PENN Tidal Beach Caster

PENN Tidal Beach Caster - 14 ft, two piece rod.

I bought a pair of these rods as they were from a reputable company with a good reputation. Of the two rods, one arrived with the first rod ring smashed and jangling around in the rod back! The seller was quick to resolve the issue and sent a replacement rod section. I put it down to bad luck and put the incident behind me.

During my first fishing trip I noticed the ceramic liner was missing from the tip ring! It was there when I set the rods up so it had failed during normal use! I was beginning to see a pattern forming! I replaced the tip ring, at my expense, with a quality Fuji ring.

I used the rods again on Sunday (02 December 2025) and during the course of the session I noticed that the liners of the top THREE rings on one of the rods was missing! Again, they failed during normal use! I packed the rod away to avoid any further damage.

These rods are of inferior quality and are being marketed under the Penn name - not a good look for Penn. Buy them at your peril! They WILL fail. Mine are being relegated to the dustbin and I will buy new rods of known quality and durability and definitely nothing with the PENN label on them!

Bought a Penn Squadron fishing rod

Bought a Penn Squadron fishing rod, used it twice and the ceramic on the fishing eye fell off during the boat trip. Called to sort out trying to get it fixed but was told it isn;t covered under warranty and that I have to pay. The lady insinuated that I must have caused it to break in transit but this simply is not the case. I believe the rod must have been faulty and that Penn should fix it under warranty
