At Primal we are passionate about the outdoors and would love to share our knowledge of bushcraft and survival skills with you. We believe it’s best to have a few survival skills in your back pocket so you don’t get caught out when you need them most. Like our primal ancestors of old, living off the land and utilising skills to live in harmony with our surroundings was a natural way of life. In today’s fast paced environment we are dependent on technology more and more and have lost touch with our Primal Instincts and Hunter-Gatherer skills. So let’s get outdoors, as there’s no better way to learn than by doing.

A really inspiring and heart warming day in amongst the trees. Very practical and informative in a fun and relaxed way by both instructors. We gathered around the fire pit with a cup of tea, learnt knife skills, made fire 🔥 (well some of us) and had a go at building shelters. Thank you for a great day out! Info bits if booking; The kettle was on all day and the snacks and food provided were exactly what you wanted on a chilly autumn day in Scotland (soup, sandwiches, biscuits, fruit). If you like something a bit different to drink take your own teabags. Toilets are a short walk away and car parking is almost immediately accessible to the bushcraft site (a £3.50 charge for parking for the day). It’s well organised, well run and I would recommend and will probably return.

Amazing unexpected day out. I booked a 1 day bushcraft for my husband and myself as a birthday present. I am not an outdoor person generally. Saying that I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would recommend it to anyone of all ages. Our (Viking) instructor Stu, was really knowledgeable and patient. We learned how to, and created our own shelter's from what we could find in the woods. How to start a fire and keep it going. We made our own butter knives from wood and learned all about the flowers, trees and weeds that can be used for food, water, fuel and glue. I felt a sense of achievement from taking part and will be looking into the 2 day course next year. We had a hearty tasty soup for lunch and as much tea and coffee we wanted. I also made a friend with the other lady participant and it was great to share the experience with another female.

This is our third booking with Primal - just my 7 year old and I. We’ve always had a great time. We did the skills weekend this time and Craig and Stu were brilliant - particularly Stu with my boy. Looking at what we can book next

We attended the bushcraft introduction day. The day was packed full of hands on experiences, well taught with extremely knowledgeable instructors that made for a great day out. Now to choose the next course!.
Loads of fun, and I learned a lot. The instructors were very knowledgeable. Would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get away from the busy city life and learn skills for when the zombie apocalypse comes.
Excellent weekend. Matt and Luke delivered an incredibly fun and informative weekend and I loved every minute. Only down side was wishing there was more time! The facilities and equipment were excellent and Matt and Luke really were outstanding instructors! Thank you guys!
The biggest thing that made this experience great were our instructors Luke and Matt with years of experience and knowledge.
These guys made the experience very comfortable and the time flew by!
I don't want to give away too much but we covered a lot of things you would expect (fire, sourcing and purifying water, knife skills, shelter building)
And some very useful things you wouldn't expect (identifying plants and trees, what's edible in nature, navigation )
In the final task we done a group activity and it was honestly so much fun.
Luke took a dive into the loch for the team as well, I thought that was worth mentioning lol
I'll definitely be looking into booking another course with primal bushcraft hopefully sooner than later
17th 18th century Highland servial weekend was great with experienced experts in there different crafts as well as location + every one dressed in the period made the weekend one of the best experiences I will remember.
I wasn’t particularly interested in the Bush Survival Course, I was just accompanying someone who wanted to go.That changed upon meeting the two, very likeable Instructors, Matt and Luke, their enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge was impressive. The course was well structured and the day flowed well as I learned the Principles of survival, what’s most important etc, Knife skills, making useful implements, Fire lighting methods, how to signal for help/how to hide a fire, Fire management, Shelter building, I now look at trees and plants differently, considering how they can be used for shelter, now knowing what plant can be picked up like a carpet to make a shelter or a bed, outdoor cooking (yum), Water sourcing and purification, We learned to Identify Flora & Fauna and soon realised that Luke likes his plant teas, I know which plant can be used in first aid and it contains iodine, very useful and which plants are toxic. Navigation. A lot learned in one day but very enjoyable and skills that I’m glad I now have
I have participated with my 11 year old son in the 'primal skills day'. It was a great experience. The instructors were very experienced, knew a lot and their enthusiasm really made this a truly magnificent day!
Fantastic day with Matt and Luke from Primal Bushcraft. We had a private booking with six family members and enjoyed learning skills from making shelters to starting a fire. Had a good lunch and plenty of hot beverages throughout the day. Matt and Luke were both helpful, knowledgable and good fun. We all had a great day with lots to talk about and new skills learnt. Great job team primal.
Excellent introduction to bushcraft skills including firemaking and how to collect suitable kindling, foraging walk, making a cool rope from nettle, how to filter water and how to build shelters. Definitely worth doing and Luke and Matt are both very knowledgeable about many different methods of doing each skill and are friendly to talk to. Excellent

This was a birthday present for my friend and I decided to come along. Best decision of my life. It was a great day out with a lot of things to be learned. Both Matt and Luke were fantastic instructors and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you for the good time!

I’m just back from an amazing weekend with Primal and experienced the whole Castaway and Survival experience. What an incredible weekend, I didn’t want to leave, building our signal fire to call the Rib boat to take us home was bittersweet!
As a female wannabe solo wild camper I needed this badly to give me the confidence and the ability to be safe, knowledgable and an intrepid explorer, oh and also, I’ve never been to Scotland (what a mistake, I’ll be back).
Matt & Luke had everything at hand, I had far too much kit and now I can lose pretty much everything for my next adventure. I can now make shelter and comfortably sleep in it staying dry and safe, I can build fires from what’s around me, I can forage and identify trees, shrubs and food sources, I can find water and safely filter it. I loved the knife skills session, making rope from stinging nettles and have a fab takeaway bracelet (essential in all survival situations) :)
On the last night I had the opportunity to truly wild-camp with just my sleeping bag for company on the roof of a 16th Century castle, the sun rise was spectacular!
Thank you both, wonderful food, fantastic company, lots of laughs and for sharing your expert knowledge. I’ll be back and so will everyone of the “family” we became over the weekend. Top adventure, I’m planning my next trip to put everything into practice (obviously with the rest of the Girlpower Castaway group, like I said, we’re now wild family).

Had an incredible team-building day in Edinburgh with the Bushcraft team. Each member enthusiastically shared their skills and experience in a really engaging way. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, would recommend!

We went on a team building event with work to Irvine, the hotel for the initial day and the Bushcraft day were all arranged via Matt and the team at Primal making it really easy with great facilities.
We are a mixed bunch with several ex military types and those with zero outdoor experience but the Bushcraft experience was pitched perfectly for everyone to learn something and enjoy. One of, if not the best and most fun team building event I’ve been on.
The climax being a challenging abseil that even the most nervous were helped to overcome without pressure, due to the cool and calm nature of the instructors.
A thoroughly enjoyable and well run experience, highly recommended regardless of experience.

Superb day out of the office with the team. All of the Primal Bushcraft's team enthusiasm shone through! From knife skills to fire starting, this was a fantastic few hours where knowledge on survival was shared. Really great bunch and would love to do another course with them. Keep up the great work!

Fantastic day of team building fun. Not sure I am quite ready to brave the wilds but certainly much more educated about what is required in a survival scenario. The team were all brilliant at explaining what is important in a survival situation (spoiler alert it is not always what you hear about in the films). The instructors were all experts in their field and very engaging, interesting and had a wealth of interesting stories about their experience in the field.

We wanted to organise something a little bit different for our employees, especially after so many virtual events! Matt and the team were brilliant, they helped us tailor an event around our requirements and our budget, and helped make sure it was all covid-safe. We had a brilliant day out!
