Very poor experience with Northumberland Stays – would not recommend.
We booked a property through booking.com, managed by this provider and arrived to find it in an unacceptable condition. The accommodation appeared to have not been cleaned: beds were unmade and we had to make them ourselves using what appeared to be stained bedding, and dirty laundry had been left, including in the bathroom which made the bath unusable.
The hot tub, which was a key feature of the booking, was appeared to be green and smelt, therefore not usable. The host indicated it had not been used for some time which raised questions about when maintenance was last completed. There was also an old, scruffy hot tub lid left in the garden. The outdoor furniture did not match the photos advertised and appeared to be uncomfortable. It was also not made clear that the neighbouring property has access to the garden.
When we raised these issues, we were told to go to Morrisons to purchase our own bedding, which is completely unacceptable for paid accommodation. The questionable bedding was then delivered. Following this, communication was extremely poor. The host was initially unhelpful and then became entirely unresponsive, ignoring multiple reasonable requests for a refund made on the first night of our stay.
Due to the condition of the property, we were only able to stay approximately 18 hours before leaving early. We had booked two nights and politely requested a refund for second night before we left. This led to sporadic contact from Northumberland Stays and a WhatsApp from someone claiming to be associated with the property.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. The property was not as described, not fit for purpose, and the lack of accountability or communication from Northumberland Stays only made matters worse.
