Fundamentals: Beginner DJ Course is the flagship online programme from On Beat DJ School, designed to give beginner and self-taught DJs a clear, structured foundation in DJing across house, techno, garage, and more. Released in 2026, the course focuses on 13 essential DJ skills, covering both theory and practical application, with dedicated versions for laptop-based and standalone DJ set-ups. Every lesson is built from real teaching experience and is designed to guide students through the learning process in a clear, in-depth, and frustration-free way. On Beat DJ School was founded in 2017 by professional DJ and tutor Liam Ross, originally offering 1-to-1 DJ lessons in Liverpool, UK. Since then, the school has helped hundreds of students progress from complete beginners to confident DJs. Past students have gone on to play some of the biggest stages and brands in electronic music, including G33 (Girls Don’t Sync). One standout example is Ruby Richards, who joined On Beat as a complete beginner and, within 2.5 years, progressed to playing Creamfields Mainstage and performing DJ sets in Ibiza. On Beat DJ School prides itself on teaching key skills that stay true to the art of DJing. Everything taught is tried, tested, and proven on real dancefloors, with a strong emphasis on building confidence, developing your own style, and understanding music rather than relying on shortcuts.

So much fun!

Wow, Liam was absolutely amazing, taught me everything, got me really confident and ready to go and DJ at house parties and with friends. I had such an amazing time, he taught me so many skills. He even helped me buy equipment that was more suitable for me. It was actually cheaper and helped me with my goals. You know, I would come back in a heartbeat to, you know, sort of do more sessions with Liam again. It was just so much fun.

Liam brings out the best in our autism specialist school!

We are an autism specialist school in Southport and Liam came and ran a full day of DJ sessions for our students. Liam has been a regular at our school for a number of years now and is always met with excitement and enthusiasm!
All students were fully involved with using the DJ equipment and Liam’s intuitive and adaptive approach brought out the best in them all! Liam was able to engage our students across all needs and abilities and everyone had a fantastic day. We look forward to seeing Liam again in the future!

Liam is an absolutely amazing Dj tutor…

Liam is an absolutely amazing Dj tutor and has been teaching my son Max for around 18 months. Max is autistic and Liam has been so good with him adapting lessons to suit maxs low pressure way of learning. Max had no experience whatsoever just loves music and dj sets always helped regulate him if he was ever having meltdowns.

Maxs confidence has grew massively and hd now loves lots more types of music like D&B and garage aswell as house. He can now dj at a high level and do advanced techniques too.

Couldn’t recommend any more highly.

Liam is a class act

Liam is a class act. He holds a deep knowledge of DJing and Production but meets you at your level and to your own taste in music. He teaches in a way that explains the concept but then lets you personally develop it on your own terms.

My Experience with On Beat

Learning under the On Beat Course i honestly the best thing I’ve done, I was someone that has always dreamt of becoming a full time DJ, I knew how to do the basics but wasn’t confident enough to push myself out there for booking, after I done a couple of lessons with the Liam I can say my confidence went a lot higher where I have now started my own event
