The worst budget airlines on earth

The Worst Airline Experience — Avoid Oman Air

Tried Oman Air for the first and absolutely the last time. This airline is a disgrace to the otherwise warm and hospitable people of Oman.

Let’s start with customer service. Their call centre is a disaster — staff are uninformed, inconsistent, and seem to be reading off different manuals depending on who you speak to. Even basic queries about baby equipment were answered incorrectly multiple times.

At the airport, the ground staff were shockingly unprofessional. If they’ve had any training in customer service, it certainly doesn’t show. They could learn a thing or two from airlines like Emirates, but clearly have no desire to rise to that level. Frankly, the personnel they’ve hired feel like the last picks off the recruitment list.

When it comes to family travel, Oman Air is completely incompetent. They don’t understand or follow basic aviation policy around infant seating and bassinets. Men with no children or family were placed in the bassinet row, making it impossible to feed or care for my baby with dignity or comfort, especially on a so-called Muslim airline. No sensitivity, no foresight, no solutions offered.

The in-flight crew were no better. Meals were skipped, and rather than taking accountability, staff pointed fingers at one another. Some were visibly tired, others clearly disinterested. Professionalism and courtesy were entirely missing.

If you’re travelling with children, or you’re a breastfeeding mother, do not choose Oman Air. You will not feel supported, safe, or even acknowledged. There are budget airlines that deliver a more competent and compassionate service — even Air Asia outshines them by miles.

Save your money and your peace of mind. This airline is a joke.

No information on delay

Subject: Flight Delay, No Notification & Financial Prejudice – Request for Immediate Compensation
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the Muscat → jakarta flight (part of my itinerary BCN → FRA → MCT → CGK) on July 16 2025. Despite departing Muscat City center in time to arrive at Muscat Airport by midnight, I was only made aware—through my own observations and not via any communication from your side—that the flight was delayed by at least 4 hours (the panels on the airport still mention that the plane had to leave more than one hour ago). This delay is due to the fact that most of passengers come from a connecting flight from Djeddah, which departed at 0.15 (local muscat time) with a 3h50min delay and will land at 4.15am, 4hrs10mins late (+ the time for them to proceed their connection ).
1. Severe delay without any notification
Upon arriving at the airport (or even before leaving ti the airport since your company knows since the initial departure time of the Djeddah flight - ie 8.15 pm that our flight will be impacted) , there was no email, SMS, announcement, or staff communication informing me of the delay. All decent companies would have done so, especially others from the region I usually travel with, namely Emirates, Qatar, and eitihad. This complete lack of information forced me to wait unnecessarily overnight at the airport, when I could have stayed to the city and rested in comfort.
2. Missed onward connection and financial burden
My scheduled arrival in Jakarta at 1.20 pm left enough time to make a 5 pm onward connection with another carrier at the same terminal. Unfortunately, due to the HUGE delay, I will definitely miss this connection. This forces me 1) to purchase a new ticket for the next day, 2) lose my reserved night at my final destination , 3) purchase an additional night at jakarta airport—costs, loss of time and stress entirely resulting from your failure to inform and assist passengers.
3. Compensation and assistance requested
I therefore formally request:
Immediate compensation for the delay, missed connection, overnight stays, personal prejudice and additional expenses;
Rebooking on the next available flight to Padang with Garuda Airlines, part of Oneworld, at no extra cost to me;
Financial reimbursement for all related out-of-pocket expenses, plus compensation for the inconvenience, stress, and disruption.
I am prepared to provide all relevant documentation—boarding passes, tickets, receipts, and other proof of expenses. I expect a written response within 72 hours, detailing:
The steps you will take for reimbursement;
The amount and form of compensation you will provide.
Please treat this matter with urgency. If I do not receive a satisfactory response, I will proceed with formal complaints to regulatory authorities and seek my rights under applicable passenger protection regulations. I hope that your advertisement "elevate your journey with our renowned services" is not just a lie.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Yves Arrighi and Flora De Pasquale

Please don't book Oman Air.

In June I booked a flight on sale via their site and received my ticket. Two weeks later I received a refund on my credit card, but no cancellation from the airline. Unfortunately it is not possible to reach anybody on their service team.

Terrible airline Oman air which rebooked my flight without my knowledge and did not allow me to board original flight

I lodged a complaint I am very upset and frustrated at the way I was treated at the airport in Chennai India. My booking id for my travel via airline WY 254 and WY 611 was SHICGD
which I booked online. I was to supposed leave India today and I had a confirmed booking from Dubai to Canada. I remember that no communication or email was sent by me to anyone at OmanAir to cancel my ticket made for 7th May. Today when I was at Chennai Airport terminal 2 , the agent at the ticket counter for Oman air as well as the manager were quite helpless and said repeatedly that I cancelled and rebooked my ticket for 14th and 15th of May 2025 and I cannot travel today. I denied the information stating that I never made any such requests. Oman Air personnel and manager said that I cannot board the plane despite having printed iterinary and kept mentioning that I made the changes to my ticket on Mobile app on March 30 2025. They said my booking is no longer Valid. Your Omanair staff at airport also have also mentioned that the modifications were made in Mumbai through phone app. I was in Canada during that time. I came to India only on May 3rd. Moreover, I dont have a mobile app on any of my phones. This is a terrible accusations. It caused great discomfort and Financial loss.

I was never in India on March 30. Also I never cancelled or rebooked. The booking as claimed shows that my travel from Chennai to Muscat was on 14 and Oman to Dubai was on 15 May as claimed by your staff at Terminal 2 Chennai. Please issue compensation for all the loss and troubles undergone today. Also I cannot travel on May 14 and 15th 2025. please cancel any other tickets which shows on your booking system. I did not make any of the bookings. I have sent enough reminders and many emails requesting compensation and full refund and the airline never replies. This is totally not acceptable

I expect immediate action. Please escalate to highest level.

Thank you,

V L

Thieves and frauds!

Oman Airlines has cheated us all on the Frankfurt to Bangkok flight. Any airline would take responsibility for a flight incorrectly entered into the system by their employee. It is a disgrace that you did not take responsibility for this! And when we returned the money for the tickets we received 200zł less due to currency conversion, you should take responsibility for these costs. Thieves and frauds!

I booked cancelable ticket

I booked cancelable ticket, on cancellation multiple times I contacted them by email and telephoned them multiple times. They kept saying that they would refund my money but unfortunately still waiting. The refund should be processed within 24 hours. I may have to take them to ombudsman’s office and report to officials in the U.K.

Oman Air cancelled my tickets

Oman Air cancelled my return tickets by mistake. For 3 weeks now they’ve been giving me the runaround — one day they say I’ll get a refund, the next day no, then they say I can still use my tickets… but they already cancelled them! Reactivate my tickets or refund me!!!”

Safety Issues, Inadequate Communication, and Passenger Rights Violations on Oman Air Flights

I recently experienced one of the most traumatic flights of my life on Oman Air flight WY818 from Bangkok to Muscat, with a connection to Istanbul (flight WY165), scheduled for June 10, 2025.

Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft suffered an engine failure and made an emergency landing in Hyderabad, India. What followed was chaos, panic, and a complete failure in crisis management by the airline.

What Went Wrong:
The cabin crew panicked visibly, interrupted safety announcements, and some were crying, escalating fear among passengers.

We spent 20–30 minutes fearing for our lives in total silence, with no clear instructions or support.

After the emergency landing, we were kept inside the aircraft for nearly an hour with no explanation.

We were denied water, food, or internet access at the airport for hours.

Security screening was invasive; personal belongings like electronic cigarettes were confiscated and destroyed with no documentation.

There was no proper communication. We were repeatedly told “updates in 15 minutes” — for hours.

Despite clearly stating we did not want to board the same aircraft again, we were given no alternatives and pressured into flying the same plane.

A suspicious incident was observed where a passenger received duty-free items after a whispered exchange with staff — raising concerns of bribery or favoritism.

Outcome:
We arrived in Istanbul 24 hours late after an overnight stay in Muscat.

We suffered psychological trauma, loss of workdays, and distress that still lingers.

My Expectations:
Financial and emotional compensation for this horrific experience.

A detailed technical explanation of the engine failure and the aircraft’s prior service record.

An apology and formal accountability from Oman Air for how passengers were treated.

I also urge international aviation authorities to review Oman Air’s safety and communication protocols.

This was more than a delay — it was a clear violation of passenger rights and human dignity. No one should be forced to endure such neglect and fear on a commercial flight.

Absolutely Unacceptable Service – Booking Cancelled Without Notice, Zero Support

To whom it may concern,

This is without a doubt the worst customer experience I have encountered in over 20 years of booking travel. I booked flights for my entire family and, based on your confirmation, proceeded to organize an extensive travel programme in Thailand, including accommodation, excursions, and a parking reservation — all of which are now at risk due to your utter incompetence and complete lack of communication.

1.5 weeks after the booking, the only indication that something was wrong came not from you, but from a banking app notification that the flight payment was being refunded. No email. No call. No explanation. Nothing. Just silent cancellation and total disregard for your customer.

From that moment, I’ve experienced what can only be described as a customer service black hole:
• Phone numbers for the UK, Germany, and Oman – none of them work.
• Five emails sent to different addresses – zero replies.
• No response on Facebook Messenger, either.

The result? I now have a full programme in Thailand booked and paid for, with no flight to get us there, thanks to your complete and utter failure to communicate or assist in any way.

This is not just unprofessional — it is negligent. You have caused serious disruption, financial loss, and stress for a trip that was planned with great care.

WARNING! Oman air very unreliable!!

Same as many others we booked a flight from Frankfurt to Bangkok on July 16. We made the booking on June 4. The booking was confirmed. On June 12 the booking was cancelled by Oman air due to a pricing error. The flight is NOT cancelled, just the booking!!
Now I’m reading reviews that bookings all ready have been cancelled on June 8. If we knew it then, it would have saved us costs for connecting flights and accommodations.
The refund of our paid and confirmed tickets is not on our bank account and we did not receive a €50 voucher (not that that would help). This is very unjustified and we feel we are scammed.
Oman Air is NOT a trustworthy company!

cancelled booking

On June 4th, I booked and paid for a confirmed FRA–BKK flight (late August) via your official website.

Based on that, I also bought a connecting flight to Frankfurt and booked hotels.

On June 8th, you cancelled the ticket, calling it a “fare error.”
Now the same flight costs twice as much, and I’m left with financial loss.

A €50 voucher is not a solution — it’s an insult.

This is not how you treat loyal customers. Please reconsider and offer a fair resolution.

One-sided flight ticket cancellation

Like many others, our flight tickets [Frankfurt - Bangkok] were also cancelled, allegedly due to system error they said and offered us only €50 voucher. We already sent our objection against this, but no response.

We booked the tickets on 05.06 and they cancelled it on 08.06. I would like to know if somebody else got the cancellation on 08.06 or earlier/later? If the latter the case is, they may lie to us that they already fixed the error. Does someone know what legal process we could initiate?

Scammers

Scammers! Once again they are cancelling flights and claiming it was a temporary mistake on the website! There are many affected people from different countries. Remember, anyone can file a civil lawsuit in their own country and submit complaints to consumer protection authorities such as ECC-Net. This is no longer just about the ticket cost – it’s about the unfair practices of this airline!
