a lovely way about her that makes you feel at ease, well informed, listened to and above all, safe in her care. I am not sure what we would have done without Sally!

We turned to private midwives after having a very poor experience with the NHS regarding my sons tongue tie. I was beyond grateful for the service we received from these lovely ladies. So efficient and thorough. The lady who came to see us was hayley and she was brill. I felt completely listened to and she was super friendly and put me at ease instantly. Jo was great too and so helpful arranging our appointment with Hayley. 10/10 would highly recommend.

We will forever be grateful for meeting Emma from Private Midwives and have her deliver our baby girl and help me achieve my HBAC.
I've only met Emma for the first time when my waters broke at 38 weeks and I can honestly say we connected straight away, it was almost like we've known each other for ages.
Emma is so calm, confident, reassuring, friendly and funny at the same time and always very professional. We discussed my birth plan and she listened and respected all my decisions.
She gave me great advice and helped me boost my confidence and positive energy. Emma just radiates positivity, she walks into your home and you instantly feel her good vibes.
When I went into labour, she arrived at our home promptly and I instantly felt safe and calm and baby was born shortly afterwards.
The whole experience of having a homebirth, a HBAC in my case, was extremely empowering and healing, after previously having 2 traumatic hospital births.
Postnataly, Emma continued to offer us her exceptional support, checking on me & baby at home and over the phone 24/7. I was looking forward to her sweet voice messages, which I know miss so much.
I honestly wish all women could have the amazing support and care Emma gave us during pregnancy, labour and birth.
I would also like to mention & say a massive thank you to Remi, who was our second midwife for our homebirth. She is such a lovely lady, I didn't actually see her arrive at our house during labour, but I could hear her sweet and calming voice talking to me between the surges. Remi and Emma make such a fantastic team, anyone can clearly see they both love and are passionate about their jobs.
I highly recommend Private Midwives, if you're looking for exceptional, holistic care for your pregnancy, birth & beyond, where you are listened to and have your wishes respected.

The tailored experience that fits to our keeps. Our midwife was so flexible and really listened to what we wanted our birth to look like.
This was my 2nd time using private midwives and each time it's been great.

My midwife was Alison and without her being who she is I wouldn't have been able to achieve the home birth I so longed for. Absolutely great experience, sadly this was my last baby but if it wasn't I would definitely request Alison to be my midwife again. Can't recommend her enough she made me feel safe, confident in my decisions and also validated in my feelings and what I wanted. The best pregnancy and birth I could've asked for after previous traumatic experiences with the NHS. Amazing thank you.

I cannot recommend Sally enough! She came to my rescue after we'd had a terrible time since the birth of my son with him having a tongue tie and no one listening to us. It only took 2 days for a rescue appointment which was amazing when I was crying out for help. I was a mummy on the edge!
More importantly not only did she find and reverse his tongue tie but she left me feeling as though I could do this, that I actually had someone in my corner rooting for me and left me feeling extremely empowered. She's also proved this keeping in contact with us weeks after the revision.
My son ended up in hospital a weeks after on something unrelated but I felt empowered to be mine and my sons advocate during our time in hospital as Sally took me from beaten down to a strong mama!
As I say, I couldn't recommend Sally enough and if we had our time again I'd definitely have her as my midwife not only for the tongue tie!

Corinne was our midwife, we couldn't recommend her and Private Midwives enough. We had the full package and really benefited from the home appointments with blood tests being done at home too. I’ve always struggled with being difficult to give blood so having it done in a more relaxed setting helped. Corinne was very knowledgable and always at the end of the phone to answer any questions which meant I felt less worried by minor things through my pregnancy as I’d just ask if I wasn’t sure on anything. I don’t know what we would’ve have done without Corinne after our baby boy arrived. She guided us through every day tasks and filled us with confidence on how to do certain tasks like bathing. It’s safe to say Corinne is now part of the family.
If I was to have any further children I’d be using the service again.

I completed an enquiry form and the following day Sally came to my house and assessed my daughter for a tongue tie. Sally was able to assess and cut my Daughters tongue tie, whilst also reassuring me, which was needed as I cried when she confirmed the tongue tie! Sally has been able to answer any questions or worries I had and has really helped to put my mind at ease.
I would highly recommend private midwives and Sally for tongue tie!

Having Bev and Keri as my midwives made my home-birth experience so amazing! From the very first appointment I felt heard and listened to. Which was far from the case for my first two births. It was my first Homebirth as the births of my previous children had been in a hospital and birth centre. And I was at first unsure if I would go through with the home-birth. But after meeting Bev and Keri I knew right away that this was what I wanted. The two of them make such a great team and you can see how organically them work together and complement each other. I looked forward to each appointment to see them and update them rather than feeling as it was a chore. They always brought such a positive energy and vibe when they entered a room. They allowed me to feel comfortable with them and I talked to them as I would talk to friends rather than feeling as if it was strictly about getting through an appointment. I never felt as though they were rushing and they always were very pleasant and attentive. I also loved having the reassurance of being able to message them at anytime if I needed, and they were always quick to respond.
My other two boys had come at 37 weeks so they were checking to make sure I was okay and how everything was very often as soon as I hit 37 weeks. Although my son decided to surprise us and come 2 days after his due date.
They were quick to come and were prepared as soon as I messaged them of being in labour. And having them around made me feel more confident and empowered through the whole labour and birthing process. They were great in all aspects and encouraged me along the way. And honestly made this my favourite birthing experience. I couldn’t be more grateful for the two of them, and will highly recommend them to anyone considering a home-birth! Also was an added bonus that Bev took photos and videos during the labour so my husband could fully focus on me and put together the sweetest video of the birth! Thank you Bev & Keri!

Our private midwife experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We can’t put into words how grateful we are for the private midwives Bev and Keri. From meeting them at around 36 weeks to delivering our beautiful baby boy at 37weeks+3. Every wish we had regarding Labour they truly delivered, no questions asked. After being very lucky and having my labour go exactly to plan, Bev and Keri captured moments that we easily miss while delivering. We get to look back at these moments for the rest of our lives and I cannot thank them enough for that.
It’s so sad saying goodbye to you both, we will hand on heart miss you both very much. The love and care you have shown me and my family has been amazing and it’s definitely an experience we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Private Midwife Experience as part of Sunderland’s lack of Homebirth service.
So I was transferred over to the private Midwife care at 35 weeks following me having to do a gestational diabetes fingerprint test for one week to prove that I didn’t have gestational diabetes before they would transfer me over to Private Midwives.
At 35 weeks I had Private Midwife Aimee come out to my home and do a booking visit similar to what you would do at the NHS at eight weeks. She spent quite a long time at my home and we went through everything thoroughly looking at my previous births and some trauma that I had been through. Listened in to baby and measured and all was good.
She was really lovely, very thoughtful and attentive to my care and very responsive on text.
The following week at 36 weeks I had Private Midwife Hannah come out to my home, she again was very nice and gave off encouraging and positive vibes. She checked babies heart rate and my blood pressure and also took some bloods and was very responsive on text messages. We also briefly spoke about some trauma id experienced as it was in my notes.
At 37 weeks I had Private Midwife Tricia come out to my home. we didn’t get off to a good start and overall I wasn’t happy that she was going to be the midwife that was going to come out to me in labour and felt really uncomfortable but because I wasn’t paying for the service I was unsure if I could swap over. I’m mulled over it for 24 hours and decided to ring the Private Midwives main office to ask if I could switch which I found out was no problem!
At 38 weeks, I had two Midwives called Bev and Keri -who always work as a duo- attend my home.
The communication before them visiting had been brilliant as we had had a lengthy phone discussion and they were both really bubbly and happy when entering my home!
I had previously prepped them about my previous trauma on a text so that they were aware.
They set up a group WhatsApp chat for all four of us and basically said we could message them at any point during the day or night!
This was great as it involved all of us straight away and we got to chat and have a little bit of banter before the main event!
The care I received off both Bev & Keri was incredible. Their knowledge is impeccable and they have a very empowering nature about them. I instantly felt reassured that I could have my desired Homebirth.
Their aftercare has also been very attentive and thorough. I cannot fault these ladies at all and thanks to them and my partner I was able to have the most amazing Homebirth experience.
If you’re looking for two fabulous midwives then I’d definitely recommend Bev & Keri!!

Following the loss of our daughter prematurely in 2022 and several difficult experiences with NHS maternity services, we decided to look into independent midwifery support.
This is probably the best decision we made! From 20 weeks into my pregnancy we were lucky enough to be assigned to Emma Lawless for ongoing support and care.
As expected, we had a lot of anxiety from the very start of our pregnancy. From the very first contact, up until our last appointment with Emma, she listened to our concerns and provided us with the information and advice that we needed.
We appreciated being able to have regular appointments at our home which fitted around both mine and my partner's schedule. Unlike NHS midwifery appointments, Emma provided holistic care which included my partner within the process as well. In between appointments Emma was also available by phone if we had any questions or worries.
Emma's guidance and support helped me to stay calm and positive despite being a high risk pregnancy. Most importantly she provided me with information which allowed me to make informed decisions about how I wanted my care to be managed by all health care providers. She also gave me reassurance that I could still have the positive birth experience that I wanted despite the risks in my pregnancy.
I'm happy to say that at the end of November 2024 we welcomed our little boy at UCLH with the enthusiastic support of Emma. She kept our spirits up and with her there we knew that everything was going to be okay.
She continued to provide us with postpartum care which was particularly helpful when I was struggling to get baby to latch during feeding. With her suggestions and advice we managed to get there in the end!
Before working with Emma, I was really struggling to trust myself, my body and health care professionals. Her non-judgemental approach and caring nature helped me to regain some of that trust.
At the end of each appointment she would excitedly remind us- "We're having a baby!!". At the start of my journey I still didn't believe this would happen. But by the end of my pregnancy I had begun to believe it and I'm happy to say she was right! With her support we now have a healthy and happy little baby boy and we will forever be grateful for her support.
