Unprofessional, manipulative money grabbers

We played at powerplay for 4+ years, turning up every single week and paying every single week. Most weeks, we actually paid more and had it as a buffer in case one week somebody couldn't pay. Towards the end, there were a few occasions where we were a couple quid too low and eventually worked up a massive debt of around £20...something that can easily be sorted, and an amount that we fairly owed.

Throughout our 4 years, we turned up to several games where we had a no-show, and from speaking to the other teams, they never got punished or asked to pay double. Then, the one time we couldn't play, we warned them 2 days prior, we got charged a double match fee which was around £60 (+£20ish we owed anyway) racking up to around £80. I contacted them, as we warned them in advance and there's not much you can do when you have players on holiday, injured and ill. They replied saying they would half the fee so we were happy with that... We slowly worked the debt down.

Around 3 months ago, we asked to leave the league because we had many players starting jobs and uni so they didn't have time - we struggled to have a team every week, so debt would just build up. We contacted them before the season began, and before we signed any paperwork to confirm our entry, and they refused to let us leave and threatened to charge us every week if we didn't turn up.

We fell for this pathetic, unprofessional threat and turned up to all the games, borrowing players week in week out. Eventually, they round a team to replace us. Then, they emailed us saying we owed £80, a figure which should be £50 as they promised to half the fee of the game we missed. I told the lads that we owed this money and that we should get it paid off, whether it's right or wrong, it's not worth it. I emailed back asking how to proceed and I didn't hear a reply for around 2 months.

With no communication or warning, I received a letter in the post saying that we owed £96 and had a month to pay otherwise legal action would be taken. I rung up, and they said the fees are correct (their numbers didn't add up) and the excess was an administration fee.

On top of that, I'm 21...we've been playing for 4 years which means I've been signing the contracts since I was 17, even though they state you have to be 18. Very thorough with their checks...

That's my story with this unprofessional, manipulative, money grabbing company. They don't care about their teams, whether they have been there for a week or 4 years.

The only positive is that the ref's are usually good, sound and actually helped me when leaving the league. On the surface, it seems all good and well but behind the scenes, this company is a pile of trash.

Recommend to stay well away from these.

Don't ever play or you will PAY... cowboys.

We have been playing under The Elms (for 13 years) and they were taken over by Power Play. At first we felt they were organised but actually they just want your money! The football rolls over and we signed up for yet another season. Not to be told that only four teams would be in the league. I decided to ring them and someone said "it's so you can play football mate". Thanks very much! We decided to leave, especially after 2 no shows and no apology from the league, especially when one week the refs didn't show. Full paid up (we thought) we went elsewhere after 13 years of loyalty only to get a crappy email saying we owed nearly £300. Our captain chatted to myself and another member and before we had time to even reply we got a further email saying they were handing the matter over to a debt collection agency. Utterly disgraceful.

Utterly disgraceful organisation

Utterly disgraceful organisation! We ourselves have been faced with multiple no shows which we were often forced to pay towards the pitch fee while getting a friendly in return but this never happened. No one replies to emails or text to the company but when they want fine you and force you to stay apart of the league until the new season there right there harassing you constantly. They gave us 4 incorrect invoices to our fine triple charging us what we owed. The league is a complete lie through and through and the only consideration is to raking in as much funding as possible not the football experience you recieve. The website claimed we would recieve free kits which never happened, that league managers would potential care take your team whilst your away when they don’t even reply through any medium. Then once you do get a response they may claim they are sorting the problems you have but nothing comes of it. Stay clear from this organisation, even if there is no alternative in your area.

This is a company ran by conmen

This is a company ran by conmen. Do not go near them. I only expressed interest in playing.. I replied ‘join’ to one of there generic texts, but heard nothing back. Next thing I know they have sent me an invoice for over £300. I ignored it, then I was contacted by a debt collector asking for £84.
The funny thing is, had they contacted me, or even just given a time to play football... I would have played and paid. But they are more interested in trying to trap you and force money out of you.
I haven’t actually played football with them, but judging by the reviews on here and on facebook, it’s totally not worth anyone going near them. I hope they are quickly put out of business. Pure scum.

No stars.

If only you could rate them no stars.....

Worst company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. No-one answers the phone. When they do they tell you what you want to hear then never actually action it. Had to chase refunds that never arrive, They took money from my card that I didn't authorise. They don't care if opposition don't turn up and don't inform you. They put prices up and game time down every season. They underpay the refs. The footballs are s***. They say "laters" and call you "mate" when you're trying to make a complaint. The organisation is a complete joke.

If only they had some competition in our area they would be out of business....

Terrible company

Terrible company. Have been chasing a refund of £120 for two months and Simon Willoughby has been lying to me saying it is being handled.

After our team dropped out there was a credit balance of £120 on our account but before I could withdraw that they closed my online account. This made it impossible for me to check the balance or withdraw it.

This company funds itself through theft it would seem.

Don't give them your card details, only ever pay cash as they take more money than there are games.

I ran a team in the Powerplay Brighton …

I ran a team in the Powerplay Brighton league for almost 2 years, however due to eventually having players who could not turn up and commit and the death of my father it was no longer something i could be dealing with so I folded the team.
However upon speaking to Powerplay they informed me that despite being a paying customer for almost 2 years i would be charged full price every game untill the end of the season (11 games) and with no team mates to support I have been left with a 400 quid hole in my pocket.
I found the customer service to be lacking too that in dealing with this matter 0 empathy was shown and no effort to see the issue from my side was made.
This has all left a sour taste in the mouth and despite running multiple teams in the past this latest team will be my last after what i have encountered.

Powerplay and Netball make a great team!!!!

I honestly believe that netball is a great team sport where every person on the netball court are like cogs on a wheel - where each and every player is important to the playing and enjoyment of the game. I commend Powerplay in their efforts to foster and encourage the growth of the game of netball. As a lot of the "gentlemen" have realised, it takes a lot of skill!!!!

Playing in the Brixton league is definitely the best thing about Mondays!

I really enjoy my Monday Netball matches in Brixton. The Ferndale Sports Centre is really close to the station so it's a perfect location to get to after work. It's a fantastic atmosphere; the teams in the league are great and the umpires are always friendly and on hand with helpful coaching tips. I now look forward to Mondays :-)

Fun, friendly and competitive

I am really enjoying playing for PowerPlay, the games are just long enough to give me a good work out, the games are friendly but competitive and it's a great way to catch up with friends, have fun and keep fit.

Great league but not as good as it was.

I've been playing in the Brixton League for over 2 years now and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. However the standard of management is not quite as good as it was.
We used to get emails every Tuesday, informing us of the results and the league table which seems to have stopped since John from Top Corner Left. I also used to get emails regularly, of new players looking to join a tea, mid-season. This has also stopped and our team numbers has fallen as a result, which means we are regularly short of a full team each week. I have had trouble recruiting independently,
John would also help out each week if we were short of players and ring around the other teams to assist in finding us a sub. Again this no longer happens.
Finally I no longer have a personalised mobile number to call if the weather is bad, to establish if the game is still on. John used to give us his mobile number and I could call as a result. However now we are only given an 0800 number which goes straight to answering machine when ever I call. I have to rely on email.
Lastly, the website isn't as easy to use as the Top Corner one was. We used to be sent a link each week which automatically directed you to the fixture times for your team, this has stopped as well. I can still establish fixture times but it takes longer as you have to scroll onto Brixton and Netball which is difficult on an iphone.
Having said all that, the girls and I really enjoy playing every week. We would also appreciate being made aware of any up-coming netball tournaments in the local area, this is something the girls and I have talked about on numerous occassions. However we have found it hard to find ourselves and thought maybe this is something that Power Play could assist with and promote more.
We look forward to the coming season.

Hi Tessa,

Thanks for you feedback, we've made some recent changes to enable us to improve and broaden the services we can offer.

We have now developed a new feature called Player Match that allows you to find players through our website, you simply leave a notice and you get an email back with a list of players details who fit your requirements. Give it a go here:

http://powerplay.co.uk/players/powersay/player-match?id_sports_type=2&id_league=#form-start

We have also added an IOS and Android apps that allow you to log into and find your fixtures immediately, especially when you are on the move. If you are browsing our site you can always type 'Brixton' into the search bar and it'll take you straight to your league.

We intend to share more information on tournaments so keep an eye on our social media for updates as to what is happening locally.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts.
