Absolute garbage

Absolute garbage. Turn on 2 step authentication at your peril. If you change your password on your PC, your phone will block your account. When you then go to reset your password, you'll find yourself able to request a reset code via email, but when you select phone codes for the second authentication method, it'll tell you day after day it's not available right now. In short, it's utterly useless. All support options will be dead ends. Best advice - use another provider for primary emails.

You will miss important emails

For years, hotmail/outlook in general and in a browser has not received important emails, like receipts and order emails from stores and so on. In many cases I had to use my Gmail for those things. Microsoft blocks out so much important emails that I will never know have even reached me. This is why I unfortunately can't recommend their services as they are very flawed and even after 10+ years, believe or not, nothing has changed. Making business, entering a competition with this domain is so risky that it's not worth it. It's a shame, really.

Just pathetic, stay away from Outlook/Hotmail

It looks like Outlook was developed by an amateur in his basement. The platform lacks basic features, and the policies are beyond comprehension. The account gets suspended and disabled every now and then for no reason, and most of the verification methods are not available, making recovery tedious and time-wasting, with important data stuck in your mailbox.

How is Microsoft still a viable…

How is Microsoft still a viable company? Nothing MS produces is worth a damn and Outlook is a prime example. If it were any slower, I would think I had been transported back to the 90s and dial-up modems. There are times when I have to delete emails multiple times before they are removed from the inbox. No right-click and the list goes on and on and on.

Money sucking Microsoft

Firstly, unpaid free mail accounts do not get synced correctly after emails are deleted to make space. Deleted emails remain undeleted.
Next, despite a successful login with 2FA, it's impossible to add a contact number for the same purpose. No codes received on SMS, and after a few tries, it becomes impossible to add the contact number.
Bad service 👎 just because it's free. For the deletion part, the problem resolves only when the account is upgraded to a paid one.

Absolutely Horrifying Experience with Hotmail (Outlook) – Switched to Gmail for Good

After over a decade of using my Hotmail account, I’ve finally had enough. Trying to recover my email, one I’ve relied on for 10+ years has been an absolute nightmare. The support system is a complete joke: unhelpful, robotic, and painfully slow. I jumped through all their hoops, filled out every form, and still got nowhere. It felt like I was talking to a wall. What’s worse is that there’s zero empathy or urgency from their side. It’s as if long time users mean nothing to them. The lack of proper customer service and the sheer frustration of trying to regain access to MY OWN ACCOUNT pushed me over the edge. I've officially made the switch to Gmail, and honestly, I should’ve done it years ago. Google’s recovery process is smoother, support is responsive, and I actually feel like my digital life is in safer hands. Hotmail, you’ve lost a loyal user. Never again.

Outlook.com and its app are not fit for…

Outlook.com and its app are not fit for purpose. It does not allow BASIC functionality I would expect from an email system. It has bells and whistles but ignores the basics.

I cannot reply to all. This from an email sent by the secretary of the society I am a member of to 23 recipients. Why not, apparently I gave exceeded the daily allowance of 5,000 emails I can send - it was rhe only email of the day!

I cannot delete draft emails - there is no function for it - why not - it is basic housekeeping.

Like another reviewer I would give this a zero.

1-Star Review: Microsoft’s Account Recovery Is a Nightmare for Deployed Personnel

As a Canadian Armed Forces member currently deployed overseas, I expected Microsoft to offer at least a basic level of support and flexibility for users in unique circumstances. Instead, I’ve been met with bureaucratic indifference and a broken recovery system.

I am the rightful owner of two Outlook accounts. Due to my deployment in Latvia, I’ve temporarily suspended my Canadian phone plan, which means multi-factor authentication (MFA) via SMS is completely inaccessible. Despite explaining this and providing detailed proof of identity and recent account activity, Microsoft still denied my recovery request, claiming the information was “not sufficient.”

Let me be clear:

I submitted the recovery form with accurate, verifiable information.

I referenced recent sent emails from my phone (up to July 5, 2025).

I clearly stated my deployment status, which is easily verifiable.

Yet Microsoft’s response was a generic rejection, with no option for escalation, no human contact, and no empathy for someone serving their country abroad. This is not just poor customer service—it’s a failure of basic support infrastructure.

If you’re traveling, deployed, or temporarily without access to your primary phone number, expect to be locked out of your account indefinitely. Microsoft’s rigid system and lack of human oversight make recovery nearly impossible.

Do better, Microsoft. Your users deserve more than automated emails and dead-end forms.

Outlook... more Lookout!

O365 oh heck.. i don't know who thinks about all the changes but honestly i find outlook hard work especially on mobile, its buggy clunky and they keep moving things around. on mobile if you so much as look at an email its marked as read and you cant stop this. the desktop version is horrid and a search returns any result other than what you want, even if you are specific about the content or key word.. Dear MS it should be good, but sadly is a bag of spanners!

Works well but is linked with AI and data spying

I switched over a decade ago to use outlook as my main email when google changed a lot of their interface to be less user friendly. Hotmail was my first email account ever in the 1990's.

They have a simple to use interface, and security protocols and procedures that can keep your account secure. I highly recommend making two accounts, linking them, and using the one that is not you main login as the one you give to everyone. The ability to make additional emails using the plus subaddressing "+" feature is great for organizing you inbox as well.

Unfortunately, like many other big service companies today, microsoft/outlook is digging into your personal data by default and giving that access to their AI. If you don't want AI data-mining your personal correspondence (creating vulnerabilities while at it) consider a different service.
