They are awful. Been retired 6 months. Can't get a Medicare Advantage plan because OPM claims I'm still working. Their phone number, like everyone else says, hangs up automatically.
I mailed OPM form 2809 by mail to the address on their letterhead letting them know I was suspending FEHB plan(sponsored by blue cross/blue shield) in favor of Aetna Medicare Advantra Philly Prime(HMO... See more

So Frustrated!
I receive retirement disability benefits from OPM from becoming disabled while working for SSA.
I returned to work a year ago, and although I am not able to work full-time, I can work part-time and love being able to do so. Because of working my SSDI benefits have ended. I now need a recalculation of my OPM benefit amount. I have mailed in a letter stating this request along with a copy of the letter from Social Security showing my SSDI benefits have ceased, as instructed by a representative from the OPM call center. It took me three days just to get a live person at this number. It's been a couple of weeks and am now trying to simply see where in the process my case is. There is no updated information available on my account through the OPM website. When trying to call the call center I get a message stating they are receiving higher than usual phone traffic and to try again later. This would be acceptable if there was a REASONABLE amount of time for this to be the case. However, I am on day four of trying to get through to a person. I have spent hours calling at various times during the day as well as different days of the week. This is unacceptable! OPM clearly needs to hire more call center representatives. These are benefits I have already been awarded. I have moved across country and am currently not working so these benefits are my only source of income. The process to initially contact OPM until today should be easier to navigate than this. I am beyond frustrated.
I’ve being calling Opm for months now
I’ve being calling Opm for months now. I’ve separated from post office and will like a refund. The call is always terminated due to high call volume. This is unacceptable!
Accountability needed!
The department really deserves NO STARS! Absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. My father worked for the government his entire life. He now has dementia and can't manage his accounts, so I've taken over (daughter) his affairs. I've been trying to get help from this department for over a year. Besides the extremely long waits that never connect to an agent, nobody cares and no one will extend the smallest effort to help. My only successful connection to a human was via email. I use the term 'human" lightly, as the response was a stock standard brush off with links that put me right back into the circle of "disservice hell".
This is paid for with tax dollars, but instead of service, taxpayers are just getting screwed. And with no accountability, what is the incentive for them to provide a service? 0. Ironic since this is a government department meant to assist government employees.
The Office of Poor Management
The U.S. OPM is the most heartless branch of the federal government. I am a recently separated employee of the U.S. Postal Service. Back in August, I began the process of transferring my retirement account, which mind you is less than $10K, to an IRA account. I successfully filled out the 3106 and submitted it to the account holder of the IRA for their signature (which is required on the 3106) and then it was submitted to the OPM. I spoke with a representative of the company I set up the IRA with who confirmed the paperwork was delivered on 8/31, at 10:09am, to a front desk employee named Larry. After 4 months, the assets have still not been wired to the IRA. Now I myself work in financing and I am aware that there have many many delays recently due to COVID and the economy, but I have not even received confirmation that they have the paperwork. The account holder of the IRA told me that never heard back from them and multiple calls/emails have been ignored. I spoke to a representative at OPM, which took me weeks to get through, and they didn't know anything about me and the representative said they would follow up with someone higher up and then give me a call....that was weeks ago. Again, I get it. The world moves a little slower since Covid. But I am simply looking for someone at this organization to tell me they have my paperwork and an ETA on the asset transfer. Even if it is going to take them a few more months, ok I get it, that's fine, but to go 4 months and ignore my calls/emails and that of the IRA account holder, which is a very reputable company, is absurd.
I called in so I can get my refund…
I called in so I can get my refund status after separating from the post office, they said it's gonna take 4 months for me to receive my money, it was easy to take the money out my pay and now I have to wait months to get it back because of backlog am really annoyed, this is really upsetting, they need to find people to work to get people money in quicker.
Lack of Communication
Unable to get in touch via phone regarding status of application for retirement that was received dated March 29, 2022. It is now 5/31/22 and I have yet to get any further feedback. Attempts to call are met with "we are experiencing high calls, call back later" and call terminated. Seems like a member should have a means for communication 1:1. I have submitted an email, but the back and forth is typically time consuming.
Imagine this...I was in a military…
Imagine this...I was in a military uniform since I was 14 years old. I volunteered to work for free in an emergency room at Nellis AFB for 2 years among countless other things. I served on active duty in the Army for several years and was in Reserve status for the Navy. I put myself through college 3 times as a single parent and completed countless certificates.
I worked at the Pentagon on September 11th among so many other life altering events. I was pushed into an early retirement due to a Civil Service duty station from hell. I gave 24 years to this country (22 years on paper).
My total retirement, NOT monthly, annually, TOTAL retirement from FERS through OPM is $8,198.04 (eight-thousand, one-hundred, ninety-eight dollars and four cents).
A truly horrific ending for someone who gave everything...there was nothing more to give and I am a disabled veteran. Freedom isn't free.
Oh and it has been 5 months for OPM to process the $8k all during family tragedy. Heartless.
The money still has never come in.
Poor customer service
Poor customer service. Retitement claims personal do not respond to questions albeit telephonic or email. # OPM is a poor government agency.
According to FSA
According to FSA, OPM changed how we spend our points/dollars from the insurance companies. They used to send us a gift card for $75 for participating in at-home exams, etc. It could be used anywhere. Now they force us to use those dollars/points at the FSA store where high prices are the norm. so we're not even getting a fair price for our items. I live pay check to pay check. I'd rather spend the $$ on staples like food and gas. Get real people. who doesn't want to get the most for their buck. Makes GEHA very unappealing during open season.
