Purchasing this policy was extremely simple, and even getting my car's details updated when I added a personal plate was also very easy. The team at OneCarWarranty themselves were generally friendly and pleasant to deal with. However, this point is completely moot as I will explain below.

OneCarWarranty are only responsible for selling the policy to you. The policy is actually backed by a company called Defend Insurance - they are who you will deal with when making a claim, and this is where the experience falls apart completely. Just take a look at Defend Insurance's TrustPilot reviews for an indication of what you are letting yourself in for (spoiler: they currently have an average score of 2).

First, Defend Insurance claimed to have lost my details and policy information and told me that my OneCarWarranty policy did not exist on their system. This is despite me having policy documents and a reference number proving the opposite.

I went back and forth with their support staff for a few days before finally mentioning the three magic words "Financial Ombudsman Service", at which point they magically found my policy details and approved my claim shortly thereafter.

However, even after providing all of the documents they requested to pay out the claim (an invoice for the repairs from the garage, visuals of the failed components, and my bank details), after 15 working days there has been radio silence and no reimbursement payment has landed in my account.

Although OneCarWarranty are not responsible for the failings of Defend Insurance, for as long as they continue to resell policies backed by them there is absolutely no chance I would recommend this reseller.

Lesson learned: Whenever you are purchasing a policy from a reseller like OneCarWarranty, always do your due diligence of who will be backing the policy you are being sold, and vet that company as well.

Simple process to join. Proof will be in making a claim! Hopefully never needed. Ben was excellent in answering my questions. I couldn’t see a catch as these guys are considerably cheaper than other warranty providers for similar cover.
