Very pushy
Very pushy. I got several quotes from a comparison site which unfortunately passes your details on to a range of companies. This one in particular harassed me for weeks despite having instructed another. I had to block their number to get them to stop calling me.
Even worse the buyer of my property instructed them. They turned up before 9am without having told me when to expect them (I was told they would call first to arrange a time). The surveyor that came to do a survey simply waved his little damp meter all over the house (on a rainy day after it had rained for over a week straight) and bluntly commented that my house is damp on his way out. They have also reported the same to the buyer but apparently haven't advised them any further. I've lived in this house for a long time and I can tell you we have no damp issue. It is a period property; such can be susceptible to damp and require management i.e. ventilation, a dehumidifier. As the owner of this type of property I know this and I manage it to ensure such does not become a problem. A simple google search will tell you the information. We have nothing penetrating and the house is still standing 150 years after it was built. If you are going to be advising on properties you need to know about different types of buildings and advise appropriately, not generally based on readings which frankly any builder will tell you are a waste of time and simply exist so the surveyor no longer has to actually inspect and use their knowledge. I found it to be extremely unprofessional.
Another quick search of the RICS guidelines also notes that a common referral scheme for surveyors (which provides an incentive) is to damp-proof specialists.

We want to reassure you that we do not cold call; any contact made is in response to an enquiry submitted via such platforms and is limited to a defined period. We do also have automated emails as part of our system, so we apologise if these continued after you had already made alternative arrangements. We have a great team in the office who are professional and really keen to support any potential client that calls, our trustpilot reviews do reflect that.
In relation to the survey, appointments are always arranged via either through the selling agent or directly with the vendor. We would not attend a property without prior booking confirmation, and we are sorry if there was any miscommunication regarding the timing of the visit on this occasion.
Our surveyors are qualified RICS professionals with extensive experience in assessing all types of properties, including period homes. A damp meter is one of several tools used during an inspection and is not relied upon in isolation. Observations are made in line with industry guidance, taking into account the age, construction and condition of the property at the time of inspection, including recent weather conditions.
For clarity, we do not operate on a commission basis nor do we receive incentives for referring clients to damp-proofing specialists or any other contractors. Any recommendations made are solely intended to highlight potential areas for further investigation and are provided in the best interests of the client.
We are sorry that your experience did not meet expectations and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further if you wish to contact us directly.

We are in the process of purchasing our first home and used Novello for a Level 3 Building Survey Pro. From the start, Raymond has been excellent. As first time buyers, we were unfamiliar with the process and Raymond was very responsive and thorough in answering all of our questions ahead of proceeding with the survey. He also accommodated our timeline without any issues, booking the survey in exactly the week we needed. We are yet to receive our full findings, but based on the experience so far we would not hesitate to recommend Novello.
