Yeah, Power Athlete is That Good.
I don't write reviews. Ever. Heck, I don't even write reviews to get free stuff or discount codes... Neither of which PA gives for reviews soo focus up.
I've been following PA programming off and on for years. I get tempted by a shiny thing, discover it's a shiny piece of sh*t, and come back to PA.
A unique thing to PA is the discord. A literal smorgasbord of coaches and fellow athletes (and the big guy himself!) answering questions.
I had some questions, got linked up with Ben S. and after a 1:1 consult with him, I came away with personalized actionable items and a sense that I could truly make noticeable progress towards my specific goals. No fluff, no smoke blowing, and no cookie cutter BS nutrition template you might get somewhere else.
Suffice it to say, if you're not training with Power Athlete, you're wrong.
Nutrition Consult
I worked with Ben Skutnik during his previous stint at PAHQ in 2018. Hit him up again for a nutrition consult when I saw he was back, and I'm glad I did. I found Ben to be more knowledgeable and well-versed in nutrition than previous coaches. He offered common sense, easy to implement diet and supplement changes to help with my situation. Definitely glad Ben is back at Power Athlete
Great Strength and Conditioning Program
Very effective and simple programming.
The attention to detail.
Field Strong/Jacked Street
Started with Field Strong, did that for a year. Got in the best shape of my life at 40. Wanted to add some muscle, did Jacked Street. Finishing my 1rst 6 week block of Jacked Street. At 41, I’ve gained 6-7 lbs of muscle, my legs are impossible to grow, they are growing. My Deadlift max went from 395 for 1 to 395 for 4 (Lifetime PR), I’m getting closer to benching 300lbs. People think I look “big” at 6ft4 188lbs. I’ve done lots of “hard” programs in the past with other coaches. But the difference with Coach John and Power Athlete is simple. It’s results.
Dragon slayer
I am active duty army, and have been using dragon slayer for my BJJ growth. I had no idea how much it would improve my ACFT, but over the year I have seen significant growth and increased athletic performance. I recommend power athlete to anyone that’ll listen thank yall
Hello my old friend athleticism
Hello my old friend athleticism. Program hoping and chasing decade old PR's led to a host of strains and pains. Following Bedrock gives me a healthy dose of weight progression and exercise variety while bringing sprinting back to my program. Bedrock is saving me from a "washed-up" title. Well done PA team.
Variety Programming
I've been on several Power Athlete programs in the past. Grindstone, Field Strong, HAMR, but so far Jacked Street has been the best for me. As a 46-year-old dad, I want to stay strong and athletic, but also look like I could "be the hammer" if necessary!! The genius of Power Athlete is that all the programs tailor to whatever you want to do! You want to keep working on athleticism, do Field Strong. You want to get strong and jacked, but have limited time, do Grindstone. I'm proud and honored to be a member of the Power Athlete family! Thank you for the great and well written programming!
DBAB, purchase the programming
First off, I want to start by saying that I love Power Athlete HQ and their programming. If you’re serious about training and want to take your lifting to the next level, read through each programming to decide which works the best for your lifestyle and goals, and choose a program that fits it. There are plenty to choose from. I’ve ran HAMR off and on for years, but started when John ran CrossFit Football. HAMR is no nonsense training and allowed me to smoke at 16:50 5K run while hitting fat numbers in the gym. I run Jacked Street now for hypertrophy work. My wife hits Grindstone since she teaches yoga 3x a week. This allows her to gain and maintain strength, aesthetics, and tethers directly to abilities required on the mat.
The only thing I would recommend, and it’s something I’ve seen in other programming is: say PAHQ programs use Rogue bands, they program banded exercise; in the exercise notes placing the brand/color/resistance weight there. I personally use EliteFTS bands and the ones I have don’t go up to what Rogues do, so there is some experimentation involved.
Other than that, you dude pack a punch with the training methodology! Keep at it!
New Dad Making Gains
Best programming that I’ve found on the internet. I’m a new father but an experienced lifter. I picked Grindstone because of the flexibility. With two mandatory days and occasionally getting in one extra workout, I’m feeling more fit than I was doing another program 5d per week before my son was born. Wish I started sooner.
The Power Athlete system is legit
The Power Athlete system is legit, it gets real results. Pairing their programming with nutrition planning puts you in the best possible position to meet your goals. There is no fluff or BS, just proven methods to developing athleticism, getting strong, and dialing in your nutrition. Working with the Nutrition Coaches built my knowledge, fostered personal accountability, and helped me achieve the results I was aiming for, full stop.
On my grind
35M with 6 and 2 year olds. I’m a PA, wife is an ER doc. Time is at a premium for us. Grindstone is excellent programming for my situation. I’m making massive gains in my main lifts and having fun doing it. It beats me up but not to the point where I don’t progress or can’t function.
Loving it!
Awesome programming (I use Johnny WOD). Train Heroic app is fantastic.

Best training out there
Been following Power Athlete for years, but fell off the train during Covid. After getting a bad case of Covid in 2021 I've used Grindstone to get back to life and get in a physical state I have not been in years. Can't recommend the Power Athlete training enough.
New Parent on the Grind
Long time PA follower, new to the Grind. Followed JWOD for ~7 years before work and life duties picked up. New dad, new duties as a professor and researcher, and a current commitment to BJJ. Grindstone has been the best program that is flexible and works with my life but continues to drive adaptations. Love that it’s kind of choose your own adventure program - muscle growth or strength or conditioning - doesn’t matter. It can work with whatever schedule you bring and comes with access to the PA community. Perfect for the new parent, college student, or business mom or dad.
Been using power athlete for two years
Been using power athlete for two years. Trained hamr, grindstone, jacked street, and Johnnie wod. Have liked all the programs and recommend them to anyone that is looking for a solid training program.
The best you can get
Power Athlete puts out the best strength and conditioning coaching you can get. I used it last year as a structured program to try to recover my strength following cancer treatment. I couldn't lift an empty bar, and now I'm back squatting 100kg! I did Lean and Able, Bedrock and now Grindstone, and there was always a great balance between never feeling out of your depth and always having a fresh challenge. Love it!
