Absolutely Amazing

This summer we purchased a king-size Obasan deluxe mattress with the base, and wool and latex pillows and it has been absolutely amazing. I’ve had back aches for years and only now realise they were largely due to poor bed quality. Since switching to this mattress, the difference has been incredible — I’m sleeping better and waking up pain-free.

I also love the peace of mind that comes from knowing I’m sleeping on a high-quality, toxin-free bed made with natural materials.

Darlie was an outstanding salesperson to work with: knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely helpful throughout the process. I would highly recommend both Obasan as a company and Darlie specifically. A truly excellent experience from start to finish.

Obasan products are the most luxurious, quality, toxin free, comfortable and beautiful. I have several items including the mattress and I have never slept better! We also have multiple pillows, pregnancy pillow, sheets and duvet. Truly blissful, and so grateful they use such natural organic and quality products. Above this the customer service we had with Darlie was phenomenal, he was attentive, quick to respond and met with us virtually to show us and explain everything. I highly 10++++\10 recommend! Love at first sleep on our Obasan mattress

My husband and I recently purchased our 2nd classic mattress from Obasan for our granny suite in Quebec. Two years previously we had replaced our old latex mattress for Obasan's individualized, organic and ethically sourced mattress and have had the best sleep of our lives.
As I said, it was love at first sleep!

From our initial consult with Darlie John to our first sleep, everything went smoothly.
It is such a pleasure to engage with this company as their custom service follow up and on going connection created a feeling of care, concern and community.

We research and support companies that work ethically to source their materials, this is as important to us as the quality of the end product. Out of a 5 star grade, Obasan would get 10 stars for their commitment to supporting the Earth environment and the countries where they source their raw ingredients.

Besides the mattress, we also purchased 2 of their wool comforters (Summer and Winter) as well as the wool/latex pillows. We have tried dozens of pillows over the past years and these are by far the most comfortable and supportive pillows we have used.
The extra bag of latex they provide allows you to customize your pillow to perfection.
The comforters are lovely and light and give ample warmth for each season.

There is a beautiful calm that is created from the organic, natural materials that are used and the energetics of every product being hand made. So understandably the price point may be higher than other mattresses, but we spend at least 1/3 of our life sleeping, so probably one of the best investments one could make for without good quality sleep, there is no good quality life. And here I speak from my 45 years of experience as a Naturopath, working with thousands of people with their health care concerns.

Obasan’s products are outstanding! I had severe back and hip pains for 20 years during which we changed our mattress 3 times without any difference at all, until we purchased one of Obasan’s custom organic mattresses! My husband and I also always woke up congested, but those days are long gone ever since we also purchased their rubber and wool pillows. I know I sound like a paid advertisement but we are in no way affiliated to any members of the Obasan entreprise! Their products are truly remarkable, comfortable and HEALTHY!! And the service is absolutely impeccable! Darlie was exceptionally good at meeting our requirements and with our 1001 questions, he demonstrated the patience of an angel! The delivery was also very quick, and the delivery men were super clean and courteous!
You will rarely find such a jewel of a company.

The whole experience -- from booking an appointment to visiting the showroom to talking to the incredibly knowledgeable sleep specialist (Darlie) to the timely, friendly delivery (Preet and Pavan) and finally, night after night of wonderful, restful, rejuvenating sleep --- has all been above and beyond our highest expectations. I cannot recommend Obasan enough. The service was exemplary, the advice spot on and the product is simply perfect to our needs. As a person that has serious chemical sensitivities, Obasan offered and delivered a product that from day one, I could have my face pressed up against for 8 hours a night and experience no allergies, no breathing issues, etc.. This summer my husband and I bought Obasan Deluxe mattress, pillows and duvet. Our experience has been amazing with everything, from start to finish! This organic sleep system has been recommended to us by our naturopathic doctor. As soon as I contacted Obasan by email, I got a response from Mr. Darlie-John Almuete, and we quickly made a zoom appointment. He was very kind, professional and attended to every detail I could possibly ask, throughout our entire shopping experience. We love our new mattress, pillows and duvet! The deluxe model is individually adjusted for my husband and me separately. Even our pillows are adjusted to our needs and sleep patterns. Its the first pillow that I've had that is actually very comfortable all the time! The duvet is light, it was cool enough in the summer and and warm enough so far into November; it hugs the body beautifully without the heavy weight. The delivery of everything was smooth, and the installation service was well-worth it. Mr. Almuete communicated with me throughout the process, was always available to answer any questions. The price point is well-worth it, especially if one considers we spend a third of our lives in bed. I very much recommend Obasan sleep system and accessories!

We bought our Obasan mattress approx. 5-6 years ago when we were searching for natural, non toxic sleeping materials. We did have some concerns with the mattress over time, however Obasan/Halsa has been excellent with addressing concerns and making things right. I cannot say enough about their customer service-it is outstanding. If you are looking for a natural mattress and restful sleeps, I would recommend Obasan.

We got our first Obasan mattress 8 years ago and have never looked back! Both our two children had Obasan crib mattresses and now in big beds. We again went with Obasan and they sleep so well!!! It really does make a difference. Unfortunately we just had a flood and our old bed in the basement was wrecked. We replaced it with a new Obasan bed. We moved our 8 year old bed downstairs and kept the new one upstairs! It's been upgraded with a pillow top topper. I could not think this bed could get any better but Wow!!! I hope they have Obasan beds in heaven!!!!

We got an Obasan mattress for our newborn daughter, and we have no regrets! She loves her mattress and has been sleeping great on it. The quality is outstanding, and we love that it’s a high-quality, family-owned business. We’ll definitely be repurchasing for our king-size bed soon

We recently bought two crib mattresses from Obasan for our twins, and they didn’t disappoint. The materials are top quality, and the customer service was even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for safe, comfortable, and well-made crib mattresses!

We recently purchased from Obasan their king size deluxe mattress and topper. Most comfortable mattress ever! Even while I wait for my hip replacement it keeps my hip well supported and comfortable all night thanks to the adjustable components in the mattress. Feels like I am floating and back to normal though I can barely walk. The other bonus is how quiet the mattress stays when my spouse moves no matter how often. Obasan mattresses last for 20 years so when you spread the cost over this period the daily investment you are making in your mattress is substantially lower.

What drew me to Obasan in the first place is their all natural latex mattress. I have search widely and it is one of the few companies which only uses natural latex in their mattresses. While other companies boast the same they often also use other materials in their mattresses that are not natural. All the Obasan bed accessories whether pillows, comforters, bed frames and headboards only use components that are 100% organic. So when you are sleeping rest assured that you are not breathing any fumes or solvents commonly found in other beds.

While mattresses are amazing at Obasan so is their service thanks to Darlie John’s personalized attention. He is one of the kindest and most attentive sale representative. He is extremely knowledgeable and listens attentively to your needs and questions armed with all the patience in the world. And the after sale service is just as excellent even years later! My wife and I visited the Obasan store in November and had a consultation with Darlie where we were able to test out the recommended configuration for a deluxe mattress including the customization for both my wife and I. Darlie was attentive to our needs and helped us design a dream sleep system that will last us many years.

We ended up ordering the deluxe mattress, shredded latex pillows, cotton protector, wool comforter, cotton duvet cover and sheets). We have now been enjoying this setup for 3 months and after a brief adjustment period, have been sleeping better and waking up more refreshed and without joint pain as previously experienced. The firmness of a latex mattress is balanced with the wool topper.

Highly recommend Obasan and love that it is a 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 company! We are now buying a baby crib mattress.

We replaced our old mattresses with an obasan set because we wanted a good, organic, non toxic mattress set. Worst back pain ever. We went through a local small business and had it all set up using the softest option available.
Horrid, painful, detest them. We ended up buying a 4" thick memory foam topper plus wool topper just so we could sleep somewhat comfortably.
Would not recommend to anyone ever and regret spending so much on them.

Like other reviewers with 1- and 2-star reviews, I experienced significant pain from sleeping on this mattress. The spring mattress I had previously was comfortable for me, but I wanted to upgrade the size of my mattress and thought it would be a good choice to get an organic mattress. On November 17, 2023, I had a virtual consult with Darlie John at Obasan who provided me with a recommended configuration for an Obasan mattress. The consult lasted about 45 minutes and we talked about all my needs for the mattress. I ultimately decided to purchase a mattress with the configuration Darlie John recommended. I ordered it from a local business to support that business and so that I could get the service of setting it up in my home (I also ordered an Obasan foundation and headboard to ensure I had the proper setup).

After the products were delivered in January 2024, I woke up with mid-back pain every day. Depending on how long I slept, I also had neck pain, shoulder pain, and stiffness/discomfort in my hip (the longer I slept, the more pain I had). I started intentionally sleeping as little as possible so I could avoid the worsening pain. I contacted Darlie John to let him know about my comfort issues. His reply stated that “it’s important to respect the established processes and procedures set for each of our retailers” and that I could contact my local store to at my convenience “to initiate the redesign process and to address the below mentioned discomforts”. I replied saying I would do so, and never received any other communication from Obasan.

The local store suggested a reconfiguration. I tried it for 2.5 nights (non-consecutive, as the pain was so bad after each night). I awoke with a band of pain across my mid-upper back that got tighter throughout the day, resulting in me feeling hunched over and having restricted mobility in my upper body due to the pain. I tried multiple suggestions from the store, but I couldn’t continue with any of them beyond a few days due to the degree of impact to my functioning the following day.

Since I could only sleep 3-4 hours on the Obasan mattress, I alternated with sleeping some nights in my son's bed or on my couch, both of which left me pain-free the next day. My son's bed is a Sleeptek, which I understand is a former branding of Obasan. His bed is configured as follows, from top to bottom: 2" soft, 4" medium, 2" firm. I tried to replicate the firmness of his mattress with guidance from the local store. I only slept on it for 7 nights because I could hardly get out of bed in the morning due to stiffness. Many nights I woke up and could not return to sleep unless I went to my son’s bed or my couch.

I was unable to continue using my Obasan mattress because the whole right side of my back became full of knots and I was preoccupied by my pain almost every moment that I was awake (which was nearly all the time because I was unable to fall/stay asleep on the mattress). I could not continue to work, parent, other otherwise function in this state. I now have another brand of mattress that is comfortable for me.

It was a difficult and frustrating experience that impacted my health significantly due to the pain and sleepless nights and took significant time away from things I enjoy doing. Having spent thousands of dollars (it was a king size Deluxe model) and being in the worst physical state I’ve experienced, I then needed to ultimately purchase another mattress and spend time and money on chiropractic and massage appointments to return to my former state of health.

For additional context, I am 5'4, 115 lbs, physically active, in my 40s.

The grand topper has made my sleep the best it has ever been. I travel a lot and stay at many of the top hotel properties from Four Season, Ritz Carlton ect. and my bed tops them all. Customer service is tip top and Darlie and crew are super reponsive. I will definitly purchase from Obasan again!

We’ve been sleeping long enough now on our Obasan mattress that I can leave a review. It’s wonderful. There is a reason these mattresses are used at the most luxurious hotels, like the Fogo Island Inn.

1. A financially conscious decision: This is the last mattress you will ever buy, so the cost comes out to far, far less than you would pay to keep replacing yours every 5-7 years (our last, very high end Serta which had a similar cost, lasted only 7 years). It is a component mattress. This means that inside the zip up mattress encasement are latex squares. When, for instance, the square at your hips begins to sag in about 10 years or so, you simply move one or both at your feet into that spot. When you need replacements, you only buy the replacement component at $250, not the whole bed.

2. An environmentally conscious decision: It’s made of organic cotton, wool, and latex. The wool is from Canadian sheep. There is no off-gassing. The feel is magnificent. Because of the component replacements, you are not creating more mattress waste every 5-7 years. The impact is less on you and the environment.

3. A comfort conscious decision: You set the components to your particular needs. I like a softer bed and am a side sleeper, so I have a soft component where my shoulders are and medium at the hips. If you want it even softer--while getting the proper support-- you can get a softer base layer on one side. My partner is a side sleeper, too, but likes a bed that is very firm. He has a medium at his shoulders and firm at his hips with a firm base. Then you can get a luxurious 2 or 4 inch latex and wool topper. Another benefit, because of the separate components and the way latex works, you do not wake as your partner moves during the night.

4. A customer care conscious decision: When you are interested, if you are not near a store, you do a zoom call and they walk you through everything. No hurry. When you take delivery, a team comes to the house with the bed and builds it for you and shows you how to turn over the components (the topper is turned every month. The components are turned every 6 months. They are lovely people and take their time with you. Afterwards, if you have any problems they will work with you until you are satisfied.

4a. It’s a small Canadian business that treats its employees well. They do have showrooms on the north east-coast of the US in all the big cities, but its main locations are here. I’m always here for small businesses making quality pieces that do not have to be thrown out.

In sum, this is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. The company is entirely reliable. I put it right up there with buying our Prius. Except the luxury. This is more like the Volvo of beds. If you need a new bed, you won’t come complaining to me if you buy it.

This was our third purchase with Obasan and our largest investment. We had purchased mattresses for our two girls starting at their toddler years. These mattresses are still incredibly comfortable! This year, we invested in a California King mattress with cover and pillows. WOW!! My husband and I were having sleep disturbances which have now been mitigated thanks to Obasan's quality material, fabrication and customized service. We highly recommend this investment. It makes such a difference in quality of life.

Very good quality. I love that it has some weight to it (as much as needed). Organic, natural fabrics/ filling. Can be used with any pillow and this is amazing for people like me who love their regular pillow. Easy to flip from one side to another over the night.
I did a lot of research before ordering as I was looking for something made from quality materials and I am very happy that I purchased this pregnancy pillow.
