Pickup Music is by far the best platform to learn guitar and music theory more generally I came across. I took over 5 years of classes at a music school, and pickup is by far much more fun, engagi... See more

Structured learning with efficient progress
I learn better with structure so that I don't second guess the things I might be missing or ignoring. This pathway does exactly what I need and has helped me progress faster in one month than in the past 8 years of noodling.
I’m loving music up
I’m loving music up! I feel like I’m making actual progression of not only learning to play but understanding why. It’s a great tool for any beginner!
Beginner pathway
Step by step instructions and pathways enabled me to focus on one area as opposed to not knowing each day what to practice on my own. The structure, view point, and lessons helped me tighten up areas I was working on but had done improperly in some areas. Time of lessons is great and allows me to do as much or as little as I can for that day.
Pickup Music is helping me learn guitar…
Pickup Music is helping me learn guitar at my own pace, giving me the chance to review lessons as many times as I need and work on my progress consistently. The platform provides clear, detailed explanations, both in videos and graphics, making it easier to understand and improve. I love how they break things down in a way that actually makes sense, so I never feel lost. For me, the fact that I stopped playing guitar years ago doesn’t mean I can’t start again, and Pickup Music is making that possible. It’s reassuring to know I can take my time and still make real progress.
CAGED with Molly Miller
I learned about Pickup Music via Molly Miller. And I was thrilled to see her there as an educator. The CAGED pathway is the best everyone can pick to become familiar with the neck. Molly makes it easy to stay focused without loosing fun. My best choice ever.

I like that the approach to learning the CAGED system is very structured and at the same time good fun 😊

I really enjoyed the breakdown of the parts and the sample solos to play along with, especially the musical feedback
I learnt to play intuitively …
I learnt to play intuitively and I consider the sound of my playing beyond late beginner. I'm pleased to return to this foundational knowledge and strengthen my playing in what I missed doing it my way. When I play songs I've written and played for a long time after the late beginner exercises I feel more freedom and expression within the written structure.
Excellent curriculum for late beginners who are flailing!
I'm a fairly new guitarist, who is also an experienced educator with 30 years of designing curriculum and observing learners. I want to say how impressed I am with the pedagogical choices made in setting up this program. So thoughtful. I haven't seen a learning program this good for guitar at a fairly basic level, and yet it feels like it could meet my needs for a long time-- I can see there's a lot in there that I'm not ready for yet.
The videos have a lovely tone, as though the teacher is listening to you and giving you space to play.
I love how the tabs are synced to the video. So easy to use.
New skills are broken down into little bites and then built up clearly, and there's some deliberate review on a regular basis, but not too much. The learning pathways are carefully put together, so that the teacher leads you from point a to point b so well.
It's fantastic that there are homemade backing tracks to support the lessons, instead of creating lessons that match existing songs. That allows the sequence of the whole thing to be very deliberate.
Personalized feedback on a recorded lesson is incredibly valuable. I felt like I got my money's worth for a year of membership after 2 video feedback sessions. The teachers who reviewed my work were so positive with me, giving specific compliments so I didn't feel too vulnerable. Then they added a couple of very helpful nuggets of information to help me take my playing to the next level. I could not recommend it more!
Should have signed up way sooner!
Wanted to pick up the guitar again after years of not playing and needed some structure into my playing and practicing. Oh, I wish I signed up earlier because I'm loving it! The pathways provide a structured way of going through the material and repeating it. Real pro's give feedback on my performance videos. I'm going to be stuck in here for years to come!
I was skeptical at first...
I was skeptical at first, as I have only had good learning experiences with in-person lessons, so I wasn't sure how an online course would go. I'm entirely self-taught, so the course helped me get back to basics and fix some bad habits I had picked up. Anytime I have a question about the course, someone is quick to reply and the community is great. I really enjoy the feedback options, as I'm able to have someone review my playing and give me honest tips. This was something I was concerned about, however feedback always comes back in a timely manner and was helpful for moving forward with course progress. I'm a fan of the way the course is layed out as well, constantly bringing in new skills and reviewing old ones. The wording and lessons are also well-written; easy to read but not too dumbed down. Overall I'm very happy with my experience with Pickup Music.
The Beginner Pathway series of lessons…
The Beginner Pathway series of lessons on the Pickup Music website is great for people with little to no skills in playing the guitar. The instructor (I forget his name) recorded a lesson that builds skills while not hurrying. I think it's great that they include the jam track with each lesson so that you can practice, practice, practice. Money will spent.
Very good course
Very good course. Very thorough and easy to follow. It really unlocked the fretboard for me. I struggled for years.
I'm really enjoying learning with…
I'm really enjoying learning with Pickup Music so far and it's working very well for me as a platform to grow my skills as a guitarist and keep me inspired. Especially the personal feedback is great. So far I completed the CAGED I Pathway, wich was extremely well build, super helpful and very fun. I am currently going through the Jazz Pathway with Cecil and this one is definitely more demanding. At some point the progression feels a bit abrup, so you really have to take things a bit slower. But the great thing is, you can always go back and review stuff from earlier exercises. All in all great platform, I would definetely recommend
I have spent a lifetime playing around…
I have spent a lifetime playing around on the guitar. I have always known how to play a couple dozen songs and known a few scales. I finally decided that I really wanted to learn how to play for real. So far, Pickup Music has been amazing. I started at the very beginning to make sure I didn't miss anything. I am just finishing the 6th grade of "Beginner" and I'm already able to randomly string together cords at will that sound amazing. I can't wait to continue this journey. I set aside 30 to 40 minutes a day to take lessons and practice. Very satisfying and a great way to learn!
Pickup Music review from an older student
I am an older learner and I wasn't sure at first whether to join Pickup Music, as I have previously used other well known online companies and found that I struggled with the structure of their lessons and the speed they moved forward. This made learning a chore and so I quickly gave up.
However, the learning paths on Pickup Music are very clear and structured and a lot of fun. After every lesson I feel I have learnt something new and love the experience of playing along with the tutor videos and the band at the end of each section.
I really enjoy the free weekly master classes as I find them interesting and informative, even though some are currently above my level.
There is plenty of resources on the site for learning for all levels and I am enjoying my journey with this new hobby. I haven't done any challenges as yet but they are available if it is something you like to participate in.
To sum it up I am having a wonderful experience as a new learner.
Pickup music is an excellent resource…
Pickup music is an excellent resource for learning guitar. I initially saw a snippet of the CAGED pathway with Molly Miller on Facebook and thought it looked really good, and so then I took the trial to look around.
The overall vibe of the lessons is nice and relaxed with small bite size lesson chunks that you can dip into when you are ready.
At the end of each grade you can submit a video performance and get feedback from a pro guitarist. This is really useful as just making a video gets you to see things that need correcting, but sometimes this bit drives me mad trying to get a good take - but it’s worth it.
Overall It’s fun and engaging way to learn guitar, will you be next?

Love the step by step approach which forces you to slow things down and truly get the muscle memory going.
I however feel the workouts portion are a bit too quick compared to what was learned in a week.
Great learning platform
I really love that there are guided pathways based on my skill level. The music/backing tracks are good and the teachers are friendly and very encouraging! Carl is great! I love that every day I’m learning something AND playing something new. I’m confident I’ll be able to get out of the Campfire Chord Purgatory I find myself in by going through all the pathways and learning about the CAGED system.
Love the structure
Love the structure. Charts are great. Good instruction. The performance review was helpful. I feel like I'm building and connecting knowledge rather than learning piecemeal. One potential frustration. Not sure why intermediate pathway doesn't begin with 3NPS. I'm having to relearn fingering of scales which is a bit frustrating. I'm hoping that will clear up as I move along.
