Hotel room door did not lock
I booked a three-night stay at Numa Brussels Lief in September 2025. Upon arrival, I discovered the electronic, keyless entry system to my room did not function. Specifically, the room door did not lock from the outside after being closed, making unauthorized entry possible at any time.
The property operates without an on-site reception, so I contacted Numa Group’s central customer support in Berlin multiple times. Several remote reset attempts were made to fix the door lock, but these efforts were unsuccessful and the defect persisted. I ended up missing a business dinner that night because I could not leave my hotel room unlocked and unsafe. I documented the malfunction with video evidence. To my knowledge, Numa has not disputed that the door lock was defective.
Because I was traveling alone, it was unreasonable and unsafe for me to remain in a room that could not be securely locked. A functioning door lock is a fundamental requirement for the habitability and proper use of hotel accommodation. Due to this serious defect, I was forced to leave the property and secure alternative accommodation at my own expense for the same period.
I informed Numa of the security defect and requested a refund. However, a full refund was refused, and I was instead referred to third-party booking channels, despite the fact that the defect existed at the time the accommodation was provided and could not be remedied. To date, there has been no refund whatsoever from Numa for a hotel room that was unsafe and unusable.
Booked with Agoda
Booked with Agoda. Very difficult process. Didn't know they have on line check in. Took quite a bit of time. Agoda masks all communication so I was unable to get any link and could not get the 2FA linked code either. The only last resort was to call Numa in Germany. I also do not want to share my personal details with Numa and have them track me electronically. I worry about data privacy and if they will sell my infomation.
Disaster
Up until the day our our arrival we received several confirmations via whatsapp and email that our trip was all ready to go, we checked-in online, and the morning of the trip we received an email with check-in details/access information - we even spoke with the bot on whatsapp asking about earlier check-in as we had arrived earlier by plane. This was at about 10-11am. We ended up dropping our belongings off the lockers and going about our day until check-in at 3pm. At this time, we tried to check in with our PIN but it was not working on the door, turns out - Numa had double booked and there was another family in there - despite the several confirmations we had received that morning.
After speaking with the family that were in the apartment we should have been in, we discovered that they had received an email in my name (to their email address) saying that our stay had been cancelled - on the day of arrive at 9am. Shocking.
We got onto the phone with customer services and they moved us from Numa Flute to Numa Sonate. So we had a place to stay. The location of Sonate was good and the team sorted it out quickly however the cooking facilities did not work when we got there so we could not cook and had to spend lots on meals out (which was very expensive) and the layout was horrendous (we were in room 301), there is absolutely no privacy - your kitchen and bathroom are on the stairs which is very odd. There was also lots of dusts and did not seem like the place was well cleaned, balls of dust and debris floating on the floor. We did not like the layout of Sonate. Told we would receive a refund of compensation to make up for not being able to cook and the costs this caused up but we were lied to. Would not recommend Numa.
Cancelled our booking less than 1 hour before our plane departed
We contacted them the morning of our travel and only after this did we get told that the accommodation we booked was not available to us. They offered an alternative space which was tiny compared to what we booked. They offered a 15% refund which was completely unacceptable. We were travelling with a small child and to be told less than 1 hour before we departed the airport that our accommodation was not available and only after we initiated the contact is absolutely shocking. I would not recommend this company nor would I ever use them again.
Thieves
They can't even refund a little bit of money if you cancel a few days in advance... disgraceful.
Data leak at Numa?
Not great. either Numa has a data leak or the customer services does not know what to answer. i get spammed by mails from a 3rd party asking for credit card details who reference an existing booking (incl. place + dates) but are not coming from Numa according to Numa's customer service team.
NUMA Oosterpark Rm 11 - BEWARE!!
We were allocated Room 11 at this property. Found that this room was on the 4th floor. No elevator but the steepest staircase I’ve ever seen. Spiral in design similar to a bell tower. Carrying two large suitcases to the room was an interesting exercise considering my wife and I are retirees. The room was in the loft, very small and to get to the bed that was on a small mezzanine floor there were very small steps to navigate. A nightmare coming down half asleep during the night for ablutions and very dangerous. The property description mentioned none of these details, wonder why? Numa has no rental application process to ensure their properties suit their prospective tenants. Care factor of zero obviously.
Have to fight for a simple refund for "refundable booking" - nightmare
Cancelled a "flexible reservation" well within the window and was told refund on the way. Waited the 7-10 business days and nothing so I reached out. They then inform me the refund "failed" due to a system error on their end. I finally got more information since I found this very odd paying with a credit card. They changed payment systems this summer and could not process the refund to the original form of payment (Visa credit card) so they are now asking for bank details to make a transfer. I am charged a fee for incoming wire transfers from my bank so I suggested they please try the cc method again. After weeks and weeks and hours spent every week on this while receiving no reply. After almost a month, with the charge coming close to due on my credit card, I reach someone after sending an email every day. They say they try again with the cc method and I wait again. Nothing. This repeated for over a month until I threatened to have the charge disputed on my card for fraud of services not provided. Then magically they were able to send the refund back to the original card. Beware.
This company is a scam and a nightmare…
This company is a scam and a nightmare of tourism industry. The only person they employ is a cleaning lady and some young guys as a mobile reception. There is not customer service. You have a problem you speak to AI which loops without providing an answer, and eventually stops responding. They lie about breakfasts, which are also outsourced to some random bars. The rooms look like nothing on the pictures.
Refused refund after failed stay — lost a loyal customer
When something went wrong with my stay, Numa stopped responding until I told them I was leaving and would file a dispute. They admitted they couldn’t resolve the issue that night, yet still refused to provide a full refund.
As a returning customer, I find this very short-sighted. Instead of doing the right thing and refunding when they failed to deliver, they’ve lost thousands of euros of my future business.

Terrible experience all around.
Gave us the wrong room without letting us know. Then called it an upgrade. Even tho the room was a downgrade.
Then came into our room without permission! Moved our things and dirtied our laundry and baby clothes.
No one is available to talk to. Line breaks when you call.

You cannot take a date inside your room
You cannot take a date inside your room! So you ruin young peoples vacation! Hello, we pay the overpriced rooms so we at least gonna have some fun while renting it!!
According to their 24/7 surveillance and police state policy (numastay founded in berlin= stasi germany greets you coldly):
You are not allowed to take ANYONE no matter who into your room.
So if you have the cutest date in town, NUMA will PUNISH YOU having a desaster date ending. Saying oh no im staying with this german stasi company - they wont allow anyone in their building unless announced with their id card.
I dont think this is fully legal to control the guests at this level, as they praise themself as a digital hotel. And this is nowhere mentioned while booking.
